The Reach, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

4.0 out of 5.0

Overall a nice hotel, but too expensive for what you get. The rooms aren't very big (we had a king studio suite), and they're pretty average for what you pay. Nothing plush about them at all. Although it's typical to see a markup on items in the gift store, they're marked up close to 200%. Dinner at Spencer's is nice, but also very expensive for what you get. Eggs, bacon and potatoes for breakfast - $18. Wow. At least give me some toast with that! No toast. Dinner is a little more reasonable at around $40 for a steak dinner...but still expensive. Basically, you're paying for the location. Nice, but expensive.

Love the hotel, the private beach, and location. It's within walking distance to main sites. It also has a sister hotel that is amazing that is around 5 blocks away. The staff will drive you there. If you book at The Reach, you have access to both hotels, including beaches, pools, and restaurants. All staff provided exceptional customer service. Taj & E.J. at front desk were hospitality personified.

Expected more from Waldorf Astoria. Had not been updated in decades. 500/night for a fair room. Thin walls. Could hear kids screaming and smell people smoking

Nice staff but they put us in a dirty room about 1/2 mile away from the elevator in the back. We had to complain and were moved to a handicapped room. We were not aware when we originally booked that they also will charge you for a resort fee for each day until after we received our confirmation email from Orbitz. We were very disappointed at this fact. The hotel has a sister hotel that is the Casa Marina that I would highly recommend. They did offer us breakfast each day at either resort but twice they gave us a bill for $65.00 for each time . We had to send this back for correction twice. I must say that the staff were friendly but I would recommend the other sister resort Casa Marina over The Reach. The Reach just does not live up to a Waldorf Astoria property facility as one would expect.

Great hotel, and very good staff. Clean up after Hurricane was phenomenal

I highly recommend at looking into other hotels in Key West. Me and my wife stayed there for our Honeymoon, which I even noted and spoke with the front desk about. Our room faced the stairwell, constant noise, our room was handicap accessible (not handicap), two days out of the 5 days we stayed we had to ask the front desk to have room service come to our room because they never showed up. The price you pay is not worth what you receive and honestly between the room being outdated and stairwell noise, it was the only negative of our honeymoon. I would not go back.

The location of the hotel was perfect. We were right in the middle of the everything and in walking distance. We were also right on the beach! A lot of the resorts were not on the beach like they advertise but this one was. The only problem i had was when we upgraded our room to the courtyard we were expecting a view of the pool/beach, as the staff told us. Well the beautiful and tall palm trees blocked that view so that was a waste of extra money. Other than that, we would return to stay there.

Great private beach. Front staff and concierge were great as well as beach staff that helps u with ur hairs. Wait staff in restaurant and on the beach are super slow, sometimes 30 mins to get a drink.

The beach is nice; staff is attentive. The room was fine.

Loved the beach, and was walking distance to duval street

Very fun resort with all amenities you could ask for. Beach out your front door to relax awesome views from your balcony and other decks. Fun activities such as corn hole, life size chess, botchi ball and of course jet skis, sailboats, kayaks , paddle boards. Best bar in key west for sunset drinks and music. Dinner and lunch very good too. Access to surrounding sister resorts so like you get three resorts for one.

Do not get fooled with this hotel name having Waldorf Astoria in it - it is a low-end facility that is in a fair area compared to the rest of the island - there is not an ability to call to the front-desk from the room, the concierge was of limited help at best and had to use my credit card concierge for simple reservation and recreational requests that should have been easily handled. Would not recommend this hotel nor stay here next time in Key West.

This hotel nowhere meets the expectations you would hope from a Waldorf Astoria branded property. The structure is in bad shape physically. There is yellow tape in many areas warning guests to stay clear. The building is being held up by metal poles in many places. The staff with the exception of the bellmen were unpolished. To begin with, there were not enough staff on property. I actually had to get my own beach chair, towel, etc. You have to walk up to the bar to order a drink and or food because no pool attendant is to be found! We stayed 5 nights and often times we left in the morning and came back in the afternoon and our room was still not cleaned. When they did clean, it was a quick wipe down. Not to mention, every time I was in the lobby, I heard another customer complaining to the front desk attendant about something. Let's just sum it up as the hotel is "A Reach" from a typical Waldorf Astoria.

I would have rated my stay at the hotel higher if it hadn't been such a noisy experience. I stayed at The Reach for a week and I heard jack-hammering every single day (except for Sunday). I was very rudely awakened by the jack-hammering one morning, as it was happening in the room directly above my bed! The manager at The Reach was gracious in helping stop the noise, despite my very aggravated state. I feel that it should not have happened in the first place. I am not sure how anyone was able to enjoy the beautiful grounds (pool, beach, Spencer's By the Sea) with the constant grating noise of jackhammers throughout the resort. Evenings and Sunday were the only reprieve. The hallways are also extremely noisy. Being all concrete walls and floors, I heard every passerby and their conversations. Not to mention the extremely loud staff, who would yell at each other from down the hall. I felt the room could have been cleaner (lots of blackened grout in the shower, questionably clean carpet). There was a strange lack of drawers for clothing in the room and for toiletries in the bathroom. All this said, the room had the BEST king size mattress I have ever slept on. I'm sure it is a perfectly nice place to stay when there are no repairs going on at the resort.

Great location, very nice facility. Desk, valet, concierge, housekeeping all very nice, helpful and a pleasure. Restaurant and bar wait staff and management very rude and offensive (with a few exceptions), food was good, service horrible. Would consider staying at the Reach again but would not bother going to the reastauant or bar. Too many great restaurants and bars close with excellent service and customer appreciation. Why would you have employees in a service business that do not like, want or appreciate their job or customers.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at The Reach. Was delighted to be upgraded to a suite upon check in! It was at the quiet end of Duval Street, which was really nice. The hotel staff was friendly and check in was quick. The cabana staff was great and frozen treats and towels by the pool was a great touch! Very nice having a private beach and pier with a gazebo - made for wonderful pictures! Only complaint (a very minor one) is that the housekeeping staff came around at odd times, 3 or 4 in the afternoon when we wanted to rest up before going out for the evening, but it was really no big deal. I would definitely stay here again!

Pleasantly surprised with the location and amenities!

beach staff and beach service awesome. Away from the hustle and bustle of Duvall. July very humid but taxi rides quick, short and very reasonable. with it's sister property a definite repeat. Hotel has some age but staff throughout the property very helpful and courteous.

Great location, slow WIFI and the food to expensive at hotel. Nice room.

The Reach is one of the best places to stay in Key West. One of the few places in Key west with a sandy beach which was nice and clean and much better than the public beach. The pool and amenities were great, as well as the staff. The location is nice and quiet but a quick walk to all the bars and restaurants.

Thank-you for your recent visit, and for taking the time to complete a review on Orbitz. We are pleased you had an enjoyable visit, and appreciate your kind comments in regards to our Beach. Key West is not known for it's beaches, and most beaches here have rocks in the water since the island is formed from coral. Luckily, due to the tides, The Reach has is best natural sand beach on the island, and we are proud to be able to offer this feature to our guests. We look forward to welcoming you back for a return visit soon, in sunny Key West!
