I stayed for one night on a business trip. The hotel was so convenient for my trip. It's a cleverly designed and nicely finished hotel that has been shoe horned onto a very central site on South Mall. Everything worked well. I was a little confused as my room was on level 1 which it turned out is the 2nd basement level. Being so close to the river I slept with one eye open.
Modern facility. If you want a tub, be sure to ask for it, or you'll just have a shower in your room. The bar and cafe service were slow. We did have a good group dinner in the dining room.. The included breakfast was nice. I don't know how to address price and value, as it was included with our tour.
Very nice hotel for the money. Room was very nice. The only downside is that parking is a couple blocks away and you have to pay extra for it. Plenty of pubs in restaurants in the area. Hard to find without the help of Siri. It seems everything is hard to find with no street signs.
This is a review of the Grain & Grill restaurant inside the Maldron Hotel Southmall, as it does not have its own entry on TripAdvisor yet, the hotel still being new. I dined here with a colleague for dinner in May 2019. It was a busy Tuesday evening in Cork City center, and we had been walking around looking for somewhere to eat - many of the restaurants were full, and we had no reservation. I then thought of this new hotel and suggested we pop in for a look at its restaurant, which I didn't know anything about. We dropped in and there was a host at the entrance to the restaurant, who had no problem giving us a table, even though we did not have a reservation, and were not staying at the hotel. It was not very busy anyway, there was some small party around one big table though. We were promptly seated and given menus. Food: We both did not have any starters. I got the "Fillet of Courtmacsherry Hake" (with baby spinach, roast potatoes and a shrimp and chilli butter), while my colleague had the "Reel Fish & Chips" (Smithwicks ale battered fillet of fresh haddock with pea puree, tartar sauce lemon confit and hand cut chips). My dish was very nicely presented, and the fish was excellent, well cooked, meaty, and had great flavour - I really enjoyed it. My colleague also really enjoyed his fish and chips - which I had a bite of, really nice batter. I finished off with vanilla ice-cream which was also very tasty, served with some strawberries and sauces. Pictures of my dishes are attached to this review. Service: Service was generally very good - all the staff were very friendly I must say. We ordered quickly, and also got our food quickly as well. Things were a bit quiet in the restaurant towards the end of our meal, and we were waiting a little while so request the bill from our waitress, and then pay it at the end as well, that would have been the only downside. Location: The restaurant is located behind and to the left of the reception area of the hotel. The hotel itself is located on South Mall, Cork's main financial street, and is an easy 5 minute walk to the St. Patrick's street, which is the main street in Cork. Overall: Very happy for the most part with my dinner here - very nice, nothing overly fancy or stand-out either. Would certainly consider going back there again if I'm looking for dinner in Cork city.
Booked vi Hotels.com . Very nice location and pleasant reception . No on site Parking but clear directions given to a local car park. Staff were very helpful ( in particular Clara on the front desk ). Good room with a good bed, water in the room , a good sized bathroom. Things for the hotel to work on Reception level Level 3 - odd ! Bathroom - needs better lighting - shaving in the dark ! Breakfast at 10 Euros was excellent value. I will return .
Stayed 2 nights here and it was great. Location was great , waked all around , location is within walking distant of most places. Edward and Emmanuel were very hospitable and genuine , the room was nice , clean , spacious, breakfast was delicious and could not have had a more pleasant experience
I stayed here for 2 nights for business. It was so lovely and clean and new and the beds were super comfy! Breakfast was delicious and all self service so no hassle looking for a staff member to order tea/coffee from, it was all available in the buffet which was great! My room had a bath in the en-suite which I love and my room was at the back in a courtyard so it was lovely and quite. The only thing I would have liked os to have a ramp inside the main door for luggage. There are 3/4 steps and if you have a heavy suitcase (like me) it was awkward to have to lift it up the few steps. I’m sure a ramp could have been put in easy enough. There is a lift for wheelchairs but the sign says it needs staff assistance so that’s too much hassle Vs dragging a bag up a few steps. I work for a company near by so would love if there was a corporate rate as I’ll definitely stay there again. There is no car park on site, there is one at City Hall across the River a few minutes walk away but the hotel does subsidize it so thank goodness for that. Overall would highly recommend this hotel 👍
My first poor review on trip advisor. Booked the hotel 8 months in advance to arrive and be told the hotel was full and we were given a room next to the elevator, meant for handicapped guests. The room was awkwardly shaped and the bathroom was not convenient due to the set up for its intended guests. What was even more disappointing was waiting by the counter for the restaurant to go ignored not only by the staff but by the manager talking to employee right next to the counter. Overall was not impressed. I will say the coffee ship attached was lovely and the service was wonderful! Will look to stay elsewhere next time we visit.
The Maldron Cork City Center is perfectly located and restaurants and shops are nearby. I agree with other reviewers regarding this property. The rooms are new but there is only one drawer in the room and that drawer holds directions to the coffee maker. The drawer is too small ro have any practical use. I wonder where the designers of this hotel thought travelers would put their clothing, toiletries, etc.? One drawer, no shelves, no storage. Traveling brings its own challenges and I travel lightly. Why did I have to put mt clothing ON THE FLOOR?
I had an executive room overlooking the river which was lovely. Room was a good size. Clean. Shower was powerful. Great central location . Breakfast is self service and was delicious. I would stay here again
