We were there just this past week in February 2018, I rented three rooms- all superior suites- ocean views. Other than the staff turning the air-conditioning to the ice setting each day when they cleaned, everything was wonderful. They are really all about the jet tubs here which we never use really. The upper hallways were really hot during the day and they could use air-conditioning in the elevators. The food was good-not fantastic but a lot of variety. We ate at the Italian and the Mexican specialty restaurant and the Italian was very good, all other days in LAS OLAS which was the main breakfast and lunch area. The shows, activities by the pool, staff, were all friendly and great. Need help in the restaurants- see Ricardo he was very good!

I have mixed feelings this second time at the Riu. The staff is amazing. Food quality has gone down. And I had an incident 3 days on a row with another guest knocking on my door. I reported first day to security and obviously nothing was done since he kept bothering me. The Italian restaurant used to be good, not any more, food under cooked. On the other hand I was very happy with all the servers. The beach cabana boy "Cruz" is the best!!!

My 15th anniversary (marriage) was wonderful. The room decoration for this occasion was great.

Great service! Everything is so clean, employees are very helpful and generous !

Cons :Rooms have beds that are very uncomfortable with springs collapsing on the sides. Very noisy, loud music from live performance can be heard in the room until 11:30 PM, Bring ear plugs. Jacuzzi location not ideal. Water closet has no exhaust. Air Conditioning did not work well, the rooms were not cooling down as you would expect. Towel Card system at the pool is ridiculous.Ocean beach is rocky and dirty with weeds. Buffet food is generally bland, it maybe great if you like bland mild food. Specialty restaurants caused us more aggravation than needed, with no reservation policy. When planning occasions for large groups, they cannot accommodate you. Pros : Clean rooms. Lots of food, Great pools.

With a large group of about 20 people in our group, we found it inconvenient especially at the dining facilities. There is no provision to make reservations which makes it very hard for groups for anyone. The staff is struggling to handle the rush dining hours and often times unresponsive or rude which the dining experience a bitter one. Food quality in general is just ok, and wines are way below par. Most of the service staff are pleasant and courteous, but some could use customer service training especially in the specialty dining and at the front desk.

Room: tub in middle of room; no exhaust in toilet; no lock for shower; double bed is small for 2 people even if one kid and adult; mattress is saggy. The 4 restaurants are very small; no reservations - first come first serve. Food quality is bad and repeated same menu everyday - so all inclusive part was not so great. The towel card system is ridiculous. Exchanging card for towel was cumbersome and inconvenient. Given the experience we had, will not recommend to anyone with kids.

Not many activities at the resort, Bedding is bad, no entertainment for kids.

Fantastic. Only con is the extra loud nighttime animation right below our room, every night. Maybe better soundproofing? Otherwise, excellent all around.

The hotel was very nice. Clean, bright, and modern. The staff was great. There was a variety of food. We found the Japanese restaurant to be our favorite. The music was pretty loud at night, but I guess that’s to be expected. Not much of a beach here, but the multiple pools made up for it.

The beds were extremely uncomfortable. The blankets were old and itchy. The resort is small. Not much to do. They spoke mostly spanish during the activity/theater nights, which we didnt understand. Buffet was good. Speciality restaurants were okay. Resort is very well maintained. Staff is very friendly. Would have been nice if there was more activities to do on the resort.

We were there during Thanksgiving week and enjoyed a great family vacation. Location was great. The beach is awesome for the kids. The food was delicious and the staff goes above and beyond. The entertainment staff works hard all day and night.

I loved staying at this hotel; it's the best all inclusive I have experienced. It has 4 different styles restaurants for dinner (Italian, Mexican, Japanese, and more formal). In addition there is buffet restaurant where breakfast had choices for anybody likes and had gala dinner one night with Thanksgiving dinner and also great seafood selection and amazing desserts. Hotel also has various pools and really nice private beach with palm trees and chairs. It also offered night entertainment shows. Just overall great experience! Would definitely recommend! And all the stuff was super nice and friendly.

The hotel is amazing from the moment you walk into the lobby. The high, colour decorative ceiling gives a grand effect. The desk staff were super friendly. However, once we received our keys and go into the room we find it is being painted on the deck and is completely dirty. We go back down to the desk and are told there are no other rooms in our area available. ( OV jacuzzi suite) they put us into a superiour suite until the next day. I let it go bc it’s the first night and we just wanted to get settled. Plus, I thought they might give a fruit basket bc it was an extra $100 a night for the room I booked. (Didn’t happen) Anyways, the rest of the trip was excellent in the hotel. The grounds are very well kept. The hotel was super clean. The pools were all very nice. The nightly entertainment was terrific. It changed every night and the shows were great for all ages. The food in the buffet was amazing every time we went. The selection was superb. Even a fussy eater would have a hard time to complain. The steak house was the best of all the restaurants. I want to send a huge “salute” to Salvadore. He took care of our needs every morning and at a couple restaurants. He was excellent at making us feel at home and so friendly. All in all, we will go back and will bring the kids this bc of the grounds and staff made it so family friendly inviting as well.

The staff were the best part of the hotel. Super friendly and accommodating. Food was great too. Wasn't a huge fan of the Japanese restaurant and didn't go to the Mexican one but the rest were great. Only downside was the beach. It's super choppy all the time. Wasn't too fun to be in

We had to move out after one night, although we planned a 3-day stay.

Food was excellent, hotel was clean and service was great.

We stayed at the Riu Peninsula as a family of 6 (Had my parents accompanying us) and the experience was wonderful. Service was perfect and the staff adequate to attend every need of ours. The resort has enough options in food and drinks so people can plan a longer vacation of 5 to 7 days and not get bored with an all inclusive package. Our only two points that we would like to suggest are: the specialty restaurants - Las tamale, Japanese and Venicia were not really special. the food was still the same as that being served outside at Las Olas. Sushi's were thin and it was clear that the fish that was served in the morning was being used to create these later in the evening. Now I am not saying that it wasn't good, but for having a specialty restaurant - it can be made better. Secondly this hotel does not have too many things for kids. They might have one hour a day activity but other than than - ZILCH. I have heard that the other Riu is more kids friendly. Do note that if your kids are a bit older, the beach and the 4 pools will suffice - but for younger kids there is an issue. Overall 4.5 Stars.

The overall stay was good. Booked for a king bed. Front desk told me two double beds. Asked for a king at the desk, clerk said there was one available. It was not. it was two double beds, (tipped front desk clerk). This is definitely a pool resort. Short beach to walk and not deep. However, plenty of chairs on the beach. Staff was not overly friendly. However, if asked, the staff did accommodate for the most part. Food was great. Variety of dinners was excellent and of good taste.

Someone entered into our room while we weren't there and stole my professional work camera out of my pocketbook. Found it extremely strange that ALL of our clothes, shoes, luggage, was moved around but didn't realized until a day later that my camera was missing. I called the front desk as soon as i realized it was missing, they basically told me it'll take "24 hrs for investigation" then switched it to "48hrs" then told me that is was basically impossible for someone to steal it basically calling me a liar. Told me that i'm the 1 out of 1,000s of people that this happens to but then later on told me that they can't do anything about it because "imagine how many people can say they are missing stuff " it ruined my last 2 days in cancun. I was extremely upset that someone could have done that and on top of that, that the hotel management wasn't helping me in anyway just making things worst.
