We were sightseeing and wanted something more than a pizza or usual street fare for lunch and we found this wonderful traditional hotel, very near the palace. At the back there is a delightful quiet courtyard where we enjoyed a relaxing lunch in the shade. There is a good menu , much more extensive than the limited menus on street cafes. And the service was both friendly and efficient. Overall, we had a very good impression and I expect this is a lovely place to stay as well.
We were four couples on our way to a river cruise but wanting a few days in Budapest to get a little bit of Hungarian history, culture and food. The St. George Residence was booked by our agent. We liked the huge suites, the kitchenette, the courtyard and big bathrooms. We had a terrific goulash soup, had 20% off as we were staying. The towels were a bit thin. The pillows were useless. The bedroom TV in our and other suites did not work and, for the physically challenged, there are no elevators (just wide staircase with no rails) and no one waiting to help carry the luggage up to the rooms. If you need help, ask for it. The person in the lobby never informed us of what was available. He was helpful but only when you asked for help. The location is just 5 minutes from St. Matthias church and Fishermen Bastion. If we come back to Budapest, we will stay on the Pest side where there is more action and it is flatter for walking. This is not the Hilton. It is small and exclusive and very historic.
Not sure what has happened to the reviews of the restaurant that we found before we visited, but they were all very poor. However we still went there and were very pleasantly surprised. The three course meal for £9 was excellent value, very enjoyable. Service was excellent and our waitress Ester was most attentive , providing my wife with gluten free options for the main course and dessert. I promised her I would put the record straight - so Ester here it is.
My husband and I stayed in this hotel after we came off the orient express and we were so glad we did it was a very beautiful hotel and the staff were very frendly and extremely helpful in very thing. The food was very good and the room was spotless, We would diffently stay again. E patterson Northern Ireland
The place is beautiful and the location killer, but Cold War attitudes and mismanagement ruin the experience. You have to ask three times to get anything done; they intentionally overcharge, and running a restaurant in the courtyard destroys privacy. The boss has a nasty attitude straight out of 1970, and there is no bathtub.
We had been here six years previous, so booked here again prior to our Danube River cruise. This area is very popular amongst tourists, as it is near the castle as well as fishermans bastion and other scenic areas. The rooms are clean and spacious. Staff is very friendly. The free welcome drink was also much appreciated.
Perfect location and very classic, elegant architect (several hundred years old building) and nicely kept. It's kind like live in a castle. The living room has gorgeous furnitures and some other well kept antiques. Could not ask to stay a better place in Budapest. I surely will stay here again if I ever revisit Budapest in the future.
Amazing property. Wonderful location! Huge rooms. I was a bit mindful of potentially poor service, having read few of the reviews below, but I think we got lucky! No problems at all. Nice choice of restaurants in the area. Some of the best panoramic views in town too of course! Would definitely stay again.
Fabulous hotel/apartment in the Castle district which is like a fairy tale! Beautiful views with the Royal Palace, the Fisher mans Bastion and lovely pubs/restaurants walking distance away. The Matthias church is a "must see" you can buy your entrance tickets at the side, well worth it!
My family and I just returned from a 3 day trip to beautiful Budapest. The hotel's location is fantastic and the building's architecture is truly wonderful. The hotel would be amazing if they replaced the management and most of the staff. The staff were unnecessarily rude and had a general attitude of indifference. The rooms were ok, however the breakfast was very poor and most of the items on offer were stale. The hotel is a 5* hotel for its location and architecture but operates as a 2*. We would definitely go back to Budapest but would certainly not return to this hotel.
