We were pleasantly surprised to find, on short notice, very clean, comfortable, spacious and amazingly welcoming accommodation for us and our Golden Retriever at Mercure Canberra. The room, which included tiled flooring, was large and spotlessly clean. It included a fully fenced yard area (with shady tree) and a sheltered (and gated) patio outside the room. A dog bed, bowl, plastic bags for clean up and a toy were all provided. Our dog (on leash) was allowed access to all public areas of the Hotel except the restaurant. We had no problem eating in a separate indoor area outside the restaurant or in the adjoining outdoor area. The room included everything we needed for an overnight stay and our bed was really comfortable. Our meals from the on site restaurant were generous and delicious, as was the continental breakfast included in the Pet Package. Staff actively acknowledged our dog as a welcomed guest and at no time did we feel uncomfortable about having her in a hotel environment. She would have been very happy to move in permanently as Mercure Canberra's mascot! Thank you for such an enjoyable and relaxed stay. Patrick & Theresa Dorahy
We were very lucky to get a great deal on the Mecure in Canberra well before we left but would happily stay there again regardless. The staff were excellent; the room very comfortable and had the lovely benefit of having a tiny balcony where we could enjoy fresh air or a quiet night cap; it was located within a 10 minute walk into town or the War memorial and the breakfast selection was very good for Coeliacs. We travelled late Dec'17 and stayed a few days into Jan '18 a quiet'ish time in Canberra as the pollies are on holidays!
This is a return visit for us. Love it the first time and wasnt dissapointed on e second. The only thing I can complain about was this time we were charged for parking. The only warning of a perking fee was 10 cm square note attached to the reveption computer. I also believe that tbix hotel is dog friendly as a number of guest nad dogs.
Fantastic hotel for family's, the staff very very friendly and went out of their way to assist us as much as they could. The Loft room was fantastic and enough room and the kitchenette and large dinner table made it easy to get the kids fed in the morning. Having a Pub and Bottle shop attached also made everything so easy. We were there 30 December to 01 Jan 2018 and there were no hallway noise or people banging doors coming back after the midnight celebrations. Fantastic Hotel with so much old time charm worth staying there
I sort a week end get away, a country style and feel, clean home comfort accommodation, a location close to the war memorial, parliament, lake and other key Canberra attractions. Mercure Canberra [cnr Ainslie & Lime, Braddon, 2612] ticked most of these boxes. Room - we got a '2 bedroom suite' in the 'old' part of the establishment at the front of the hotel fro AUD 242. Bedding was comfortable and bathroom was newly renovated and clean. The room was quiet enough but I would recommend a room at the back of the hotel with the court yard / garden access. This is the newer pat of the hotel and provides a pleasant walk to the main building restaurant area. Dinner - the restaurant was excellent. Food and wine for 3 course meal for AUD 74 each was great value for the quality we enjoyed. I stayed at thee hotel and I typically err on eating out of hotels for dinner but there is NO need to go out of the hotel with the menu provided. Give it a go - you won’t be disappointed. TIP - book for dinner because dinner tables are limited. Breakfast - this doubles up as the breakfast restaurant for the hotel. Again serving a good spread for breakfast. No need to go anywhere else for breakfast either. Reception - extremely friendly and helpful with suggestions for sight seeing and getting around. Other facilities - Bar - there is a bit of a bottle shop / general bar establishment attached to the hotel. I was happy it was separate enough from the hotel environment because I felt the bar detracted from the otherwise quaint hotel environment. Parking - there is limited parking at the front of the hotel [free] and plentiful at the back of the hotel where there is a AUD 10 charge. REALLY??? That is a wrought. How does the hotel justify this one on top of an already relatively expensive accommodation? Mercure need to look at this and swallow this cost on behalf of its patrons.
Lovely old hotel with great staff that was a pleasure to stay in. Room was very clean and modern, great bathroom. The courtyard is really beautiful. Easy car parking at the back of the hotel and very reasonably priced
This would be about the 5th time we have stayed at this hotel. Reason - convenient location. Ability to us the accor card for meals in the restaurant and the attached pub. Parking is outside in a gated car park . Check in is smooth as well as fast check out. The rooms are lovely - my suggestion book the loft room - very spacious and has a small kitchenette with microwave and sink with cutlery. Service is great. We like the location because its not in the main city area but only a 10 minute leisurely walk to the main plaza area. Its also a short walking distance to the war memorial.
Mercure at Canberra is a favourite for us. In a quiet was ever so convenient location. Walk to War memorial, drive everywhere in minutes. Built in 1920's but modern...just classy and comfortable. The "pub" meals are economical and so good! And the first visit on the weekend with our 8 YO grandson Eric who has travelled Qantas business class, dined in Paris and Hong Kong, cruised the Pacific was....this is "fancy". Micky from Manly
The hotel is situated in a quiet residential street 5 minutes from the city centre about 1 km from the war memorial. It has some parking at the front and a large car park at the rear. Although the building is 90 years old, the facilities are modern and comfortable with new bathrooms, silent and efficient heating and cooling, large comfortable beds, internet, and lounges and desks. The hotel has large comfortable lounges with large fireplaces, and a large bar which sells food at reasonable prices. Because I have an Accor membership I had booked online so when I arrived the check in took only seconds, my room had been upgraded for free, and I received vouchers for 2 complementary drinks. On entering my room I was pleasantly surprised to find a complementary bottle of wine on ice waiting for me with a note thanking me for visiting for the tenth time, all this for only $25 more than the shoebox sized budget hotel, 10 minutes down the road. Great value! A great place to stay, modern and comfortable and relaxed with old world charm.
Rooms were lovely old style with grand chairs/lounges, I beautiful stair case to the bedroom and bathroom -which were very clean -two tvs and two air cons (helped cool the from form the 30+heat!) in site restaurant was great for breakfast -didn’t eat there for dinner. Staff very friendly and helpful! Excellent service. The only thing that was a downer was the paid parking. But I guess it’s hard to get free parking these days.
