Jorge Chávez International is the main airport in Peru, located seven miles outside the capital city of Lima. It handles flights from around the world, as well as domestic routes, and it is a hub for flying on to other parts of South America. The airport can handle just over 18 million passengers in a year, and the facilities have been refurbished and expanded regularly since 2005. Passengers landing here can travel on to Lima using the official Airport Express Lima bus, which runs every 30 minutes, as well as taxis and tour buses which can be picked up outside the terminal.

The Miraflores district is the beating heart of Lima’s nightlife, packed with bars, clubs, music venues and restaurants, and if you need to recover the day after, head south to the Pan American Highway, which is lined with beaches in districts such as Lurín, Punta Hermosa and San Bartolo.
Arequipa
Arequipa is Peru’s second city, located in the south of the country. It is sometimes known as the White City, thanks to the white volcanic stone which has always been used for building in this part of Peru. The ancient heart of the city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the main draw for tourists, together with the surrounding landscape of volcanic mountains. Attractions within the city include the Convent of Santa Catalina and the Basilica Cathedral of Arequipa. Arequipa is also a perfect base from which to set off and explore the stunning 13,640 ft deep Colca Canyon.
