St. George Residence All Suite Hotel Deluxe5.0 out of 5.0

The cleaning in the room was absolutely shocking as was the breakfast and the service! When I told them about it all she could do was shrug! Shame for the amount of money paid and the wonderful building and surroundings.
We absolutely loved staying at the St George Residence. On arrival, we were informed that we would have to change rooms for our last night, as they had a wedding party coming in, who had booked out the entire hotel. We were offered an upgrade to a suite for the first 2 nights, and then the attic room for the last night. The suite was beautiful and had amazing paintings and marble sculptures throughout. Needless to say, we would have loved to remain there for the entire time, however, the attic room turned out to be wonderful too! It was HUGE and had windows on each side of the room so we had morning and evening sun. Yes, we did have to get our cases up quite a few stairs, but we loved the fact that we had an entire floor to ourselves, and the other guests would never have guessed we were even there. We were also offered free breakfasts for the inconvenience of moving. The only downside of staying here is no proper shower (just a claw-foot bath and a shower head you had to hold), but I believe other rooms do have showers available. Buda itself is beautiful and very old worlde, quite different from Pest. There is a number 16 bus every 5 mins or so that takes you down to Pest for a minimal fee, or a taxi will take you down for 3000 forint. All in all a wonderful stay in a charming part of Hungary - we'd love to come back.
Looks good from the outside. Nice, quiet courtyard for a meal. Food was adequate but nothing special. They would not serve tap water despite 30 deg temperatures. I hate this blatant way of selling you bottled water. When it came to pay, we could not believe a 5 star rated hotel would not take a credit card. They overcharged on the bill, quickly corrected. Paid with cash and left rather disappointed.
From the outside, this looked like a cosy hotel bar. Once inside, it was a little strange, as we had to sit at a table that felt like we were in the breakfast area. Service was pleasant and the drinks were okay, but it wasn't really the experience we were looking for.
very nice location - castle district plenty of interesting places close to the hotel if a room faces the street - opening the window in the evening is out of question - too loud, also you can hear people walking and talking if close to the door the mattres was not very comfy the restaurant- goulash soup was so so, hardly any meat in it and generally not reach it was very strange when I asked for coffee in the morning, got it served in the patio, machiato was served cold... when I asked for a regular machiato my coffee was warmed up... got it so hot then that it was impossible to drink... I was not charged for this but experience was not so good very kind and helpful reception staff
Just returned from a 3 day 4 night stay, and it was just perfect. The Hotel itself as others have pointed out, in the Buda Castle district, right near the old cathedral. The district is clean, safe, seems to be slowly being restored, and is filled with stately buildings and history. Its a very chill, casual environment in general. Not overrun with hordes of tourists. But this is a review of the hotel, and the St George is probably one of the most wonderful individual hotel experiences we've had over many years and hundreds of hotels. Our rooms were spotless, spacious, and well appointed. Counter to most European specialty hotels, besides there being ample space, there's also plenty of surface area to put your belongings, which was great. Breakfast was fine, traditional fare. We had them do some laundry for us, and it was done well in a timely fashion. The staff was great, Hungarians who know their city and culture, and were very helpful and honest. They helped us navigate the awful taxi problem too, so that was really appreciated. For us it was an ideal experience. Many "boutiques" are so maniacally focused on style they forget the substance, but the St George is incredibly substantive in a beautiful and homey way. Would return there in a heartbeat. I think its actually under-priced.... The only things worth noting is the showers are handheld, and the AC mostly works.
Large, beautifully furnished suite, located off of a peaceful courtyard. Good Value for the comfort and location. Efficient helpful staff. Close to bus stops aND MAny good restaurants. Located in the historic castle area with museums, cathedrals and other attractions.
St George's in out of the beaten path of the downtown late night district, and easy enough to get to and from there. My friend and I stayed here 5 nights and trekked all over the city and slept like rocks here! The historic building has a lot of character. If you're a walker, I highly recommend staying here. It's a 20 minute walk +/- to the Danube, and it's on the same side of the Danube as at least 3 baths and the entire Castel District. We came back on the late night end of things a couple nights and felt super safe and welcome. There's a breakfast place across the street that I recommend over the one that St. George's offers- that is my only feedback that the breakfast didn't look compelling at all, but across the street was delicious!
Before two weeks I was in St. George. When I'm in Budapest I sleep in this hotel more than 10 years and I was very satisfied until my last visit. My last visit was two years ago and I found many changes in the bad sense. The worst part was that the room was very dirty. There were hairs in the bathroom and in the bed. Most lights are not working in the room and in the hotel. Everything seemed not maintained which is a shame for this beautiful hotel. For sure that was my last visit there.
Very nice, quiet, safe accomodations in the Castle District of Buda. You will feel like you're staying in a palace. Keep in mind that that these are suites ... so it's kind of like a palatial version of Marriott Residence. The living room is far larger than the bedroom, and includes a sink, small refrigerator and microwave oven. The ceilings are high. I wouldn't call the rooms cozy, but they do provide a genuine feeling of living in a stately Budapest residence. The staff were extremely helpful on a number of matters.
