We got the room at a discount which was helpful. Room was large and clean. Everything seemed to be ok in that regard. Walls were thin which doesnt bode well for light sleepers with babies next door. Bed was pretty comphy if not for the dip in the middle. Comphy pillows. Breakfast was standard hotel fare. For the price and location it was suitable. We made the best of it :)
Very pleasant staff, both morning and night. Our breakfast was the best I've had at a Quality Inn - so much good food, including the very delicious sausage gravy. With real sausage! Our room was 2nd floor facing the city and the view is excellent. We enjoyed it almost as much as our comfortable bed. Had a great night's sleep, charged up to explore the area. Thanks, QI!
The address is a little misleading-it says here Grants Mill Rd. but my confirmation page actually gives the address as 3910 Kilgore Memorial Drive in Irondale. It right off the I-20 East bound at the top of the hill. Nice room with a nice view and would definitely stay again when in the area. Nice breakfast area and close to many other restaurants. I went to Ezells Catfish at the bottom of the hill and take a left and it was AWESOME! Also close to Olive Garden and others-McD, Waffle House, Arbys, etc.
I break down my hotel reviews into different categories. I rate each on a scale of 1 to 5. Hope it helps. CUSTOMER SERVICE: 4/5 I pulled in without a reservation. I requested a first floor room, and the desk clerk accommodated me. He wasn’t as welcoming as a lot of front desk employees but he got the job done. I was in and out in under five minutes. APPEARANCE: 3.5/5 This Quality Inn is in more of the motel mold than some other QIs, but it was better maintained than the typical roadside motel. The exterior paint wasn’t faded, the doors weren’t vandalized. One bonus is the incredible view from its hilly perch overlooking the city. Check it out around twilight; stunning. My room was more than a bit musty, but I’ve smelled worse. The carpet was noticeably stained in spots but not wear-shoes-at-all-costs gross. The sofa was cheap, drab, and its cushion felt a bit like a trampoline. Otherwise, it was a clean room with undamaged furniture; cozy enough once I settled in. FUNCTIONS, ACCESS, NOISE: 4/5 All the important things worked. No problem with wifi, the TV had a good picture and its remote control came with a channel guide button. The AC unit maintained the room at a comfy 72F throughout the night There were enough outlets to handle my devices. This Quality Inn is two-levels with outside door entry and no elevator, only stairs to the 2nd floor. The night I was there, there was ample parking in the well-lit lot. I could hear some guests carrying on outside, but nothing sketchy. SLEEP QUALITY: 4/5 For a plush mattress, it was not bad. I prefer a medium firm to firm, but the bedding was soft, pillows comfy. I slept just fine. BATH: 3.5/5 Like many motels, this one has a separate bath/toilet from the vanity area. The counter space under the mirror was more than enough for two, and it was well-lit.The toilet/shower space was a bit dark and uninviting but clean. The shower pressure was adequate. EXTRAS: 4/5 The property has a nice outdoor pool recessed back from the edge of the overlook that peers out at the city. I didn’t have breakfast, but I assume it was standard fare. One cool perk of staying here is its proximity to a large shopping area across the street, featuring Grants Mill Adventure Park, basically a huge jungle gym/obstacle course for kids and adults. To dine out, you’ll need to drive 5-10 minutes to find something. VALUE: 3.5/5 I paid $100 including tax for my single king room. I have paid the same or less for more appealing conditions with more amenities in the Choice Hotels family. That said, no major complaints; I had a fine stay. Total score: 26.5 out of 35 My grade: 3 ½ stars (Above average)
We were visiting B'ham and stayed at the Quality Inn. We called ahead to notify of late arrival, and told "OK, we'll be waiting for you". Upon arrival, check in was smooth. Arrived in room just after midnight and the a/c unit was OFF!!! It was in the middle of a heatwave (it had been 98 degrees in b'ham that day!!). We turned the air on, but it took over 3 hours for the room to cool down. Finally at 3am we were able to use the sheet on the bed to cover ourselves. We stayed two nights. After the first night, we went out for the day and came back at 5pm. The beds had not been made, no clean towels placed, NOTHING. Housekeeping had been in the room because they picked up the used towels. I called the front desk to complain and they said because we were staying two nights, they didn't clean the room. For the price I was paying, I deserved a fresh towel and a made up bed!! On the good side, the bed was very comfortable. We did not eat the breakfast, so can't comment. The wifi worked ok for the short time I used it. Shower spray was pitiful, but bathroom was clean.
Nice lil motel only thing housekeeping needs to clean a lil more there was hair in the shower and shower wasnt clean dirty spot everywhere fd lady was very friendly and helpful beds was nice and clean breakfast didnt eat it put looked very nice
The hotel has very comfortable beds and pillows!! The rooms are very nice, possibly newly renovated of course I don't think they replaced the carpet?? But I am just really picky about floors in a hotel room!! I believe front desk people should of course be professional, but also friendly and that was lacked a little by the one checking us in. Standard hotel breakfast, but was good!! The pool is amazing and the view from the pool side of hotel is awesome, so when booking ask for the side of the hotel that the pool is on!!! The king size rooms are wonderful too!!!
We needed a place to stay for a couple of days in Birmingham and found the Quality Inn. Our room even had a sofa to relax in! Fridge, microwave...easy access around town. The staff was helpful and courteous. The breakfast was a perfect start for our days.
Always stay here when I'm in town to see my customers. Great rate, clean rooms, friendly staff & hot breakfast! Easy access on and off major highways. Close by to good eats. Great view on too of hill. Close enough to downtown for easy access. Al
My family & I stayed here for the Talladega Race in October. The room was very clean & updated. The beds were actually very comfortable too. The location was clean, safe, & quiet. The person at the front desk was very nice & helpful. It was an excellent stay & we had no complaints. We even had a microwave & mini fridge in the room, which was a huge plus. If you're looking for a clean & affordable hotel, stay here! Plus, it was very close to many restaurants & stores. It was about a 20-30 minute drive to the race track but an easy drive.
