This hotel is well situated for the restaurants and shops in and around the Esplanade but it has the potential to be so much better! The breakfast room is very small and can be quite noisy when half full. The breakfast choice was average (continental and cooked breakfast) but nothing special. There was no luggage rack in the rooms which SHOULD BE STANDARD (but doesn't seem to be in Australia). There was a huge 50" flat screen in the room which was not needed at all, as the wifi was dreadful! We would have preferred no tv but decent wifi. Even though we were on the ground floor and quite close to reception, signal strength was poor. There is a swimming pool but not many sun loungers. Air conditioning and fan were in the bedrooms which is a must as Cairns is tropical.
Not sure how this hotel got a 4 star rating. Would not recommend if you are expecting 4 star quality. The bathrooms were filthy. The grout in the shower was disgusting (and in the rest of the bathroom as well). There were only 2 flat sheets on the bed. Nasty brown blankets in the closet could be used, but they were pilled, old, and off putting. We definitely did not feel comfortable in this hotel
-Bathroom grout disgusting. -ants around bathroom sink and in floor next to bed. - picture on wall with what appears to be blood smears - No coffee in room. In fact it’s $3 a cup in the lobby - No comforter on bed or duvet - just sheets. In wardrobe were 2 old looking brown blankets with satin trim - the kind my grandmother had 20 years ago. -Room cleaning service didn’t include sweeping up the hands full of hair in the floor or even wiping down the sink. - no lift!!!! Had surgery on my knee 3 month ago and having a room on the second floor was not fun. - Never in my life would I call this a 4 star hotel. My summer camp room was nicer, cleaner and had more amenities. At least at camp I was not afraid to swim in the pool!
Great hotel close to the centre and the esplanade of Cairns. The room and bathroom were clean and the bed was huge and comfortable. I would recommend this hotel for people who would like to stay for a couple of days in Cairns and want to be near the centre. We took a taxi from the airport to the hotel and it took about 30 minutes.
A slightly dated but clean, well managed place to stay in a great location for exploring Cairns. Good facilities and very helpful staff. Will definitely stay there if we ever go to Cairns again. Good choice of continental or cooked breakfast in downstairs dining area. All necessary facilities including luggage storage area if travelling elsewhere and returning. Easy walking distance to main dining area and marina. Wife and I greatly enjoyed our stay.
Very conveniently located close to the hospital , esplanade and not far from all the restaurants. The rooms are a bit small for a long stay but for a weekend very good. The rooms are clean and tidy, the pool is great. Downstairs there is a great little place for breakfast which is awesome. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Thanks guys we will stay again .
From lugging our suitcases up 3 flights, then back down cause the card didn't work, back up, then back down cause they changed our room, not the card, but didn't tell us that, the cramped room (you can't access the wardrobe as the couch is pushed against the front of it) , horrible horrible shower with long black hairs all over floor and a miss matched tv/remote (different brands) meant you couldn't work the damn thing, no channels tuned & no way to change source for usb. Lastly, internet is slooow, if you need wifi, forget it!
Arrived at the Hotel very early, around 6:30. We were allowed to take a shower and store our luggage in a storage area. We came from Chicago so we had been traveling over 20 hrs.. The shower was a life saver. The staff was so nice and professional. The rooms were very clean and the location was great. We were able to walk to the train to get to where we wanted to go. We were at a great location for restaurants. All kinds of great food. The Wi-Fi worked great. We stayed for 4 days and there were no complaints. Would stay here again. Loved it!!
HOLD Members from Darwin was summoned to attend HOLD Oceania Conference, in Cairns as from: 29, 30 Sept & 1 Oct. Airfares, accommodation, and venue was arranged for us. Just carry on luggage & ourself. On a Friday, 29 Sept I travelled with my 3 Sister in Christ (HOLD members) for 3 days. We arrived in Cairns on Friday, 29 Sept until the duration of the Conference on Sunday 1 Oct. Our accommodation was funded by the Conference organiser up for 3 days only, but we were expected to be extended by conference coordinator for extra day due to our flight schedule on Monday 2 Oct not 1 Oct after the conference finished at midday today. Apparently, communication breakdown between HOLD Coordinator, HOLD Members and the Conference Coordinator regarding accommodation extension, as the Coordinator of HOLD expected someone will accommodate us after we check out from the Hotel ( Sunday, 1 Oct). However, we had an enjoyable evening that night (last Fellowship Night, 30 Sept ) after the event we came home to our hotel knowing everything sorted prior to check out date. However, when we found out that the person who will accommodate us 4 was unknown to us/ HOLD Coordinator, Cairns. So we all take the initiative (us 3 members) to pay our own room rather then asking for help/ assistance to accommodate us 4. The Hotel was accommodating to our demand : We have to Change the check out time/ date, breakfast also included to extend, and arrange a taxi pick up from Hotel to Airport (approx 15 mins), the receptionist suggested to take a taxi instead of public transport due to booking requirement in advance while taxi can be arrange at the concierge (hour before check out/ a day ahead). We all happy with arranged changes on our checkout tomorrow is schedule to Depart Cairns at 9am. So we have our early breakfast & checkout at 7am. Everything sorted & happy. Best place to stay, staff services was excellent. Hotel Facilities & amenities very convenient. Thank you, Coral Tree Inn.
Location was the important factor for me, and it was an easy walk into town, the shopping mall, esplanade and restaurants. My room was at the back of the hotel and at the end of the corridor, so if I'd contemplated spending time sitting out on my balcony I would have been disappointed. There are poolside loungers or chairs in the shade if you do want to spend time around the hotel. I had 2 issues really. The wifi was not reliable, perhaps because my room was furthest from reception. I returned to the hotel a second time from Port Douglas, as I had an early flight the next morning. My room was upstairs and there is no lift. I thought of leaving my case downstairs and just taking what I needed for the night, but the reception area, including the luggage store, is locked until after I had to leave. I struggled in the morning (I am 71) to get 4 week's worth of luggage downstairs.
