stayed in superior 4 poster ...nice hotel, even left a bottle of wine in room for birthday treat ! bit of a walk into town but not too far. breakfast really good, would definitely stay here again ... juices bath a bonus too!
Fantastic stay. I was there for only one night on a work trip. The room was lovely - comfortable bed, large bathroom, quiet. There was complimentary sherry and shortbread in the room on arrival. The staff were nice and helpful - I was able to checkout an hour late without charge and got advice on buses. The bus stop is literally across the road and about 10 minutes in the city.
Came to Edinburgh and stayed here for my husbands birthday. It was a lovely stay and as I mentioned that we were celebrating my husbands birthday we got upgraded to a superior room , also a bottle of complimentary wine !!! The breakfast was nice. The staff were very attentive. It is a little way out of the centre, but across the road is a bus stop with the option of 7 different buses that got you into the centre in 10 minuets and we never waited more than 5 minutes.
Just had a fantastic weekend at the Kildonan lodge! It is a splendid Victorian house with plenty of period features. The house is old so expect that to be reflected in many of its fixtures and fittings, but it is all character, charm and gives that wonderful Victorian era feel to it. The bedrooms are decorated in keeping with the style of the property, are very clean and comfortable with lots of personal touches. The bathrooms are modern and clean. The bed was perfectly comfortable and I loved the complimentary sherry and shortbread in the room on arrival. The location is perfect as it is 1.8 miles out of the city centre in a much quieter area away from the hustle and bustle yet still on the main road with easy access directly into Edinburgh. We took the bus each day which was just across the road and ran frequently (£4 each for a day ticket or £1.60 each way) it is about a 10 minute bus ride to the royal mile/high street. The hotel and all its staff are very welcoming and provided us with plenty of helpful Information upon check in; maps, bus times etc. The honesty bar in the lounge is a great touch, we simply helped ourselves to drinks and signed for them and they were added to our bill at the end of our stay. It is a fairly small but very cosy hotel, home from home. Very reasonably priced and provided good quality home cooked food. There is plenty of on site free parking which was a massive bonus! (Most hotels in the city centre have no parking or have limited spaces and will charge around £25 per day to park your car) With this hotel you get to enjoy the busy city life of Edinburgh whilst being able to return at the end of the day and relax in laid back cosy and peaceful surroundings. I would definitely recommend the Kildonan lodge and would also love to return if we ever decide to visit Edinburgh again in the future. Great service, great staff we had a memorable weekend.
Warm hospitality, fantastic breakfast, best porridge ever, and convenient location to the city. Buses available just outside if needed otherwise a 20-30 minute walk to the city centre. The room was average, the bathroom although modern was very small. Hairdryers are not in bathrooms in the UK as there are no power points permitted in bathrooms, so always look in your room for one. The room was noisy as we were below street level and below the dining room so were often annoyed by the scraping of chairs along the wooden floor of the dining room. Furnishings are a little tired but good value for money to stay here. The dining room is open for an evening meal every night except Sunday.
Great place to stay. Very comfortable, friendly staff and professional. What more can I say. We stopped at this place while on a BackRoads Tour of Ireland. Would have no hesitation in recommending this place.
I cant thank this hotel enough for making our stay in Edinburgh so perfect. The room was so cozy and felt like a luxurious home, it was such a quiet area but it only took like 10 minutes to the city and the bus was right outside, the food and coffee was always top quality and the honesty bar was such a nice place to hang out when coming home. But the best part was the staff. Check in and out for us messy time optimists are always a hassle to hotel staff but these people really stepped out of their way to help us with everything, and even when we accidentally came too early for the breakfast (in a hurry for the early bus to Loch Ness) they still insisted we come in and sit down and scrambled to get us whatever they could make in a short time. Definitely coming back here and recommending to all my friends going to Edinburgh!!
i stopped here for one night last week and can highly recommend, its easy enough to find, everywhere is very clean and tidy, the staff where all very friendly and the breakfast was excellent. i`ve booked again for when i return to the city in march!
There is not one thing i could say bad about this hotel ... .outstanding in every each way! Could not recommend it more for a stay in Edinburgh ....location was excellent and service was above and beyond
Large rooms with amazing tall ceilings and windows. Breakfast was buffet with great variety and cooked breakfast items made to order. Loads of buses stop nearby, only a 45 minute walk in to town. Very comfortable and welcoming.
