Apex Grassmarket Hotel

The staff was excellent, the location was great for visiting the Castle, shopping, restaurants, etc. Great value for the money!

Stayed for 4 nights and was very satisfied with my experience at the Apex Grassmarket. I believe the best part of the hotel is it's location; it is located in the center of the Old City, everything was within walking distance. Edinburgh Castle was clearly visible from the front entrance and several Harry Potter attractions were a 2 minute walk. The food was also great.

Room showed some wear and tear that needs to be addressed. Also, no air conditioning in room. Otherwise, room was clean and location of hotel is great. Right in the middle of the action.

Everything was right outside the hotel. Restaurants, street performers, plays, and of course the castle. Yet, with all the outside noise, the room was super quiet. We had a great time and would stay there again.

Advertised as a family room because it had two queen size beds But it was a regular size room, very small, also the mattress was uncomfortable! Also it was noisy at night!!

Nice room. It was great to come back to a nice modern room in Edinburgh after traveling in Scotland and staying at simple B&B's. the location is perfect for sightseeing and for bars and restaurants. Tip - The breakfast is good value for money. When you tell the hotel the night before you get it for 10 GBP instead of15 and totally worth it !!!

Our only complaint was the food. After the first night we went elsewhere! Staff and location was very good.

I was very pleased to have selected Apex International for my stay in Edinburgh. The hotel is only a short distance from the Royal Mile. It is an uphill walk to the Royal Mile, but that means it's a downhill walk on the way back to the hotel. Grassmarket is a busy area with pubs and restaurants and an active nightlife in the evening. Because of that, there can be some noise from the street, but it didn't prevent anyone in my family from getting sleep. The room and hotel were clean and the staff was very friendly. I would stay there again.

Conveniently located, modern clean facility, friendly staff, and a fabulous breakfast. Only negative was the street noise heard in the rooms facing the main street of Grassmarket. Rooms were stocked with foam ear plugs to help when sleeping.

Very pleasant hotel, walked to all the major attractions from there. Room was nice , and reception desk was helpful. Very clean and breakfast was extremely good with tons of choices, even for vegetarians

We stayed at Apex over July 4th weekend. The overall impression of the hotel is quite plain. The decoration is pretty much minimalist style. The location is in an average neighborhood. The room was small but with a very nice view of the Edinburgh Castle.

No A/C, and windows didn't open very much. Very hot and stuffy in room and lobby! Most nice modern 4 star hotels in the area have it. We had wanted to stay at their Waterloo location, but they didn't have two nights, so we never even checked for a/c at this one since the Waterloo has it. Lesson learned! The room was shabby modern. Terrible pillows, awful bed -very lumpy. Mold in the shower. Very high awkward bath tub/shower combo to step out of, nearly fell. Huge gauges/scratches in the wooden floor that should have been repaired. Would never call this a 4 star!

I've booked a premium room with Edinburgh castle view. But the room was very small and could barely turn around. The hotel was kind of plain, clean but kind of minimum style. We slept well. Next time I will choose a more upscale hotel in Edinburgh

A nice modern hotel in the midst of Old Town Edinburgh. The staff is friendly, rooms are clean and comfy. Our room didn't have a view of the castle but considering it was New Year's Eve and people were out on the street until very late into the night, being in the back of the hotel was a benefit. But the view is great from the front - ask for a castle view room if possible.

We asked to get a view and for a few dollars a night more they moved us from the back to the front with a great view of edinburgh castle. Had dinner upstairs also with view...food and service was great. Would stay there again.

I was tipped off to this property by an American I met on a flight from Rome to London. The reviews were all good and the price right so we went with it. Edinburgh is a walkable city already but if you want to stay by the Castle away from the shops and commercialization of Prince Street, this is the perfect spot. We booked the family room which had the two double beds as expected. We did have a view of the Castle! The hotel staff was friendly and held our bags at the beginning and end of our trip pre- and post-check in. Some items to Note: The walls might be somewhat thin. The outside noise (we were street side for the castle view) didn't bother us much (2nd floor only) but the people in the room next to us were quite loud. At 3 am? And 6 am? Also, the wall between the bathroom and bedroom was thin. I called the hotel a few times while out in Edinburgh to be connected to my Mother in the room and on three occasions I sat on hold waiting for a human to pick up for over 4 minutes each. I did appreciate the coffee maker and biscuits in the room. All in all, we would recommend for a trip! Enjoy!

Attractive hotel, great view of Edinburgh Castle from the front of the hotel, not from our room however. Was only a one night stay, but hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Were disappointed that breakfast was not included in our price, as 4 other hotels we stayed in during our visit did. Pool looked nice, but we didn't have time to enjoy it.

The location is great. All of the downtown sights are in easy walking distance. Clean, pleasant. This is not a fancy hotel, but then it doesn't have fancy prices, either. I'd gladly stay there again.

The hotel was central to what we wished to see & do while in Edinburgh. Staff were very helpful, giving us directions to buses etc. We did not eat at the hotel as I felt the 10 pounds was a little pricey for a simple breakfast.
