this place was awesome. the attention and service was incredible. i originaly booked 8 days, then decided to extend for 5 more days and had no problems doing so. we got a new room with a real big bed and it was very comfy. Luis is such an awesome and friendly guy, I wish I got the ladies names at the front desk, they too were very sweet and helpful and everyone who worked there always greeted me with a smile and very polite demeanor. the food is so delicious and well priced, and the breakfast is included wich was also different and delicious every day. also it is next door to a 24 grocery store, and another located 1 block in the other direction. 5 min walk from the beach in the center of boca grande. its a great selection for a good deal. I was so blown away by how nice of a hotel this is considering its size and the look from the outside. its a hidden gem. I loved my stay and hope to come back to Cartagena many more times and when I do, I will definitely book with barlovento again.
Small central hotel in Bocagrande. 2 blocks to beach and 1 block to Ave San Martin where there are all kinds of restaurants, shops and casinos. Very safe area during day and night next door to 24 hrs supermarket and 1 block from another 24 hrs supermarket. The hotel is in the middle of renovation which was not an issue. Breakfast was good with different options every day. The room I had was small however good for a solo traveler. The bathroom was also small not enough room for toiletries, shower was nice and had hot water. Everything was very clean. This is a clean, basic and central hotel and with renovation I believe it will be even better. Staff does not speak enough english however they try very hard to help in any way. Thank you Hotel Barlovento for a very nice stay.
I traveled to Cartagena for a few days to go snorkeling at Islas Rosario. I arrived at Hotel Barlovento2 hours before check in, but Luisa was excellent and gave me a room that was ready. The hotel smelled very nice. The bathroom was small, but very clean...as was the rest of the room. The bed was hard, but I had no problems sleeping. The breakfast buffet was included....not a lot of choices, but the food was pretty good. The pool is small and there only are 3 beach chairs. If you bring a guest that is not on the reservation, there is an extra charge of $65,000 pesos. If you are looking for a deluxe hotel, there are other options...but for an inexpensive and clean/safe place to sleep, I would definitely recommend it.
got there at night and the area was a little scarey. I was also injured and didn't feel good at all which may be the reason why I was scared, The club sandwich was amazing !! love the food !! bathroom was also very clean thank you for welcoming us.
Location is good lots of restaurants and amenities around. Reception was effective with the person speaking English. Room was small but adequate, had a mini fridge and tv. Free wifi. Shower had hot water. Breakfast was included
Really enjoyed this hotel. Great breakfast. Great location. Clean rooms with quite a bit of space. Receptive staff. Quiet room.. I can't think of anything negative. I would gladly stay there again. The hotel also helps you with taxis, airport, and transfer to other cities.
We had a good experience at this hotel. We chose a room that was the size we wanted. The staff was friendly and two staff members spoke good English. When we came in from the days' activities, the friendly restaurant manager, Louis, gave us coffee each time. There was an excellent laundry service nearby. We used the pool and enjoyed, we also sat in the pool area one evening and had our own beer and snack. The hotel provided beach towels for our outings and for the pool, which we purchased through the hotel - a tour to the mud volcano, and a tour to Playa Blanca.
It was a decent 3-star hotel. The rooms and bathrooms were a bit cramped, but clean. The staff is helpful. The breakfast was a bit of a disappointment, however. For the price, you might be able to find a nicer place in the Old City if you shop around, unless you like Bocagrande (which I didn't).
I believe that for the price (about 110,000 COP per night for a bedroom for a 2 people), one could find a MUCH better hotel. The room was so humid that even the sheets felt wet. My bathing suit that I hung up to dry never dried because of the intense humidity. The room and the hotel don´t look bad, but the area is full of hotels that seem a lot better for the same price. The pool is also extremely small. The only redeeming quality for this hotel is that the breakfasts were great.
The staff here were all very accommodating and welcoming. They all smiled and made small talk. I always felt like a welcomed guest. Unfortunately, the hotel needs an update. There were black ants all over the bathroom sink and walls. One day I went to wash my face only to find ants all over the towel. YUCK! The wifi was terrible and it dropped every 5-10 or so minutes. My room faced the street and was unfortunately VERY noisy. Maybe double paned or noise proof windows would help. I give 3 stars instead of 2 because the service was really top-notch, the location was great, and the AC quickly cooled the room.
