This was my second time at this hotel, and in my opinion, it's still the best place to stay in Florence. Our room was on the second floor, but when the windows were closed, we couldn't hear any noise from the street. We tried leaving the windows open once, but one of the shutters' fixtures was broken and wouldn't stay open. Still, I loved the light that the high windows let into the room. The room was a bit small (as many are in Europe), but comfortable. We stayed in the standard double; I'd recommend upgrading to the next level as last time we stayed here, we had a bigger and more luxurious room-- the upgrade's worth the money! The breakfast is fantastic, and I can't say enough good things about it-- the eggs, breads, juices, fruits were all delicious, and the view is lovely. We also took advantage of the hotel bar for drinks, lunch, and even dinner. The food was excellent, especially their pasta dishes, and this is the place for apertivo, too! My favorite dinner in Florence was at the hotel. This hotel's location can't be beat; you're close enough to main sites without feeling swallowed up by tourists. Hotel staff was very good; everyone at the front desk was knowledgeable and helpful. The only issue we had was with one member of housekeeping; one evening, after spending probably 3 hours downstairs having dinner and drinks, we went back to our room to find that we hadn't received turndown service. Normally we wouldn't care, but in that case, we needed fresh towels and had left ours on the floor to be collected. We asked at the front desk if we could get turndown service; the gentleman was happy to help, and called housekeeping, and we went out to take a walk. When we returned, we found the trashcan in the middle of the floor and the curtains sort of halfway pulled. OK, fine, but then a few minutes after we'd sat down, a woman from housekeeping knocked, stormed into the room, gave us a new trashcan liner, and stormed out again... Maybe she was having a bad night? Still, that left an unfortunate impression at the end of our stay. Nonetheless, no one should be deterred; L'Orologio is the best place to stay, and I'd still highly recommend it!
We have stayed here several times and it cannot be faulted. Friendly, helpful staff and immaculate rooms. Terrific buffet breakfast and easy, prompt check in and check out. It is also in a terrific location, close to Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and of course Santa Maria Novella. We cannot wait wait to return!!!!
We loved L'O. From the moment we walked in the staff was very attentive and helpful. The hotel is beautiful with contemporary appointments. We had lunch in the restaurant and the food is excellent! Pleasantly surprised! Breakfast was included with our stay and the setting and buffet was lovely. The hotel is located about a 7 minute walk from the train station and right across from the Piazza di Santa Maria Novello which is a great spot to relax and listen to live music in the piazza
What an amazing hotel. Just a few minutes walk from the central train station on a beautiful piazza. Themed floors and rooms around watches and clocks. Luxurious beds and elegant decor. Well serviced rooms with helpful staff who were delighted to assist with tours, bookings, general enquires, general service. All done with a smile. Will only stay here again in next visit to Florence.
If you are used to five star hotels and are looking for a clean cool neat place with proximity to everything in Florence, then there is no good reason to look further. In fact rarely would I consider returning to the same hotel, but this might be first. If you come by train then it is a heartbeat away from the exit of the Santa Maria Novella station--9 minute walk to piazza SMN. The hotel is perched on the corner of the square. Some cool pros: about three long blocks from Duomo. Directly across street from an authentic ramen house for those who need a fast break from pasta and a quick trip to Tokyo. Front desk is professional and kind. Clara takes care of the customers like a stringent mother of her child-- safety first with lots of care. Get directions from her for car rentals etc. Can't really think of anything bad other than the noise from the street while in our second floor room. But that's par for the course. That's really my only caution. Big thank you to the L'Orologio staff and see you again!
We arrived into Florence by train and the Hotel L'Orologio was hidden but easy to find situated behind the church to the right of the station. It is a little confusing to find at the address states 24 but number 34 is on the outside wall. The Hotel sign is also not that big so we did have to ring to get the exact location but once we did we enjoyed our stay. We stayed in room 201 for two nights which really wasn't long enough to explore the city. The rooms were of good size and high ceilings, complete with comfy beds and pillows. There is a safe, a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities but these were not replenished each day. There was 2 bottles of water which was supplied each day. The cups for the tea and coffee were proper cups not foam like we had in Venice. The aircon worked well and heavy blinds which cut out the light. There was turn down service and a mini bar. The bathroom was of good size and a walk in shower not over the bath again like Venice. The room window looks into the atrium of the hotel which is still private but what would have been nice is a room overlooking the square. The breakfast, which was included, was of good variety and this was on the top floor overlooking the square and surrounding buildings and church. A fairly good selection of food but not the variety of other hotels we have stayed in. You need to ask for toast and this was a bit of a language problem for some of the staff but we got there in the end. They will also make you a Cafe Latte or Cappuccino at no extra charge. There is a bar which opened from 12pm and drinks were reasonable price. For instance, Pina Colada cost 10 euro and beer around 7 euro. At approx. 6pm they put on a selection of cheese, chips, nuts, Olives and bread to help soak up the alcohol and there is nice a relaxing couches and chairs around the bar. There is another room off from the bar but what seems to be the best room of all, is for the smokers. When we arrived at the Hotel L'Orologio, we got a voucher that entitled us to have a free drink if we ordered lunch so of course we took up the offer. They made great pizzas and toasted sandwiches. The front counter staff were always helpful and courteous. Upon leaving the front entrance, walk straight out into the square past the building on your left and there is a booking booth that offers all the tours. We saw Segway tours and lots of people coming and going. If you turned right from the front door and headed down the street, there is a pharmacy on the opposite side of the road as to an auto teller machine not more than 20 paces away. Walking back towards the train station there is lots of restaurants and cafes. Florence isn’t that far from Pisa so we organised a tour to see the leaning tower of and it was roughly a 40min drive depending on what sort of lunatic driver you get !!! Lots of shops around for the shopper and the architecture of the buildings is amazing. Our time in Florence was too short and in hindsight we should have stayed an extra night. Would I come back to Hotel L'Orologio, probably not. Nothing to do with the Hotel but with only having 2 days and no car, would probably stay in another part of town. Now its back on the train to catch a cruise...............
Stayed 4 nights. Fabulous room, in a central location. The room are very clean, spacious, and have a very nice sized updated bathroom. The beds are quite comfy, and the robes and slippers are an awesome touch. Definitely recommend staying here.
The hotel has a perfect location, since he is close to almost all the places that you want to visit in Florence. You can go to museums, churchs and all the piazza's by walking. The staff is very friendly, The room that I booked was very large, very well decorated. The breakfast is very good and the view was very beatiful, since you can see the Piazza Santa Maria Novella. I highly recommend
This is a boutique hotel located right on the Piazza Santa Maria Nouvelle. A short walk from the train station and a short walk to the Duomo. Rooms were medium sized with smaller elevator and a nice bar/cafe attached. The service was excellent. Both before I arrived and during. I had trouble contacting some restaurants for reservations before I arrived and one email to the hotel is all it took for the front desk to arrange them for me. A confirmation was presented to me when I checked in. A medium sized breakfast room with the usual European options. Staff was friendly and fast and the food was fresh. Internet was good but don't expect to stream anything. Checking email is good. AC works and wash cloths provided. While not a 5 star like Four Seasons, this hotel delivers high quality in a nice package. I would stay here again.
This is a comfortable, mainstream hotel conveniently located in the heart of St. Maria Novella piazza. Close to Duomo and other attractions. Excellent breakfast buffet. Very good service across the board, but front desk staff are a bit surly. During our stay, hotel did have a AC issue but that happens everywhere. Ask for a room on higher floor because lower floors are noisy at night.
