Plan your weekend trip to Canada

Day 1 Morning: Granville Island and Gastown

  • Start the first day of your Canada vacation with a visit to artsy Granville Island, home to a public market where you’ll find shops showcasing local art, clothing and specialty foods—and even a kid’s market
  • Take a 50-minute walk (or 30-minute bus ride) over to Gastown, the oldest part of Vancouver. Enjoy a lunch in one of the chic eateries or check out some of the trendy boutiques
  • While in Gastown, get a bird’s-eye view of Vancouver from the top of the Harbour Centre

Where to stay: Stay in Downtown Vancouver to be close to everything you might need. Hotels here include the luxurious Fairmont Pacific Rim with its full-service spa and rooms with harbor or city views, or a budget-friendly option like The Burrard, which offers free Wi-Fi and free bike rentals. You can also save money by booking your hotel and flights together in one of our Canada package deals.

Transportation: Getting around Vancouver is easy. The compact downtown area is walkable and public transportation by bus is excellent. There’s also a bike-share system.

Day 1 Afternoon: Stanley Park

  • You can rent a bike in West End, the neighborhood right next to Stanley Park, or use the bike-share system
  • Cycle (or walk) the 6-mile Seawall, a circular route that will take you past monuments, sculptures and stunning views
  • Stop at Prospect Point for views of the North Shore Mountains and Lions Gate Bridge
  • Visit the Brockton Point Totem Poles

Day 1 Evening

Stay in the West End neighborhood for something to eat on your first evening in Vancouver. There are many bars, restaurants and cafes to choose from, so follow your nose or ask a friendly local for advice. Here are a few of our recommendations for your Canada itinerary:

  • Go on a self-guided walking food tour or craft beer tour (or both!)
  • See live music at the Commodore Ballroom
  • Catch a sports game at BC Place Stadium

Day 2: Daytrip to Whistler

The trip to Whistler follows the Sea-to-Sky Highway. With so much stunning scenery along the way, the 2-hour journey will fly by. Whistler resort is open year-round and has plenty of attractions to fill your weekend getaway in Canada.

  • If you’re arriving in winter, spend the afternoon on the slopes using a day ski pass to brush up on your skiing or snowboarding technique
  • In summer, walk from Whistler Village along some of the 25-mile Valley Trail, a car-free network that will take you to lakes and viewpoints
  • Take a ride on the PEAK 2 PEAK 360 Experience, a glass-bottom gondola connecting Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, open year-round

Transportation: Shuttle buses to and from Whistler can include a pick-up from your hotel but be sure to check with the operator before reserving your seat.
