The management at this Hotel were more than happy to help out with whatever I needed even after I mucked them around with my booking dates! I will be looking forward to staying here the next time I visit Edinburgh :)
Stayed here for one night while meeting with friends in Edinburgh. Handy free car park and a 10 min bus ride into the centre. Taxi cost about £8.00 each way. It's a very well kept hotel and a lovely entrance hall. Very in keeping of the period. Our room was rather on the small side, we booked a room with a four poster bed which was nice but not sure value for money. Thought the room would be a little bigger for the price. Bath towel was badly stained so had to exchange it ( manager very apologetic ) Breakfast was excellent, nice cooked breakfast in a lovely location, staff very helpful and friendly. Well worth staying, would of given it 5 stars except for dirty towel and small room.
For very little difference in price to the budget chain a few steps away - there is really no comparison- always a warm welcome and great food both at dinner and breakfast. For a period property- the rooms very well meet the needs if today's modern business traveller and tourists alike. Complimentary sherry and shortbread to go along with the usual tea and coffee is a nice touch😊👍
The Kildonan Lodge Hotel was everything we hoped for. The room with ensuite bathroom was comfortable, quiet, tastefully furnished and clean. The Hotel staff were very helpful and gracious. The Kildonan is an older, large home that has been remodeled as a boutique hotel, but the beautiful features of the house were kept intact. The dinning room and lounge have beautiful old ceilings and bay windows. The food was excellent! We ate breakfast and dinner there for the 3 days we stayed. The hotel is in a very nice quiet neighborhood, but within easy access to the Royal Mile (1.6 miles) either by foot (which we did twice) or by bus. The staff was a great help in teaching us to navigate the bus system. We highly recommend the Kildonan Lodge and hope to stay there again
We stayed here on the first day we arrived to Scotland. We arrived really early, knowing that chances of our room being ready was really wishful thinking. Indeed it was not but the kind staff said they had an early checkout and would let us use the bathroom to shower. We really weren't expecting this treatment, but it was greatly appreciated since we'd been traveling for 20 hours. Then then even gave us breakfast, which was delicious. The place itself is lovely and the room was spacious. It is conveniently located next to a bus stop so getting into the city couldn't be easier. We chose this place becasue of location since we had a car so we could park it at the hotel and go to the city,
From start to finish, we were very impressed with this accommodation. Arrived early. Were warmly greated. Room quickly arranged for earlier occupancy and served great coffee in the lounge while we waited. Breakfasts were great! Always delicious and great variety. Super service. Agree the main lounge is tired looking but we found it really comfortable. Large. Great sofas. Bedrooms all well apppointed. Well located near bus service. Easy to access city centre. Would highly recommend!!
We were greeted warmly by Gem (Jem?) and our room was well-fitted out and modern. Throughout our stay Gem was fantastic and was probably the best part of our stay. We arrived on a Sunday and there were menu boards out on the footpath. When we asked to book in for dinner we were told they closed on Sunday - why advertise?? At about 7.30 on Sunday night we endured about 30 minutes of glass bottles banging and clanging together as I can only assume a supply cupboard was filled...right outside our door (or so it sounded like.) We were in the basement floor and the dining room was above us. Staff moved furniture and clomped about for quite a considerable time, which started up again at 6.30 in the morning. Each time someone took a step our door rattled in its frame. A spotlight outside our window cast an orange glow across the ceiling even with the curtains drawn. We spent some time sitting in the lounge area, but it was quite off-putting to see a wheel broken off the sofa that had just been pushed to one side and one of the coffee tables was also considerable broken, but ignored. There seemed to be a general run-down feeling to the lounge area, which was reflected in the other staff members. On our final morning, despite being assured about an early breakfast, the staff member responsible must have arrived to work late and the front doors were only being opened at the time we were meant to be eating. Breakfast wasn't possible and we ate at the airport. Overall, very disappointed in this establishment.
We had an amazing stay at this hotel. We stayed in an executive room and it was very nice. Service and staff were excellent. The food was incredible. The mushroom risotto was the best thing I had in Edinburgh!Would definitely visit again!!
We stayed here last month for 3 nights. Hotel is on a main road into Edinburgh with very regular buses. Room was very comfortable with lovely four poster bed. Breakfast was delicious and cooked to order. Staff very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The complimentary sherry in the room was a nice touch. Thank you for a lovely stay in Edinburgh.
Just returned home from a very comfortable stay at Kildonan Lodge celebrating my boyfriend's 30th birthday. We received a warm welcome at check-in and were quickly shown to our room. We stayed in a four poster room which was clean and very nicely decorated, with a comfy bed. As we were celebrating a birthday, the hotel left a complimentary bottle of wine (in addition to the sherry and shortbread which I think comes as standard) - this was a nice touch. Free wifi which we never had any issues with. Location-wise, it was very easy to get into the main city centre with several bus routes passing right by the hotel - it takes about 10 minutes to get into the city and isn't expensive. Minor points preventing me from giving a 5 star review - shower wasn't that powerful, though it was hot which is the main thing; no conditioner provided, just shampoo - again no big deal; and finally there were a few marks on the wall though again overall the room décor was good. These things should not put you off staying here. Friendly staff, nice rooms, decent location - overall we were really happy with our stay and are happy to recommend.
