If you’re thinking of visiting the Cathedral (and why wouldn’t you!) this is the perfect place. Very friendly and helpful staff - they’ll book parking for you while you stop your car at the door - complimentary still and sparkling water, comfy beds, lovely breakfast (I recommend the croissants and jam!) and generally a nice feel to the place.
Small attractive hotel in an old building near the Cathedral. Get ready for low doorways. Pristine clean and comfortable room. Above average breakfast. Helpful and polite staff. Public parking at Queningate is a few minutes walk. Highly recommended.
This hotel is lovely, very old and quirky. The hotel staff are really friendly and I am totally grateful to them. I was due to stay on a Saturday night but double booked myself. I wasn’t able to change it through Bookings.com as it was non transferable and I couldn’t cancel and get my money back. I contacted the hotel directly and they allowed me to stay on the Friday instead. Breakfast was included and a really good standard. The fruit salad was particularly good and there was freshly baked croissants, toast, jams, yoghurts. We had a window seat overlooking Butter Square. Our room overlooked the square and yes it was a bit noisy but you are in the heart of the hassle and bustle of Canterbury and we really didn’t mind. The room was spotless, nice toiletries provided and plenty of tea and coffee. All in all a friendly, welcoming hotel.
The hotel on this site has welcomed travellers and pilgrims to Canterbury for 1000 years, and the present building is 500 years old. The floors slope in all directions and the higgeldy-piggeldy layout almost needs a trail of breadcrumbs to find your way to your room. But the rooms are comfortable, clean and quiet with modern bathrooms and the welcome is warm. We had a very quiet room at the back with a spectacular view of the cathedral. There are lovely common rooms and a cosy bar to congregate in. Breakfast was excellent with fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, toast and very good coffee. Staff were charming, friendly, helpful and professional. Highly recommended. I would happily stay here again.
Good room, spacious and comfortable, with view to market square, good bed and close to city center, 55GBP for an individual, Will Come back if Canterbury is in my itinerary, breakfast at room if you want
You couldn't want want for a more immersive historical backdrop to visiting classic Canterbury than to base your stay here; a genuinely quaint establishment in the heart of the old town immediately adjacent to the Cathedral Gate entrance. It was a pleasure to experience the off-beat corridor layout and varying degrees of uneven floors, windows, walls, and well conserved features of a listed building with a provenance dating back to 1438. This independently run mid price-range hotel successfully manages reasonable visitor comforts and convenience, including an evening bar, without undue compromise to its ancient integrity and a thankful absence of pastichery or tacky replication of England past. Our worry that the 'continental' breakfast might be an intrusion of corporate buffet blandness was entirely misplaced … delicious individually prepared fruit salads, excellent yoghurt, warm and flavoursome croissants … plus a lovely view of the cobbled square below. A delight.
Situated next to the entrance to the cathedral this hotel is an absolute treasure Once you have negotiated the route to the hotel and put the car in the local car park everything is perfect .Very friendly staff throughout our stay, clean and comfortable room and the option of a full English breakfast. Enjoyed our stay immensely would thoroughly recommend.
Beautiful location, our room had a perfect view of the cathedral. We had a nice double room with bathroom, it was quiet and peaceful. You got a free continental Breakfast which we had sent to the room for free, we also brought a single cooked breakfast which was enough for two people with small appetites especially as we still had the free continental breakfast too! Lovely staff all friendly, who even kindly told us we could keep our bags in reception before booking in at 3pm. The hotel is literally on the gate to the cathedral and personally i think that is a winner. You are smack bang in the main hub, so you are ideally located to explore the city and go to restaurants and pubs. Fyi seen some negative nellies on here bemoaning about the stairs and walking over a roof top terrace to get to some rooms, well i say shut up! It causes zero problems to your stay. Highly recommend.
I booked a single room without en-suite for a night in Canterbury and it was a very reasonable price. I asked for - and got - a room with a cathedral view, so perfect. I followed the hotel's excellent instructions to the public parking outside the city wall. Nearly came unstuck here because there were no spaces, but on a second loop around some people were leaving: phew! The hotel is literally next to the Cathedral's main gate: up some stairs to receiption, then my room was over a rooftop and into another building, then up some stairs. The floor wasn't quite level, as you'd expect from such an old building, but the room was well-appointed and comfortable. The only thing really missing was a sink in the room (I think some of the non en-suite singles have them, looking at photos). The lighting was good, as was the heating (the weather was terrible: cold and tipping down with rain). The bathroom was cold until I turned on the towel rail: much better after that. It was right by my room, and very clean. It seemed to be only shared by 2 or 3 rooms, which was handy. I slept very well and my breakfast was delivered to my room in the morning for no extra charge (maybe because of limited breakfast space in the dining room). I loved this! Felt like a much fancier place - and the breakfast itself was large and enjoyable. Overall, highly recommended and the single with shared facilities was a fantastic deal for the money.
perfectly located next to the cathedral gate right in the town centre, room very quiet and comfortable, delicious breakfast, prefential price for car park and very helpful staff - enjoyed very much our stay
