Arrived to a friendly welcome and a nice glass of chilled Sauvignon Blanc. Sat with our front of house member of staff who talked us through what was on offer and then guided to our rooms. Rooms were large with high ceilings tea and coffee facilities and a pay for mini bar. Only showers as the water restrictions mean water savings required which seems to be a usual now for the Western Cape. Bikes were available to use with 2 cycle trails 5 and 10k which took you around the property and vineyard. Onsite a wild bird sanctuary which the kids loved, they were able to hold some of the birds of prey and come close to others. Staff were knowledgeable about the animals and we went to a bird of prey show. There is also a craft market onsite at the vineyard an outdoor art display and an outdoor pool. Eight restaurant was fantastic with lots of the dishes using home grown and reared products. The restaurant in the main hotel was also very good 3 course buffet with plenty of choice along side an a la carte didn't have time to do the wine tasting but a great hotel with plenty to do for all the family.

Lovely big rooms - gorgeous wine farm! Loved the fire in the room. The spa was great and good value for money - we also went to eagle encounters. Was slightly disappointed by the wine tasting - it was the only one we chose to do and didn't feel we were greeted/ looked after very well. Would definitely recommend staying though!

Lovely grounds, great service, very comfortable and spacious room. Took my two boys (5 & 8) for a night at Spier. We had a great time just hanging out on the grounds, in our room, in the pool (a bit chilly), and in the kid's play house. Felt like we were in a little village.

Went to this hotel in April 2018, great location and very freindly staff. 8 restaurant had great food and the bird sanctuary was a great experience holding a black eagle and stroking owls. This hotel also has some great walks.

A wonderful place. We had a trip of a lifetime but this was one of the highlights. Staff was especially friendly and the facilities were stunning, between the pool, the running track, the tastefully furnished rooms, the fabulous food and most of all the art! Outdoors, indoors - even in the toilet cubicles!!! Such great attention to detail in all aspects. I gave this full marks all the way through and I normally don't do that lightly.

The ladies really liked the wine tasting and tour. But I enjoyed biking around and the Bird sanctuary more than anything else. I can go to many wineries in the states, so I questioned why we needed to burn a day at a winery, so I made the best of it at the Bird sanctuary. You too can do the same, if your a nature love like me.

There’s nothing that beats exceptional service, and the Spier Hotel Spa did not shy away from this. From their friendly staff that attends to your specific needs and to stepping out the treatment room feeling refreshed, there’s no place I’d prefer to return to or highly recommend. The organic ambience is harmonious and the environment slightly captivating, because honestly, if it wasn’t for Monday, I would’ve stayed.

We stayed at Spier for 2 nights, having been keen to go back after a wine tasting here the previous year. We were not disappointed; the staff are all so lovely, welcoming and friendly - we didn’t meet a single person who wasn’t great. The room was lovely and spacious, quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was excellent, especially being able to eat on the terrace. The spa is fantastic and very reasonably priced. The options for dining are great - the picnic we had was fabulous, the hog house is lovely and relaxed, the farm to table dining experience was one of the best we had in SA. Cannot wait to return.

We stayed at Spier one night before heading into Cape Town and wished we had stayed another. After check in (glass of wine on arrival) our two boys went into the kids club so that my husband and I could go off wine tasting - recommend the chocolate and wine tasting. A huge setting when you can easily 'while away' the hours having a picnic from the market shop, or a glass of wine whilst watching the kids play or meander through the craft stalls. Lots to do around the estate. Dinner at Eight was delicious with superb staff. Loved Spier and would go again.

My boyfriend and I usually spend HOURS reading reviews when booking hotels. Since we had heard many good stories about Spier Hotel we had high expectations when booking. However, I cannot conclude otherwise than that our actual stay exceeded our expectations in many ways and made our 6-night stay in Stellenbosch very memorable. Our room (#412) was excellent. A childrens bed was placed free-of charge and even with this extra bed the room was spacious and luxurious. The master bed was heavenly, very big and very comfortable. Furthermore the room was clean, well equipped and we had complementary wine upon arrival, and bottled water. The premises are beautiful and excellent for a stay with kids as they can wander around. The Spier picknick is famous and definitely worth a try. We have had diner in the main restaurant a few times. I liked the fact that they have a seperate kids menu and make sure the kids are served first so that their parents can eat in all quiteness. The menu is a bit limited but the dishes are of high quality. Breakfast is delicous with actually the best orange juice I've had in a hotel in a long time ;-) All and all, a very positive, if not excellent experience with all facilities in the hotel. But... what gave our experience that 'extra special touch' was the staff working at Spier. Spier hotel is not a small hotel but staff members are stars in personal touches. From a glass of wine during check-in, to a friendly chat in the morning, to making sure we were comfortable in every way possible, they catered to our every need, and that of our 3-year old son (thank you, ladies in the restaurant! ;-)). The kind of service that is sometimes difficult to find, but we found it at Spier. Special thanks to Geordie and all colleagues at the reception who made us feel like appreciated guests every single time (not to mention finding our car keys, telephone cables and all other things our son lost on the premises ;-)). Will we come back? Will not even bother to look for another hotel when visiting Stellenbosch again (hopefully soon)!
