Hotel Rosso 23

This place is in a great location near the station, duomo, shops and restaurants but the room we had was small, dark and dinghy - it looked like it was in the bowels of the hotel. The shower was tiny and my husbands shoulders touched all sides. You could not bend down to pick up anything (no shelving in shower) but had to squat. The staff seemed uninterested and barely looked up from their computer when you walked past. There are heaps of hotels in Florence so I would not stay here nor recommend it.

I stayed here with a friend for three nights in August. We had travelled for a friend's wedding and wanted somewhere comfortable and convenient to sleep without stretching the budget (I think we paid about £30pppn for a standard room inc. breakfast through a third party site) We arrived from the main train station (SMN) which is less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel, which we found easily enough. Once in the main square, look for the two restaurants with outside tables; the hotel is the doorway just to the left (with a clear sign for 'Garibaldi Blu & Ross 23') Service is fantastic! Before we arrived, I had asked for bathrobes to be provided in the room (they were on the bed on arrival) and a breakfast box when we left for an early train (provided at checkout with no further promoting) which was no hassle at all for the hotel. Desk staff always greeted us as we left/arrived, as did any staff we passed in the corridors. The room was on the smaller side, but by no means the smallest room I'd ever stayed in and was plenty big enough for us to both get ready in at the same time. The ceilings are high and the windows huge, so it doesn't feel cramped at all. Air con was sufficient to keep us cool (despite it being 37 degrees outside!) and the minibar was reasonable enough (2€ for a small bottle of water) and was restocked daily. Breakfast could be taken inside or in a small, shaded courtyard (our preference, as we wanted to escape the aircon & mood lighting indoors) and had plenty of selection: toast (gluten free available on request), croissants, jams, honey, Nutella, scrambled eggs, cold sliced meats & cheeses (inc. brie!), tomatoes, yoghurts, fruit salad, biscuit packets, granola, & cereals. Our breakfast box included a cheese & ham sandwich, croissant, fruit juice, water, apple & biscuits and was greatly appreciated! Everything we wanted to see was easily reached on foot (the main shopping street is about 6-7 minutes away) and the streets are lovely and narrow, which provides plenty of shade (very welcome in August!!) I can highly recommend this hotel for anyone travelling on a budget and would book it again in a heartbeat!

I checked in to here for my one night return to Florence as I had an early train in the morning. (5mins walk from the station). It's centrally located and easy to get into the main attractions. Plus points An extremely comfortable bed. Good pillows. Stylish decor throughout. Feels very lush when you're inside. They list all the tv channels on a separate sheet, so you don't have to scroll though to find a channel you want. The breakfast area is lit with natural light, with a huge selection of food. Cereals, eggs, cold meats, cheeses, fruits, fruit juice, pastries. I was given a basket of gluten free goodies to choose from. Lovely coffee brought to your table. Minuses Walls are thin. I could hear the tv from the room next door as well as their full conversation. AC wouldn't go warmer than 21 - and turned itself off when I tried to change the temperature. The Minbar is under the desk so sit at it properly if you want to use it. No safe in the room. There's not an info pack in the room.

As many peaple wrote, the rooms are very very small. But, if you aren't high or large the place has some merits: strategic position, tasty and varied breakfast, is very clean and furnished with originality

We were only staying for one night after taking the train to Pisa before our journey the next morning to Milan. I was thankful however that I was not staying any longer. The hotel is conveniently located next to the train station and is close to the Duomo and some great restaurants. The entrance is through the Garibaldi Blu hotel, which has a grand lobby area, however our room in the Rosso 23 section of the building was extremely small. We stayed in a standard room and I had read reviews before leaving about how small the rooms were, but I had still underestimated how truly tiny the room would be. The side and bottom of the bed were against walls and the free side of the bed was about 30cm from a desk, which was the only place where we could open one of our suitcases. The bathroom was uncomfortable and the shower so very miniscule. A slim person's shoulders would still touch both sides of the shower, and if you dropped anything, there would be no room to pick it up. The staff are friendly though and the breakfast pleasant. And I disagree with the reviewer who questioned the safety of the place. Breakfast til 10.30 and checkout at 12 were also appreciated.

When we first arrived in Florence, we found that our hotel was only a 5 minute walk from the train station. However, when we got to santa maria novella square where it is located, we had trouble finding the hotel because of two reasons: one, because it's not clearly marked, and two, we had to go through a separate hotel to get to it. Once we got to the correct place, we were met by very friendly staff and a man who brought out luggage to our room for us. He was very polite and insisted us allow him to do all of our luggage for us. When we got to our room, we were pleased with it. It was a smaller room, but provided us with comfort and enough room to move freely. It was very clean and well decorated. We had breakfast every morning in the restaurant. The food was mediocre, but convenient and appreciated. Overall, we enjoyed this hotel and loved the location. Everything was walking distance and the area was gorgeous.

Room very small. Bed was pushed against wall so 1 of us always had to climb over. The shower was so small that if you turned an A4 piece of paper sideways and added about 2cm then this is the opening you had to get in it, if you dropped anything in shower you had no room to bend over to get it and constantly hit elbows etc and we are only average built/weight. Breakfast was good with the best fruit salad and breakfast staff fantastic. Lift was so slow it was quicker to walk up/down even though we were on the 3rd floor. Location is great but would rather try one of the other hotels off the piazza.

To say this hotel has class, would be very misleading. The place is DARK and does not feel safe at all- narrow corridors and no security cameras. As a woman traveling alone, I expressed my concern to the manager Luigi, after finally getting him to come out of hiding in his back office. I kindly told him I was checking out because I did not feel safe. His response was absolutely crazy. He was offended I would say such a thing about his city, and he would still charge me even though I was checking out after just one night. Then, after asking him for contact details of the owner, he refused to provide it, stating the owner is on holiday. He was clearly abusing his power and knowing that I was a tourist, treated me with great disrespect. Some other ugly details about this place: -40 eur a day for car parking -room looked like a jail cell -very dark -hard to find your way around hotel, and if you scream, no one will hear you -hagglers outside the hotel -rude and miserable receptionist. Seemed completely clueless. This hotel gives Florence a bad name, really. I have had the privilege to stay in some truly luxurious villas, such as the lovely Villa Mangiacane. But unfortunately Rosso 23 is just a cheap imitator - with a long way to go and learn about customer service. With that said, I have reached out to their PR offices and have yet to receive a reply. But be sure I will pursue getting in touch with the owner once I return to the States. Anya Primak

We arrived in Florence by train and it was just a two minute walk form the station. The staff were incredibly helpful, able to assist with restaurant recommendations directions and places of interest We had a room with a view of piazza Santa Maria Novella. Fantastic view and a huge room. A wonderful clean bathroom. The breakfast was all that could be wanted in the climate. We would definitely stay here again, thank you to all for making our stay so enjoyable

My husband and I stayed here in July of 2017. We were happy with how convenient the hotel is to everything. We loved listening to musicians in the evening in the piazza outside the hotel. The breakfast in the morning was delicious. The hotel is modern, clean, has excellent AC, and helpful and gracious staff. Having said that, the room was so small that I doubt we will stay here again. We pack light and our carry on sized suitcases were too large to leave out. We had to take turns standing up in the room because of the lack of space. (Hint: take out the desk and the bulky chair and replace it with one comfy lounge chair or something like that.) The room is smaller than an inside cabin on a cruise ship. Much smaller. Here are some suggestions for the hotel: add some shelves above the desk area where people can set things down. Add a few hooks in the bathrooms so people can hang up their medicine/make up kits. Structure the beds so that people can put their suitcases under it. It's too bad, because otherwise I'd highly recommend the hotel. It's not the staff's fault that the developers created such small rooms. But it's unfortunate.
