After a very long drive, we decided to see what Grants, New Mexico had to offer in the way of lodging! What a wonderful surprise. Our room was wonderful. Very clean room! Wonderful amenities. Very helpful staff. I would stay here again. Great breakfast buffett!
We checked into our handicapped accessible room mid-afternoon and were told at check-in that the direct-tv access was intermittent in the hotel. The room was clean and nice, and the staff was kind and attentive, but it ended up being a lonnnnnnng evening with no access to the tv and intermittent access to wifi. My husband talked directly with direct-tv and they said there were no outages in the area. When we told the desk, they back peddled and said that it was a problem with the local company. We were offered another room, not handicapped accessible, but couldn't move because of the non-accessible bathroom. I finally pulled the sim card on the box and the tv worked for about 20 minutes. The rest of our stay it didn't work at all. We were told by the staff that this is a recurring problem. We should have been told upon making our reservation about the problem. We would have chosen another hotel. Although the staff was nice and friendly, they didn't seem to care that we were stressed with our situation. Also, they didn't offer a discount for our room that didn't deliver all that it said on the reservation site when we booked our room.
If you happen to be in Grants, this is probably the best hotel to stay at. It's a clean, modern, and has a nice swimming pool and hot tub. But be sure to get up in time for any free Refreshments they have in the morning. Because there is literally no where in Grants to even get a cup of coffee.
Go to this Hotel quite late and had not pre-booked. The man at reception called "Ash" was extremely polite and sorted a room out for me, it looks like I had stay before as he had my old address on file. There is no room service just a vending machine so you are limited on food if you are hungry. The lounge area was really tatty and poor quality with most of the lounge couches and seat torn and frayed. The carpets were stained and dirty, not what you would expect from the Holiday Inn. I had problems trying to sort out the air conditioning in my room, but apart from this is was an OK stay. The place is in desperate need of refurbishment and the seating area in the lounge is both dated and dirty.
Like every Holiday Inn Express Hotel I have stayed in this one is very nice. The room was very clean and looked new. The breakfast was very good. The odd thing about this room was that the "blackout" curtains are fixed open. They have to be because they reach the floor and if closed they would cover the heater/AC unit. see photo. The remaining sheer curtain allows too much light to enter the room. In back of this Holiday Inn is a carwash with very bright lights that stay on all night. In addition the back faces East for the morning sunrise so even more light comes in. I kept waking up during the first night. The next night I used the clips on a hanger to close the curtains. see photo. I slept much better. This is a nice hotel, just avoid the side facing the bright lights of the carwash.
The rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff was very helpful. Nice large breakfast area which was well stocked. I would definitely stay here again when I’m passing through. Good room to park Out truck and trailer too.
The hotel was clean and quiet but as others have mentioned they don’t seem to focus on the little items. We came down for breakfast at 8:00 the coffee was cold they were out of fruit, yogurt, napkins and omelets. We had to keep logging back into the internet and 3 times we had toget a new key. We were not keeping it by our phone. These are a few of a number of disappointments. The kind of things that you expect.
We have stayed several times at this property as we travel from AZ to the Midwest and return. The reason we stay here instead of Albuquerque is that it is a few miles closer to home and makes an easy drive on the final day of our trip. I made a reservation for the end of September and while reviewing all my reservations for our upcoming trip I noticed that this property was showing a 7% service added to my daily rate. The 7% is in addition to a tax rate of 13.13% so that adds up to taxes and fees in excess of 20%! I think that is excessive anywhere but especially in Grants, NM. Will someone from the hotel tell me what the 7% service charge is for? Their website says the hotel offers free wi-fi and free parking. I cancelled my reservation and we will now stay in Albuquerque even though it will be a bit of a longer drive home on the final day.
Good property right off I-40 and close to Route 66. Typical quality of a Holiday Inn Express. For train buffs, book a room on the backside of the hotel on the top floor - you have a great view of the BNSF main line - a train about every 20 minutes. Even spotted Amtrak's Southwest Chief. Don't fear, it's far enough away you can't hear them. Rooms at the south end of the building are next to a street that leads directly to Walmart. Amazing how many semis stop at Walmart.
All is there what you'd expect from a Holiday Inn Express. Extra Kudos to reception staff who are super friendly. What I really don't understand however, is that housekeeping knocking the door loudly at 8.30am. When I opened the door I asked why they are doing this that early in the morning already. The lady just walked away without saying anything. When I returned to my room after breakfast, room key was already not working anymore. They really want to have you out as fast as possible in the morning...
