Absolutely beautiful property. Very nice rooms. Somebody had some really loud dogs above us, but other than that - it was incredibly peaceful.
This was our first trip with our baby (9 months). We walked the beautiful gardens over and over and always saw a different view! We loved the flowers, farm animals and relaxed atmosphere!
We planned on staying at the Inn at Middleton to be away from the 4th of July fireworks and hubbub in Charleston, but we had planned on driving back into Charleston on each day of our stay. Once we got to the Inn, it was so lovely, we never went back to Charleston. We just stayed at the Inn and visited the Middleton Plantation which is included in the price of the room. We had a great stay and vacation.
The property is truly a wonderful place and the architecture of the buildings is unique and intriguing . We had a wonderful stay and plan to stay again . Maintenance of the buildings could be better but it was a very nice almost Frank Lloyd Wright kind of property . Don't miss the tour of the Gardens and the Middleton House
My wife and I through enjoyed our stay at the Inn at Middleton Place. I love the design of the place. Very tasteful decor. Not overly decorated like some inns. Staff was courteous and helpful. The place is a nature-lover's paradise. We hope to go back.
The room is like a really nice cabin in the woods. Amazing bathtub, but the beds are on the older side. Wood burning fireplace in the room. Resteraunt a+ breakfast c-
had a great time.the horse ride was the best i ever could have asked for and our guide Andy was great.so much to do all the history and food wow just a very time over all
Great hotel, staff, and amenities. Location is great though not as close to downtown charleston, but everything else was beyond perfect! would definately be back soon!
Great place to stay for a trip to Charleston if you love the outdoors. The property is beautiful and the staff is very friendly and offer to go above and beyond their normal duties. The rooms have a cabin like feel with lots of floor to ceiling windows for enjoying the views. Don't expect much out of the electronics and appliances, tiny old tv and small refrigerator. This was fine for us because we did not spend much time inside. There was a lot of maintenance issues in our building. Our AC stopped cooling well twice, but staff was quick to solve the issue and after replacing a part the second time we had no problems. A couple in our building were moved to another unit and workers stayed up on the roof doing repairs for our entire stay. They were very respectful and tried not to make too much noise. I did not see them doing any work on any other units so I believe this was isolated and not a case of poor maintenance. Lots of alligators in some of the ponds. Kayaking was fun. Great for traveling with dogs. About a thirty minute trip to downtown area. If you want to be closer to attractions you may want to stay closer but we enjoyed the plantation and inn as much as we did downtown Charleston.
Very convenient for the gardens Lost of space to walk and for children to play on the river and wooded enjoyed the Monday night dinner and movie We have told several family and friends it is a good place to stay. The price was more than I like but with the time of the year and the entrence to the gardens and historical house included the price was not lbad. We went to the gardens twice, Monday and Wednesday.
Great experience during my one-night stay. Met great people at the evening reception, had a great night's sleep in the room, and enjoyed a good breakfast the next morning. The surrounding property is beautiful and easy to walk around during the day. Staff was very helpful with any questions I had. Short drive to Charleston and a great way to unwind from crazy town madness. I will definitely be back.
We had a small hicup with our restaurant reservations but the manager quickly resolved any issues and gave us a bottle of wine and chocolate covered strawberries for the inconvenience. The food at the restaurant was phenomenal - better than any experience we have had at other restaurants. Don't hesitate to make a reservation at this wonderful place! We will do this again.
The building and surrounding landscape are amazing.
The staff was nice, the room was clean the large windows with the view of river was beautiful!!!
They anticipated my every need for comfort. Loved the 150 gallon European spa tub and the bath salts. Peaceful, serene setting. The floor-to-ceiling windows added a nice touch.
Nice room with beautiful surroundings, the grounds are well kept. The staff at registration were very friendly and helpful. The Inn's Tabby cat was very sweet as well. Our dinner at the on site restaurant was 5 stars. Our daily breakfast meals were wonderful too. I will return to this Inn at any opportunity.
To be fair and objective I must first acknowledge that the property upon which the facilities were located was an historic and graceful plantation, which lived up to its reputation. Additionally, the modern architectural design of the Inn at Middleton is truly noteworthy. That's pretty much where the good stuff ends. The amenities were completely lacking or insufficient by modern standards. No internet connectivity. Lukewarm and limited hot water, which could not allow for a full tub of hot water in which to bathe. Worn, unmaintained, and noisy plumbing (our room and a neighboring room shared the same screaming faucet issue: it was nerve wrecking.) Old 19" tube television with 12 channels (really?) Worn and unmaintained electrical fixtures in the rooms (no grounding.) Broken, difficult, and unsightly window shudders that made viewing outside a chore. Outdated and severely worn door hardware (the key barely worked to unlock the room and the old metal door allowed for noise to transmit through.) Relatively little insulative quality to the structure of the room. Due to the concrete and steel designs the room was freezing cold, which required that the noisy HVAC run harder (the nice fireplace did help, though.) Filthy, foggy windows made viewing the beautiful grounds nearly impossible and pretty much ruined the reason for booking the room. Signs posted stated that protecting the environment was the reason for not turning in the linens and towels, yet so many other things suggested that the entire theme was to waste as much energy as possible (eg. old high capacity toilet.) I cannot recommend this place to anyone who doesn't at least know these facts before booking. As I stated, the property and customer service was great. We did not bother complaining on site due to an event in the area and the unlikely ability to book elsewhere on such short notice and the hassle of doing so. I am sending a letter to the GM soon.
We highly recommend The Inn in Middleton for anyone who likes the backwoods retreat setting. There's plenty to do, including horseback riding, trails, gardens and fine dining. The rooms are generous and rather rustic which only adds to the ambience. They offer either woodland or riverine views from large windows and a real fireplace in which you are encouraged to build one. Also worth mention is a 150 gal. bathtub, easily 6'x4'x2'. Enormous! Dinner at he restaurant [which requires a walk through the woods] and breakfast at the lodge were excellent. One caveat: The internet access offered is so slow as to be non functional. We will definitely return.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Stay was memorable. Would love to return when the pool is open.
This is a great get-away from the city. We loved the river/woods like setting. The hotel is so unique on a Plantation we loved the room set-up etc and wall of windows. Our only concern was the musty smell overwhelmed the stay inside the room. It is apparent that there needs to be some updating from the outside, and water leaks etc. If the hotel would spend some money fixing and maintaining this would receive an outstanding rating. Everything elso was great.
