The Metropole Hotel3.0 out of 5.0

Our room was comfortable and clean with a good bathroom. However, in contrast to other reviewers, our room faced MacCurtain St - whatever your impressions are of Cork, I can assure you that Cork doesn't sleep. The road traffic is constant (we stayed four nights, during the week). Ask for ear plugs. Having said that, the hotel is in a good location. Five minutes to St Patrick's St, three minutes to Sin e, a few doors from Cafespresso (No. 26 - great for breakfast) and across the road from a good Japanese and the Fish Wives. "Watch this space" because the hotel will soon begin renovations lasting over four years, beginning by building new accommodation across Harley St before renovating the old building. Check with the hotel what's going on so you don't have any surprises. However, knowing that, I would stay here. Free wi-fi and we had access to the pool and sauna (tick!).
This was our second visit to The Metropole. And as before the hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. Particularly the reception and also the breakfast staff. Anything you needed they were always happy to help. My sister also came and there was a mix up with her room. However this was resolved quickly and upgraded free of charge. Overall excellent service. The hotel is in a great location. Right near town centre but far away enough for a good nights sleep. Walking distance to bus routes ect. The room was a good size family room and included everything we needed and was checked and cleaned everyday. Thank you metropole for another fab week away. We look forward to returning soon! 🍀👏🏻✈️
On arrival we were quickly dealt with at reception. We then went and parked the car which the hotel gives a discount on the daily charge. We were allocated a room which had recently been updated. The room was very fresh, spacious and comfortable. I was a little concerned when I saw packets of ear plugs, I started to wonder what we had booked but there was no noise inside or outside each night. Dressing gowns, slippers were in the wardrobe. Also an umbrella which we were glad of on the third morning. The hotel is very close to City centre. You have use of the leisure facilities, and gym but I must admit I only looked through the window as we had packed in so much each day. Food. Breakfast in the room overlooking the river was excellent as was the evening meals.Good choice of menu. All staff were very friendly helpful and made you feel welcome.
Comfortable bed and clean room. We ordered breakfast and it was late arriving and other memebers of our family received the wrong breakfast. However the staff redeemed themselves in rectifying this and did not charge us for breakfast or meals from the night before. Situated close to Cork city and not far to Blarney Castle.
Extremely friendly, reception very helpful, booking taxis etc. Good value. Room a little worn, needed rewallpapering. Free newspaper every day. Tasty buffet breakfast, good service. Spa nice, remember or borrow swim hat.
You can like the Metropole, the entrance hall, bar, reception and restaurants are well looked after and spacious. The rooms are a liitle more down than the ground floor though clean and comfortable. We booked a double room and were put up in a triple which made it a bit tricky for two tall adults to accommodate as there was only one chair but tea/coffee facilities for three in the room. Where to sit and have the coffee if not on the bed? Staff was extremely friendly, special thanks go to Rosa at the reception who is definitely every hotel's dream receptionist.
The hotel from the outside and the reception area was stunning. I thought it was going to be really lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room itself was very basic, the bathroom was very clean. We had extra pillows and blankets stored away in the wardrobe if needed. I know the hotel is having a makeover at the moment but I still wasn't impressed. The leisure pool was dirty, the swimming pool tiles had grime on and the grout itself was black, it is probably the dirtiest pool I've been in. We had a lovely relaxing break but I wouldn't recommend the hotel.
This hotel is in a great position, just a quick stroll away from Cork city centre. Though something must definitely be done to improve the rooms and the communal spaces as they look and feel quite old and tired. The customer service is of high standards and this partially makes up for the structure, but this attention to the customers should reflected in some restructuring work as well. I have personally not used any of the facilities that the hotel offers (pool, sauna, etc) becuase I was there just for the night, but I was quite impressed by the offering.
Staff were extremely helpful and could not do enough to help us. Hotel is a great location for exploring Cork and is just a few minutes walk away from the main centre. Lots of restaurants and pubs also nearby.
We stayed in the Metropole hotel a few weeks ago. Disappointing experience. On a positive note, the staff were friendly and it was only a short walk to main shopping area. Negatives meanwhile...(here we go...) Had to complain over the noise levels. I am aware that we can not change noise from outside the hotel (such as 24 hr bus station) but did we need a band playing loudly into the small hours. When we arrived we decided to take a bath. When we got in the bath it came to our attention that the bath was dilapidated and held together by silicon. Room needed decorating and was very small. Poor and small lifts, and lengthy walks to rooms. We appreciate that it is an old building, but needs doing up to reach its former glory. The bar however, was quite modern.
