NH Brussels Carrefour de l'Europe4.0 out of 5.0

The NH Carrefour de L'europe is a 4 start hotel thar hovers between 3 and 3.5 stars. Experience with staff is excellend. We had a tiny standard room at the first floor where it is really noisy due to the plaza in front of it. We got an upgrade that made a realy big difference. Still, after 11 people should think of their fellow hotel users. And that was something that kept on going till well after 00:00. State of hotel is ok but it could use some maintenance inside and out. Especially the bathrooms and entrance. Breakfast is great. Even goji and cranberries at the cereal table. Different juices, waffles, pancakes, different types of bread and more. Brussels on the other hand, in our humble opinion is getting run down. chinese pavilion has been closed for a long time, Atomium looks good but the surrounding area is depressing and dirty. So is much of Brussels. Many beggars, people down on their luck. Not very uplifting. Go when it's sunny and after the winter. It might be. Different experience. Prices have skyrocketed.2 ham cheese sandwiches (simple) and two beers 30 Euro... so be carefull. A good experince with one restaurant the Korean BBQ restaurant on Greepstraat 4. Reasonably priced, good food. We liked the squid dishes. Korean beer. The ginger icecream is vanilla ice with gingerpieces....not the real deal. Shame. Hotel staff thumbs up Room thumbs up (apart from a couple of things in the bathroom Ambiance. Noisy on the front and other hotel stayers.
I have been twice at this hotel. On the first occasion, everything was fine. A convenient location, very close to the Gare du Nord and in close proximity to central Brussels. This was a business trip and the hotel fulfilled its purpose. Decoration is a bit tired but there in room coffee/tea facilities, a desk and the bathroom is ok. My room faced the nice square on the main entrance and did not experience any noise at night. With this background, I made a reservation for a second visit several weeks later. Another business trip. Got a room in the same floor but facing the back of the hotel. The experience was completely different to my previous trip. At one o'clock in the night I woke up not knowing very well whether there was someone listening to the TV full power or what else. I opened the window and realized that the mess was coming from outside. People gather in the big square at the back of the hotel and you can hear them shouting and screaming. I phoned reception and from their response this was not news to them.i suggested to phone the police and the receptionist said he would call Them. The noise persisted for a long time and I simply fell asleep out of exhaustion. Very unpleasant experience and a rather expensive one for having the feeling of being trapped in a slum. I would really hesitate to come back to this hotel after my second trip. The location is excellent but does not compensate for the noise.
Booked for 2 nights. Stayed 1. Arrival - ok. Check in friendly enough. Reception bit bland but some lights out over reception desk. Just felt a lack of care and attention. Room - big bathroom but tile grout dirty in places. Did not feel clean. Bedroom - freezing cold. Windows do not fit properly. Finally got it to close and lock but still terrible draft. Room depressing, low light level, brown curtains, scruffy carpet. Felt grubby. Needs refurb or deep clean. Put heating on. Room still freezing. Called reception. Not very helpful. Worked for 2 hours in my coat as so cold. Called again. Got offered to move rooms to a "deluxe room". New room - heating pushed out some warm air but set on max at 35c and only warm if you sat directly under the vent. Still cold. Again windows not shut/fitting properly. Even when closed HUGE draft. Room equally drab and depressing and insufficient lighting. Wifi not bad. Pillows awful. Like sleeping on a brick. Small bathroom. Water in sink in morning came out brown. Hardly any hot water. Ran tap for ages and got slightly less brown tepid water. Shower a trickle of barely warm water. Same issue with cleanliness of tiles in bathroom. Wifi played up and kept going down. Breakfast - very good and charming server but served in the windowless basement. All I ask for in a hotel is to be clean, comfy, warm, have a good shower and reliable wifi. This hotel failed on all of the above. Avoid. So sad after such a good experience at the NH in Amsterdam. This experience means I'll avoid the NH chain in future. Dreadful experience so checked out and moved hotel which was a huge inconvenience and waste of my time when I was there for business.
Pros: Convenient Location, next to Brussels Central train station and on the Agora. We slept well. Cons: Dated property in need of renovation; not the 4 star business hotel it claims to be On the positive side, the hotel's location can't be beat - it's right by Brussels Central Station, and right on the Agora. Grand Place is just around the corner, and there are lots of restaurants. We slept well in their bed, which appeared to be newer than the rest of the room's furniture. On the downside, this property needs some maintenance and renovation. The room furniture is badly banged up (see photos). The paint is dirty, there's some wall damage in places, the bathroom tile grout has some mildew stains. Our minibar fridge did not work, and we suspected it had not worked in quite some time. Hair dryer is old and a bit anemic. Windows are a bit drafty and let in some street noise. So if you're looking for a great location, not too concerned about appearance and the NH Carrefour's price is right, this hotel could work - all the important basics (bed, shower) worked fine. But if you're after a 4 star business class hotel experience, I suggest looking elsewhere.
A nice hotel in the very center of the city near the central station (15 min from the airport). At ground floor a chocolaterie and a spellbound view from the rooms. The Grand Place and all the restaurants are a walk away
Very good location in the centre of Brussels if you want to visit Grand Place. A few minutes walk from Central Station. The hotel is pretty old and needs some refurbishment but everything in my room worked ok. Good shower and comfortable and clean bed. There were some stains on the floor mat in the bathroom which seemed to have been washed but were still quite visible and so not very inviting. The price per night is rather high given the standard of the accommodation but it does have 4 stars and is in the centre so.. The staff were quite friendly. All in all I would recommend the hotel based on my experience.
The hotel is located close to the Central Train Station and which is very convenient when coming in from the airport. It is also located in the very heart of Brussels, only a short walk from Grande Place (Grote Markt) which is one of the most beautiful squares in the World. The are many restaurants, bars, shops, cafés and waffle places in the close vicinty. A short walk and you will have reached a Brussels landmark, the Mannekin Pis. The staff at the hotel was very friendly and accomidating and contributed to us feeling very much at home away from home.
Everything worked out well, and I would recommend this hotel very highly, service excellent, great location, quiet room, and very flexible and accommodating staff. I am a regular visitor and will continue to be so.
The downside for us was this awful smell in the room which didn't go even after leaving the window open. Could do with a refurbish! Nice and close to Grand Place and you can see part of the architectural towers.
I booked this NH hotel because I like NH Hotels and was hoping that I wouldn't be disappointed. I was a little disappointed because of the condition of some furniture in a 4 star hotel. I chose this NH because of it's proximity to the Grand Place, Central Station and other Tourist spots. I was very pleased that I was upgraded to s Suite. ((See pictures of the City Views from the Suite)) There were some things that were not up to par with a Suite and a 4 Star hotel. There were no electrical plugs near the bed nor nightstands, only in the bathroom or at the desk in the other room. The desk Chair was missing an arm and no one changed it nor mentioned it... and mind you I was there for 5 nights. The mattress and pillows where a bit to hard compared to other NH Hotels. The Dining Room Bench had white tape covering a hole on a bench.(See Pictures) These three items were the only bad points. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Brussels and I hope to stay there again in the Future. The Free wifi was good and free. The Food was good too and the staff was knowledgeable about tours and restaurants in the area.
