Harvey House Bed & Breakfast4.0 out of 5.0

The owner, Beth, is a gracious host and easily available via text or in person in the kitchen, where, BTW, she treats you to innovative recipes for all your breakfast favorites. The interior and exterior (in good weather) spaces are elegant and comfortable, a rare combination in historic homes. Beth's helpers are charming and will help you taking luggage up and down the stairs. Parking on Scoville should be no problem but, in spring/summer, do look for signs on lamp-posts that tell you which day of the month each side of the street will be cleaned and illegal to park on 7-9 AM.
My wife and I stayed at Harvey House during our 2019 trip to Chicago. We usually stay downtown at a hotel, but everything was booked for weekend... lucky for us! While searching on Trip Advisor I found Harvey House and decided to take a chance. Both my wife and I were very pleased with the outcome. The owner of the house was courteous, and helped us navigate the "EL" Train into the city (there is a stop 1 block from the B&B, very convenient). She offered us great recommendations for local eateries (Maya Del Sol was awesome!) and there were even discounts. The B&B was clean, quiet, and the breakfast our first morning was excellent! Our Pop-Over Pancakes were delicious, with fresh fruit, great coffee, and real maple syrup. A must! Oak Park is a wonderful town, with great walking and eating options all very close to the B&B - and the train ride into the city was cheap and easy (definitely cheaper than an Uber). We hope to stay again next year :)
Our stay at the Harvey House was exceptional. We stayed in the Jimmy Stuart Suite which is delightful. The room is very large, with a large table/desk sitting in a bay window, a lovely fireplace with a double love seat, and a beautiful, well appointed bathroom, complete with jetted tub. Every room in the house is inviting and pleasant. Each of the five bedrooms is uniquely furnished. Breakfast each day was excellent and prepared to our liking. The Harvey house website even provides the recipes for their signature dishes. The Harvey House is located in Oak Park, which is a wonderful area for those interested in Frank Lloyd Wright and Ernest Hemingway and there are many activities available related to both of them. Any one who is seeking a superior bed and breakfast experience should enjoy the Harvey House.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Harvey House! My huge room was luxurious with a kingsize bed, huge desk, chaise, and a lovely bathroom with a big shower. Breakfast was a real treat with a special pancake and poached egg, fresh squeezed orange juice and wonderful coffee. Everything has been thought of for your comfort and pleasure. I would go back in a minute!
My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon. Could not ask for a better place. The room was great, the staff was very kind and helpful, the breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend this place to everyone.
Can’t say enough good things about this place!!! The bed, linens, towels, food, hosts, just everything was fantastic!!! We had to check out early in the morning and she made a a egg sandwich and coffee to go. Would stay again in a heartbeat. We had the garden room, highly recommend!!!
This a beautiful home, warm and comfortable and impeccably clean. Delicious and generous breakfast. Lovely innkeeper who is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Great location to downtown Oak Park. Nice addition that many local restaurants offer a benefit at dining because we stay at Harvey House. A definite return for us!!!
Stayed at this B&B for the first time recently and felt so at home and breakfast was delicious (and interesting!) and Beth was truly a fine host. What made this B&B excellent was the kindness with which we were welcomed, advice about where to go in the area and the flexibility that was offered (and the cleanliness/comfort of the bedrooms). We were hoping for a leisurely weekend and though my SO and I probably did not get breakfast until 10:30 both mornings, this was easily accommodated. The breakfast was really delicious (which is not something I can usually say about a B&B) and the area is well situated in terms of proximity to Chicago and really just a walk to the Frank Lloyd Wright house and Unity temple which we certainly enjoyed. Truly an outstanding B&B which made the weekend both peaceful (we slept well!) and rejuvenating. No unpleasant surprises.
The B&B was beautiful, impeccably decorated, and well stocked but the best asset it has is its owner and operator Beth, she went above and beyond to accommodate my late check-in, gave me her personal cell hone number for any of my needs, and was always readily available for communication. She really seems to care about her business and the customer experience. I would highly recommend this location to any friends or family.
I had a wonderful respite at Harvey House while in the midst of a difficult family situation...the B&B made everything so much easier to deal with. The Beds were wonderful, the common area was gracious and the breakfast was a treat!
