Was not sure what to expect but the hotel was great. stayed one night only and on business. room was larger than I expected, very clean and had all the amenities that I needed. bed was comfortable with quality linen. great shower as well. Front desk staff were very helpful (as I had an issue with my Marriotts rewards card which they sorted out). Parking guard was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a little disappointing. fair selection for breakfast but poor service. staff were not attentive at all and grudgingly served you. hot buffet items were also cold. if I had had the time and was on holiday I would have complained.. but alas I had meetings to attend. otherwise a good stay. rooms were very good.
The hotel is small and quaint. However the food served here is absolutely terrible. If there were negative number on the ratings score I would rate them a -10. I'm completely confused how the kitchen staff confidently serve such food to customers. Appalling. Truly !!!
We stopped in here for lunch, during an Atlantic Rail Tour. Great place, friendly staff, great service, especially from a lady called Petronella (hope I have spelt her name right) in the restaurant. Highly Recommended.
This is my second stay in this hotel. The first was in room 3 next to the kitchen. From very early in the morning I was disturbed by the noises and the smell coming from there. While the breakfast itself was the normal high quality of Protea hotels, it didn't make up for the room experience. This time around I was booked into a deluxe loft room and boy was it amazing. As big as a small house with an amazing bathroom, it gave me a total different experience of the hotel as a whole.
Clean and hospitable. Upstairs loft spacious but a little uneasy for a tall person. Air conditioning quiet and cool. Breakfast good and plentiful. Enjoyed my one night here. 10 minute walk to town center and restaurants. 5 minutes to nice selection of restaurants on Dorp Street. Feels old but quaint. Good place.
There is certain colonial charm in this hotel which excuses few things otherwise would not be acceptable for example old ordinary thin doors when opening to lobby did not keep away any conversation hold outside the room nor did the windows keep from the street noise. And it's located next to rather important and vivid streets. The location is good but about 10 min off from the city center. The streets are really safe to walk even at nights so that was no problem. Service as such was good, the rooms really large with very high ceilings. Breakfast choice was a bit limited and got boring during a weeks stay. The wasn't heated as promised, but chilly refreshment on a hot day.
Stayed here as part of a group of 16 golfers visiting from the UK. Hotel ideally situated for golf and wine trips and also a short walk into Stellenbosch, which was lovely. My room was very spacious (room 2), clean and bed very comfortable. Staff and service were good too and breakfast was fine. Would stay again if I'm lucky enough to return to SA.
This is a good place to use as a home base if you plan to tour the local wine regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. It is also close to town if you would like to walk Dorp street and get a sense of the local culture. The staff was helpful and friendly and arranged a tour guide for me at a much better rate than going through a service. I would come back here.
We had a loft room number 29. Very lovely accomadation for the two of us. Close to the pool spa and reception. Plenty of good restaurants in the area. The breakfasts are very good. I am on a strict gluten/ wheat free diet and they have gluten free bread, muffins, crumpets. All warm food like omelttes and scrambled eggs can be cooked separately in the kitchen. Excellent choices of fruit and cheeses. Get your travel agent to inform the hotel about dietary needs.
A lovely quaint hotel that reminded me of an old farmhouse. All rooms were very different from studio flats to two storey houses. I had a 2 storey house, which had a large kitchen, toilet and shower downstairs with a large TV dining area and lounge area. Upstairs was a large bedroom, second bathroom with a shower and separate bath, another large TV. There was also Tea and coffee facilities. Outside on the patio were loungers to sit in the sun and a small swimming pool. All the staff were lovely and managed very well with a seating of 23 people for dinner, although they requested that we did order our meals up front so they knew in advance what everyone wanted. The hotel is also ideally situated for a short walk to the shops and they have some botanical gardens nearby that you can stroll around. However can get noisy with the boy racers early in the morning, so take your ear plugs. Drinks here I found a little more expensive than in cape town with a glass of white sparkling wine coming in at around £5. The hotel has a small bar, with a lounge area of settees where you can sit, drink and watch TV. Wi-Fi here is free and easy to log into. Highly recommend this hotel, if only for its quaintness and individuality, a great experience.
