We billeted in this hotel last December when we attended our family's Christmas reunion. The receptionist was polite and explained how we can find our room which is at the back of the building. Good thing there is an ample parking. Our room is on the second floor and it is big enough with own bathroom. First floor we had lounge room, TV, dining room and a small kitchen. It's just luxury for us. Downside, the restaurant needs to add more dishes on their menus. Location is great. Ohh , i love those vintage type writer being displayed near to the entrance of the restaurant. It's a pleasant stay indeed.
Just spent the weekend at the Mercure as Gold Accor members. We wont be back. Went down for dinner and was told to wait for half an hour as the restaurant was too busy. No worried, got ourselves a glass of wine and tried to sit in the pre dining area to wait, but every table was filled with dirty plates so had to retreat to the reception area. Eventually got to dinner and selected the duck. After trying to saw through it with a steak knife I gave up and left it. Would have complained but there was only one very irritated waitress racing around ignoring everybody. That night and for the rest of the weekend I had massive food poisoning. Following morning at breakfast there were no staff, everybody complaining that there was no butter, no whole grain bread, no staff around, just a shambles. Tables and floor very sticky. Dirty knives and forks. A real lack of hygiene. At reception when I mentioned the shocking meal, she just could not have cared less. In fact she said that we should have got up from the table, left the dining room and waited in reception to complain. Very curious suggestion.
On arrival our room was ready and to our delight we were upgraded to a loft room. Great location in this historic old hotel. The service and staff were prompt and helpful. A great night in the Mecure.
Everything about our stay was perfect. The staff were lovely and helpful. The restaurant manager allowed us to look at the seafood buffet to see if wed like to book the next night. The bistro food was lovely as was breakfast and the seafood night. Reception staff were friendly and helpful.
Love this place 2nd time we have stayed here. Central to everything. Room very comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful. All amenities on site, restaurant or hotel bistro and bar so you have a choice. If you just want to relax you really don't have to go anywhere. Food excellent and live entertainment on Friday night. To our delight we were upgraded to a loft room. Look forward to our next visit.
I wanted to be close to both the CBD and the Australian War Memorial, the Mercure fitted this bill. 12 minutes leisurely walk to both locations. The hotel is one of the oldest in Canberra but is not a relic, bright clean and welcoming.
I stayed 3 nights at this hotel while attending a conference. I found the staff were very friendly and attentive and my accommodation comfortable. While the property is quite old, it has some charm and interesting history and my room was cosy and comfortable. The hotel is a pleasant 10 minute walk to the centre of Canberra shopping precinct.
This is a great hotel-one of the best Mercures in Australia and we have stayed in a number. Built in 1927, charming old hotel that has been well maintained since. Lovely courtyard gardens and spacious, comfortable rooms. Some steps and long corridors but not big issues. Good location, 3-4 minutes by car to the Australian War Memorial and Canberra's CBD, walk to both if you are energetic. Very quiet. Above average hotel restaurant. Cheerful, helpful staff. By accident more than design we had a great room rate @$150 per night with a very good buffet breakfast @ $1 each. Would have been happy to pay more, already planning our return. If are thinking of visiting Canberra check their website and time your visit.
Excellent personal service. VG food and beverage. The service from staff was excellent. Good selection for breakfast. Nice large room with updated bathroom and beautiful private patio. Certainly will recommend.
