I understand the hotel is to be closed and refurbished (july 17?). Staff were friendly and helpfull and we were quickly in our room which overlooked the main road and nearest square.Blinds/curtains and double glazing along with air conditioning allowed us to make ourselves comfortable. The bedroom was clean as was the shower room/toilet although everything seemed on the small side.Decor was dated.During our stay there we felt safe and comfortable.Breakfast was buffet with no hot dishes but set us up for the day.Around the hotel were many places to eat and drink and within easy walking was the older part of the city and with miles of the covered walkways (porticos) to shade us from the sun as we mooched along. If the price of staying in the updated hotel is reasonable I will try and stay there again as the location is superb.
This hotel is set close to the square and is close walking distance. The hotel is a old looking hotel with charector. There is a mcdonalds right next to the hotel for quick food whilst on the move. Nice place to stay.
The AC was broken while we were there, which made it very uncomfortable to sleep with the window open. The streets were so noisy. Room was old and dusty. Good location though but really uncomfortable stay
The Regina from the outside and foyer looks like a plush hotel, once staying however it becomes apparent that this is an average hotel useful for an overnight stop-over and not necessarily for a lengthy stay. The location is great for both the town and station, after negotiating the huge train station (especially if you are coming in on high speed from the lower levels), it can be reached in a 10 minute stroll by bearing left from the station drop off area, crossing the road, walking passed the Porta Galliera arch and continuing to your right along the via dell'indepenzza for four minutes before crossing the road to the hotel on the left. The main town squares can then be reached by continuing along the via dell'indepenzza for another 10 minute stroll. The rooms are functional, if a bit tired. We did not experience the smell and peeling wallpaper mentioned by other reviews, but could not find the a/c (either in the room on in the ensuite bathroom), which would likely be the cause of this. Whilst the main bedding was clean, however there was the sticky remanent of a sweet on the outer blanket suggesting they could have been cleaned better (it was obvious they had been cleaned, but lacking a little attention to detail). Internet access was also a bit of a pain to get onto, but once done worked a dream. Breakfast was a little disappointing with the option of sweet pastries or cereal and weak coffee. It was also a little hurried (not surprising given the small room it's held in), with my plate being cleared away whilst I was stood three metres away getting a second cup of coffee. Fortunately for something more substantial before we got on the road again there is a McDonalds next door. As a hotel it is a useful travel stop, but do not expect luxury and you will not be disappointed.
We had a very different experience than what other reviewers have had here. Our experience was only a positive one, save for the noise of the midnight revelers singing and chanting in the street below. First off, you can walk/bike/etc. to just about anywhere from here in less than 15 minutes, even the newer part of Bologna outside the city gates. Yes, the hotel is a little dated, but it also exudes European "Old World Charm". The bed was large, there were a good number of outlets, the room may be a bit small but, as travelers, we only need a decent bed and some decent storage space to be happy. We thought service was good, as one of the curtains over the large window fell down and was fixed immediately. We found the bathroom to be clean, modern looking with sweet black and white floor tiling, stylish, white wall tiles, and sweet box filled with nail file, tissues, and Q-tips, as well as practical-sized mini-bottles of shower gel and shampoo. The breakfast buffet is more than filling, with yogurt, cheese, fruit, pastries, cereal, and meat items, coffee, tea, and, thankfully, Nutella! The front desk staff does its best to give you information to enjoy this happy, chanting, bustling city. Make sure to check out the nearby, chock-filled Parco della Montagnola flea market and come see the positive in this urban hotel, as we did.
Hotel was very very dated. Room was smelly, wallpaper peeling and carpet was so sticky we had to walk around with shoes or slippers on so we didn't catch anything. Constantly felt like we were being bitten by dust mites. Smallest shower in the world. Complained to staff about our room and they tried to help by offering us the only other room available in the hotel (apparently) but this option was worse than the one we had. When we were addressing this issue with reception staff the manager sat there doing nothing and didn't even interact with us the customer or help his staff with the issue in hand, Absolutely horrible hotel and experience. Do yourselves a favour and spend a few more dollars staying elsewhere than this hotel or chain. Thank god we were only staying the one night - shame it completely tainted our Bologna experience.
Stayed here for 2 nights as part of European holiday. This is not a 3 star hotel. Lobby ok and easy check in. Fantastic location. Easy 10 min walk from train station and tourist centre. In the heart of main shopping and restaurant district. Good breakfast in the morning. Good coffee. Other than that the rooms were terrible. Tiny rooms with peeling wallpaper and tired old carpet. Couldn't open wardrobe properly. The bathrooms are minuscule and the shower cubicle ridiculously small. Bathrooms did not match pictures on website. Maybe some are renovated. No power points suitable for European adapter except in the bathroom. Air conditioner pumped out hot air , had to open windows instead.
The location is nice but the hotel room was so smelly I had to sleep with my windows open all night long. Where the wallpapers were coming off of the walls you could see the mold underneeth and there were big brown moisture stains on the sealing.
Inexpensive hotel. Great spot on via l'Indepenzia - 5 mins walk from Piazzo Maggorie. Clean but tired decor and grotty needs updating. Staff nice enough despite my terrible Italian. No info in the room except laundry sheet. Thank goodness the shower was hot and the air con worked. Breakfast offer was ok but pretty poor considering the region's fame for quality produce - cheeses, meats etc.
We stayed here here two nights. The hotel was we thought just a bit far to walk from the station, and so we spent 6 euro getting there by taxi and later getting back to the station. However it is an easy walk from the main piazza and there are many restaurants around. Our room was tiny, with a king size bed. It was actually difficult to mover around the bed on two sides, because the room was that small. The tiles in the bathroom were chipped everywhere, and overall the room was very tired. The best but was that our particular room had opening windows to the front, and an opening window off the bathroom so we could get a lovely breeze through the room. There is airconditioning but this was better. It does have a lift. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was quite good by European standards. This is the three star Zanhotel. It has a four star cousin next door.
