what a wonderful stay! from the friendly greetings and good humoured staff, to the delicious food to the comfortable beds to the excellent atmosphere. Our family left rejuvenated, refreshed and inspired to return in the hopefully near future.
We had an outstanding stay at the hotel. We visited the wine estate the year before, just for a picnic and was very pleased to have stayed the night. Service was brilliant, staff were brilliant, rooms are spacious and clean, just fantastic. Had dinner at the hotel, absolutely delicious!! I appreciate how they are continuously improving the grounds with new activities. Well done guys!! Outstanding!!!
A quick stop off on the way to a wedding further along the garden route. Welcomed at 11.30 in the morning with a lovely glass of wine, all of the facilities and options explained by the staff. We went on the audio tour which was interesting to learn about the farm (should have done this in the evening as the sun was too hot). Enjoyed a nice picnic which we had booked in advance then wine tasting before some time by one of the pools to chill before dinner. Very relaxing day and evening would recommend. Important to read up and plan if you have a limited time like us, if you are there for a few days you can take it easy.
Really enjoyed Spier, great hotel and restaurants, and the gardens are great despite the water shortages. A great balance of luxury and African charm. The wine, if course, is excellent too. Highly recommend
I take my hat off to whoever designed this place, they had fantastic vision and creative flair. The hotel is a short drive from Stellenbosch town but it's a great place to be. The hotel itself has lovely large air conditioned rooms with a 7ft double bed, incredible. Hard to know which rooms to go for, pros and cons, downstairs have terrace onto communal garden area, upstairs have Juliet balcony. Centre blocks each have their own swimming pool in the centre with sun beds. Safely fenced in so you don't have to worry about the children. Our block didn't have a pool but looked out on the mountains and very quiet. Staff is what you would expect for a hotel of this quality and do a fantastic job keeping you happy. Breakfast is a delight with choice of indoor and outdoor eating and a lovely selection and fresh cooked eggs/omelettes. The design of this wine farm is outstanding. The architecture of the buildings alone is majestic. It has to be said that there are probably better Stellenbosch wines than Spier but don't let that put you off. The wine tasting room is superb and a lovely experience. There are 3 restaurants, a brewery, a farm shop, a pizza shop and deli for you to build a picnic if that's what you fancy. There is a craft market, Segway tours, 2 running tracks, a bar, numerous lounges, main swimming pool, spa treatments, crèche, artisans, gift shop, birds of prey sanctuary ..the list just goes on. You cannot get bored here. The grounds, lakes and river create a most beautiful setting. We tried the spa treatments they were outstanding. We tried the dine in food so we could watch the rugby on tv that was also wonderful. I cannot tell you how good the birds of prey display is and I was a sceptic going in. These birds are being rehabilitated after injury, they even transplant tail feathers so they can fly again. Wonderful to watch. Thank you to all at Spier for a wonderful stay, we will never forget this experience.
One anticipated a haven of tranquility after a long journey along the Garden Route. Instead the resort was not up to the anticipated standards and the stay was disappointing. The dinner menu was very unappealing for the climate and time of year, it lacked all imagination and was stodgy and unappetising.
The location is great. The facilities are great. The accommodation is very nice - bathrooms a little dated. Sadly management were not apparent at reception and dining areas where they should have been
An annual haunt so biased as hell I suppose, but it is , for us , Perfect! Huge rooms! Huge grounds to safely explore! Amazing & Cheap Wines! Great Food! Hoghouse Bakery Restaurant at Lunchtime!! Lovely Pool & very comfy loungers! Staff are so friendly and will go the extra mile for you. Even the serious water shortage and few restrictions could not tarnish this Home away from Home. Management need congratulating in dealing with any issues promptly and efficiently if they occur, but the staff there are the biggest asset in making your stay so comfortable. Joyce for always getting us a nice table at breakfast and on the terrace in the evenings. Donnington was a lovely guy who excelled in putting you at ease and making us so welcome. So many waitresses names I rudely cannot recall but all so genuine. Thanks Spier for a magnificent stay. Will be back next year.
Myself and my partner had an extremely comfortable, enjoyable and altogether pleasant overnight stay at one of the Signature Rooms at Spier. Staff are extremely friendly and professional. Thanks to everyone at Spier.
You will not make a mistake staying at Spier. The farm has so much to offer, from walks, swimming pools, spa, the Spier vegetable garden, artwork, wining and dining... the list goes on! We wish we could have stayed for longer. It is the perfect break-away.
