I booked my wife, my 14 month old son and I into the Lansdowne as a treat for mothers day. We don't have family nearby so It's rare for us to get away like this but I felt we needed it. I did mention it was mothers day to the hotel when I booked but I didn't think much of it. When we arrived we had a beautifully decorated family room waiting for us just above the reception area, we could see the room from the foyer area downstairs so they suggested we might like dinner together there when the baby was asleep. As fairly new parents and not having a lot of chance to stay away from home or go out, this was such a welcome treat for us. We managed to have dinner ( I had a perfectly cooked steak!) together in the foyer as suggested, the fact that our room was visible to us and so accessible allowed us to do this. Fantastic idea! We were so well looked after by the staff. They were all fantastic with our son and he enjoyed it as much as us adults did! If you're thinking of staying in Eastbourne I would highly recommend the Landsdowne, It's got such a lovely feel to it for such a big hotel, it really is welcoming. Thanks again
I have just visited the lansdowne with 5 other family members for 2 nights to attend a funeral on our first night andrew was very welcoming and went above and beyond to help us it was late but he didn't faulter he set up a ping pong table for us and when the bar was closed drinks were made for us making us feel valued as customers our rooms were clean and tidy and well prepared the breakfast buffet was well stocked and the staff friendly and effecient, if I have to find a negative it was that 2 reception staff had raised voices when what seemed like a senior staff member "a voice from the back office" would not listen to the receptionist when she was trying to explain why she had taken a specific action. She was rude and spoke too loudly anyone in the area could here her and how irritated she was. But over all a very pleasant place to stay.
Since writing my last review just over a year ago, my husband and I have returned several times to the Lansdowne. We are fortunate enough to be staying here again at the moment. As always we are in a beautiful room overlooking the sea and right from check in, staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms at the Lansdowne are spotlessly clean, generous in size and the newly updated rooms are tastefully furnished and feel luxurious. There are personal circumstances which make it essential for us to ‘get away’ every so often and the Lansdowne is a place which always helps us to refocus and recharge. We are booked in on the dinner, bed and breakfast package which is reasonable to say the least. After staying at a hotel just along the road for several years and noting it was costing us three times what it costs us to stay at the Lansdowne, with service inferior to that of the Lansdowne, we decided not to return to this hotel again. I would whole heartedly recommend the Lansdowne hotel for anyone looking for a relaxing escape for a few days in an establishment offering excellent service. I would particularly recommend the sea view rooms.
Visited this weekend and had massive family room with sea views. Clean carpets, all comfy beds, room - massive with massive bathroom, and windows that FULLY opened to allow in the sound of the shore and the coastal air. Really impressed. Wooden signs, door handles, carpets, lighting and corridors are all very eighties, but they give the hotel a character I personally liked. Some may feel the place is dated, and so a little sorry looking given that it costs TWICE as much to stay here than most PremierInns, which provide equally good rooms (but without the views). Staff friendly to kids and dogs, as were excellent maids - top marks to all who work there. Two criticisms: - All of downstairs lobby, sitting areas, smelled of fish throughout the afternoon, evening and following morning. - Felt the breakfast was pretty poor.
First contacted this hotel as wanted to leave my bag there as was busy the Thursday afternoon, so emailed the hotel and a lovely woman called Rosie sorted something out for me so I can have a early check in which was really nice of her. When I got to the hotel the Front office manager checked in and she was very friendly and polite sorry didn’t catch her name, so got checked in at half 12 then put my bag in to my room and then went straight out. Came back to the hotel around half 5 and as this was a little bit early for dinner I went to the bar to have a drink and the barman was a little rude and when he is pouring my pint he is leaning on the pump, then went I went to dinner I got even more shocked as there is not much of a choose for dinner and when they did come to take my order I asked for chips instead of the mash as I told her that I was Lactose Intolerance she seemed surprised what that is, but then had to explain that I can not have Dairy and she then seemed ok with that but with all the gluten and Lactose that people are, everyone in the catering side should know what this is. Then after dinner went back to the bar to watch the football and there was a friendly and polite gentleman called Stevie he picked it up a bit more for this hotel. Also, if you are like me and like to have a coffee in the morning to get you going, ask at reception when you check in for more coffee as only found 2 decaf coffee in my room and there no one around reception at night. There were a few maintenance issues with my room and that was the bedside lamp after you turn it off but then need to turn it back on the lamp flickers but then want come back on, and also the shower was leaking from the head, so the pressure wasn’t that good and had to stand on top of the taps to shower. The Breakfast staff was friendly and polite and there was a good selection for the breakfast
Whilst not exploring nor using all of the hotels amenities due to spending time with family in the town the relaxing ambience of the hotel was enjoyable during ‘down time’. In addition, the enticement of an accompanying breakfast pulled us in. I’m delighted that we didn’t resist.
A very enjoyable and fun event. I went with my five year old grandaughter and we had great fun especially playing musical chairs at a run around the tea table! The tea was plentiful (too much so we took home the leftovers) and the characters excellent involving every child. We will be going to the next Princess Party in July and although you may think it is a bit pricey at thirty pounds for one adult and child it is certainly worth it when you get there.
My fish cake had unidentifiable hard lumps in it. I think it was pork. I asked the waitress to check with the chef but she did not. We also ordered the avocado with sundried tomatoes. They were black.
I had a very bad experience using a groupon voucher. I didn’t actually have any food the first time around. I left negative feedback. Then the manager, Jamieson called me, apologised and asked if I would remove the negative feedback if they could redeem themselves. The original offer was for a fish n chips dinner with mushy peas. Jamieson offered the same but with a bottle of prosseco & to dine in the restaurant area as opposed to the bar area. He promised a much better experience and a date was set for good Friday at 7pm. Imagine my disappointment when on arrival my name was not only the dinner list but the waiter when I said I’d booked for fish n chips & a bottle of proseco said , very loudly ‘groupon is in the bar area ‘ ! Very indignantly. I explained that the manager had arranged this and a table was supposedly booked for 7pm.. he had not heard anything about it! He then sat us without another word and left us there ! After 10-15 mins I got up and went to a waitresss and asked why we had no prosseco and why we were being ignored? I had to explain, in great detail what I had been offered and was indeed expecting. Finally the prosseco arrived. A while later the fish n chips arrived with peas not mushy peas. The fish was small and greasy and after a bite , it was tasteless so we both left it and left the hotel... if this is the standard of food I’d give it a miss... what a waste of my good Friday evening..
My husband and I stayed here for just two short nights .We had been due to stay three weeks previous but due to snow were unable to travel down. Despite having a booking that did not have a cancellation policy the manager agreed for us to move our stay, under the exceptional weather circumstances, which was truly appreciated as we did not want to miss our stay in beautiful Eastbourne. We were greeted warmly on our arrival at this very plush grand looking hotel, and shown to our room, by a lovely lady I want to call Carol, but apologies if I’ve got her name wrong. Our room was very spacious, clean and grand. The breakfast buffet was a good selection of hot and cold food. Very tasty. The service from the waitresses was very courteous and professional. We used the bar on both evenings of our stay and again service was good and staff appeared to be enjoying what they do. I’d love to have had a sea view as perfect location on seafront...ahh but that’s for our next stay,as we will return.
