The lobby feels like a meat locker it is so cold. It is so uncomfortable that it's not pleasant to hang out in the lobby or get a drink at the bar. This is my 3rd time to stay at this location and the temp in the guest rooms is either too hot or freezing. It is difficult to adjust the thermostat on the wall ac unit to make it comfortable.

Happy with my stay. This is a great place as is always the case in this hotel chain. I love the way they have out things together in a smart efficient way, a very European feel to this band.

They were nice at check-in. Key didn't work so back down to fix the key, back up to the room, key worked - but the head of housekeeping was in my room changing her clothes and ironing her shirt!! Back down, the front desk folks giggled and asked if I wanted another room. Yes, please. No one in the room, but it smelled like BO. The next day I left the room around 10:45 to go to my meeting. I removed the DND sign from the door. I returned at 5:20 to change for dinner. The room had not been cleaned. I asked the front desk and they said - well, did you put the DND sign on the door? Why yes I had, but removed it at 10:45. Well that's the problem, he said. I asked that the room be cleaned immediately while I was at dinner. He said ok. Got back to the room and someone had made the bed, removed the towel and dirty washcloths (did not replace them btw) and that was it. No coffee refill, not trash removal, they didn't even wipe down the counter. Gross.

This chain goes for loft-type styling, with a large, lobby that includes a bar, game table, and to-go self-service deli. Our room had no dressers or comfortable chair, providing open shelves and closet space and a desk with chair. There was a padded bench against the wall, long enough to stretch out on but directly (and permanently) located under the wall-mounted TV, so you had to lie in bed to watch TV. The neighborhood is a low-rise, close-in suburb with its original main street and a good many shops and restaurants, including three independent bookstores. Very convenient to downtown by car, but we chose it because there was so much that we could walk to, at prices somewhat below the downtown hotels. Parking and internet are free, which is not typical in the downtown establishments. Beds were very comfortable, but bedding was minimal, leaving us more dependent on the rooms climate control (which was fine). The hotel was not busy during our stay, and during a busy period there might be a concern about noise in the hallways -- next time, I would try to get a room at the far end of the hallway, more distant from the elevator. Our tiny in-room fridge was fairly noisy, and we wished that the room had a microwave. Staff was very helpful and friendly. We left with a favorable impression overall.

We spent two nights just before Christmas. Parking and check-in were straightforward. In keeping with the loft-style architecture, our room had no dresser or closet, just shelves and an open alcove to hang coats, etc. in the bathroom. We enjoyed the self-service deli for a late-night snack, and other guests were observed enjoying the bar and billiard table in the large, open lobby. The strangest thing about our room was the lack of any comfortable chairs -- only a desk chair and a built-in bench, located under the wall-mounted TV so that you couldn't watch the TV from there. The only location for TV watching was to prop up in bed. The neighborhood is a pre-war, close-in suburb with its own shopping district and several restaurants within 1-2 blocks of hotel. Downtown is about 10 minutes by car. We appreciated the free parking and internet. We would consider it an option in the future if the price were right.

We stayed here for one night and found the room to be clean and comfortable. The location is perfect allowing you to walk out the door to get food and coffee. The staff was very friendly and attentive.

Perfect place to watch the fireworks! Wonderful hotel!

Stayed here over Easter weekend. The pictures (on this site) were truly representative of what we experienced. Very MODERN esthetics. THE ROOM: Beds were firm yet comfortable, linens clean, pillows were abundant. Two table/desk areas gave my fiancé and myself different staging areas for our things (A BIG PLUS for us). Wireless phone in the room. Large tv with pay-as-you-watch options. THE BATHROOM: NO TUB but ample shower. NOTE-water pressure was not great on third floor. Staging area separated by a door with plenty of counter space. COMMON AREAS: Indoor pool was nice. Exercise room looked accommodating, but that's not my cup o tea. Restrooms and computers also available. Grab n Go snacks were available 24/7 as well as comp. coffee. Pool table, lounge areas and bar separate from additional attached restaurant. Outdoor area where we read, talked and had a cigar without feeling watched. NEIGHBORHOOD: This is located in a small downtown style area. Very Safe Vibe. Walked to dinner and breakfast and nightlife was available. Groceries, gas, and drugstore also within a mile. OVERALL: Clean, Safe, Friendly... will repeat our visit to this chain.

Pretty good, not great, but nice convenient location. Nice neighborhood and great nearby restaurants. Room had some broken tiles in the bath and I was in a handicap room which when I used the shower soaked the floor in the bath. Beds were comfortable and amenities were nice.

Normally I prefer to stay in downtown Birmingham, but this time I decided to stay in Homewood since there is a really nice village walking distance to the ALoft. The hotel was very comfortable. Nice bed and the room is very decent size. Great amenities in the bath and all very functional. Easy driving distance to downtown Birmingham as well as the suburbs and businesses off of Route 280. I liked my week stay at the ALoft.

The bed was very good quality so I would say Aloft passed the first critical test. Very clean and a no smoke policy too. The room had instant hot water system-good. I received a $25 dollar charge on my credit card for wi-fi; I didnt see any notice of any additional charge and the front desk person gave me an access code and the inference from the conversation was the service was pro bono. Only other areas for improvement--AC unit was good quality but very noisy. Drain in the hand sink was manual so if you, for example, are inserting contact lenses you need to wash your hands twice. Also the sink was small---to release water you also had to manually release the drain stopper. Final comment---the counter for the sink was very low and felt uncomfortable to use. Short ride to the airport by cab. I might try another hotel the next time I am in Bham, but I would not rule out a second stay at Aloft

They say first impressions are everything, well this hotel is as nice on the outside as it is on the inside! Very modern!!!! LGBT friendly!

It was a very Modern style hotel, unlike any I had ever been to before. I liked the layout of the rooms and the comfort of the whole place. Love that they had Hungry Hungry Hippos for guest to play in the Lounge.

Excellent accomodations.Great bed. Very enjoyable stay. Will stay at Aloft again.

Great looking hotel. I was a little disappointed in that it didn't seem like the floors were vacuumed in days. Also, although the rooms were very nice, the shower didn't work very well.

We just crashed there for an overnight stay, and the rooms are extremely nice and well priced for the upscale comfort given in each room. The bathroom was very contemporary with convenient shampoo and body wash hung on the wall. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the flat screen hung on the wall was a nice touch as well. Plus, the water bottles were free in the room.

The modern style of the Aloft room was incredible. Everything thing from the moment we opened the door to our room was incredibly perfect. The bed was spotless and huge, monster tv on the wall, walk-in shower and modern fixtures. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay or a better location in conjunction to the SoHo area shops and restaurant/bars.

The design of the hotel was very nice but it lacked some basic things that a much cheaper hotel would have: No ice bucket or ice machine (for guest). Had to get ice from employee. Didn't have a Do not Disturb sign "in my room". Other than those minor flaws, I had a great stay. I'd recommend it to a couple needing a quaint getaway in the Homewood/Birmingham area.

Wonderful!

I was staying at this hotel before a huge professional exam. I chose Aloft because of its unique design features as well as the centralized location in the Birmingham area. The location was great because of all the restaurants and bars that were in walking distance. I also enjoyed the convenience of the 24/7 food bar that you could get snacks, etc and add them to your tab.
