Hotel Royal staff is fantastic, both helpful and friendly and is frankly the best part of the establishment. There are other good amenities: on-site valet parking, free public transport ticket provided by the front desk staff, ability to wash up after a day in the city if you are returning after your check out.
The hotel bar was going through some sort of renovation this august, so that does not help the overall ambiance but is understandable.
What I was not thrilled about: tiny rooms cooped up as they face the train lines, not the best part of town, a bit seedy for my taste, the neighborhood has lots of ethnic restaurants and such and as I came to see Geneva, I wanted to see Swiss Geneva.
For those that are looking to be near a train station and walking distance to most things even the old town, a quick 10 min tram ride saves you time, and I consider it a convenient option.

Very close to the lake on a main road, but no road noise. Lovely big room with a balcony which I used. Good shower as well.

+ Very well located hotel. Amazing staff, that was very friendly and helpful. Discount at local beach club was really a nice feature.
- Some items in the room/bathroom weren’t up for a 4 star hotel. (Needed to be fixed or uprgaded)
