I visited here for a lunch with one of my directors to congratulate me on a great year. He suggested here as this is where he often comes with local clients. The food was good and the service was good. But it was the standard of scenery which really made this place special. The ground staff clearly care about what they do as their grounds are fantastic! Would be 5 stars is the food matched the hotel!
A truly fantastic classic building set in acres of grounds with formal gardens Sadly our visit was spoilt by poor service and a bad attitude by the restaurant managers. There was a time when you children where seen and not heard but sadly times have changed and now it’s seems parents are quite happy for their children so sit glued and earphoned to their iPads or smart phones destroying their social skills. Also it seems acceptable for children to be loud and parents don’t control them. After complaining to the manager it seemed that I was the one in the wrong for suggesting they should ask the parents to quieten their children. Wernher’s restaurant is a beautiful old room decorated in splendour that requires a dress code missed by some guests. Certainly not a place for young children. This issue aside I was extremely surprised that one of the waitresses had no idea of what some of the items were on my plate and somewhat dismissive of a missing side order. Again the managers seemed a little offended and grumpy about my compliant although eventually apologised for the issues. I find it wholly unacceptable and disappointing that wonderful places like this just don’t have the high standard of etiquette, manners and the true values of style in such a place. I visited Rules restaurant in London which was established in 1789, it’s one of the few places that still has values befitting such a venue. I hope my next visit to Luton Hoo finds the class and style the setting deserves, otherwise I might just as well go to any old restaurant chain.
excellent main hotel , food in Adams a little under par but still very good . Put the Adams experience down to it being a bank holiday with staff seeming to be too busy to provide the normal excellent service .
We stayed over the Easter weekend as we knew it would be a rainy weekend so wanted to be in a large house where my boy can explore and make use of the facilities and Easter children programme on offer. Our room was located in the club house, which is the newer part of the hotel. The room was large with comfortable beds (including a separate bed for little one). It was spotlessly clean. Towels and bedding were all amazingly soft. We really enjoyed the facilities. Together with my son we spent lots of time in the heated swimming pool, played snooker, played video games and others in a dedicated children play room, took a stroll in the beautiful garden (there are walking trails within the estate but it was too cold and wet), a number of Easter specific activities, enjoyed afternoon tea, watched a happy couple getting married, and more. We were also able to free up time so between my wife and I we were able to slip away to get some spa treatments done too. Any negatives? Avoid Adams Brasserie. The breakfast was average at best. Bacon was cardboard like. Hash brown over cooked. Eggs appeared to have been boiled in oil. And the servicing was poor. We ordered coffee and tea before our food, but the drinks only arrived 10min after our food. We ordered toast but had to remind them twice to get them. And there were only two tables being served at the time despite at least 4 servicing staff.
On June 26, 1948, Sir Winston Churchill spoke to 110,000 people and thanked them for their service during WW2. This property has been transformed from war time services, to a private home to a luxury hotel and never lost its charm or elegance. One should also consider that there has been a house on this site since 1601. Very conveniently located near Luton Airport- an opportunity to have a vacation before or after a vacation or business trip.
We were a table of six, from 4years old to too many to remember! Good table plenty of room for all,a beautiful dining room which complemented the salmon starter, the roast beef was a treat ,friendly service and excellent St Emilion made it an occasion to remember.
Thoscwas a surprise visit by my mother in law as it was an anniversary and our birthdays. The entrance was very grand and as we walked in we could smell the burning fire which was lovely. We had a drink before dinner which was very nice! We were then taken through to the dinner hall which was beautifully decorated. We decided to have the taster menu and it was BEAUTIFUL. Each course was presented well and tasted truly amazing. We all loved it and can't praise it enough. Complements to the chef!! We will be back.
The building and grounds were lovely and we stayed in a really nice room in the mansion. We were just a bit disappointed with the food and service there, although the individual staff members that we dealt with were very nice. Breakfast took 45 minutes to arrive and lunch at the 19th Hole bar was not as described on the menu. The spa is nice, although after lunch the pool filled up with families and their children!
Having visited the Spa at Luton Hoo before I was keen to return. The grounds are amazing and the setting when you approach the Mansion and other buildings are graceful and sophisticated. However, I quickly remembered from last time how bad the signage is to the spa, having parked in 2 car parks and then to be directed, and I HAVE BEEN BEFORE, but it was a while ago and simply couldn’t remember You have to follow the lamp post signs and even those are dark and poor so don’t be surprised if it takes you 10 mins to find the actual spa I had an hour before my treatments so there is nothing nicer than a chill in the jacuzzi, a quick sauna and steam room. I’m not bothered about a pool TBH but the other bits I am. The jacuzzi wasn’t working, the jets on the lay down bed bit were out of order and the jets on the sides were like I can imagine being urinated on, a mere whisper of a jet. When I asked a young man to show me how to turn them on or up, he told me they were on full power and the jet bed wasn’t working The water was luke warm too. The steam room had an out of order sign on the door but the sauna worked TBH it was a waste of time as I didn’t enjoy that hour at all. The treatments were amazing, Becky was brilliant and I highly recommend the Swedish massage and personalised facial, fab fab fab The lunch was great at the brasserie and the staff are lovely. Great service, hot food and nice wine choice. Afterwards,I decided to not use the time I had left (3 hours) in the spa because quite frankly, there was no ‘spa’ and decided to have a shower and come home. I was already annoyed and frustrated, as being away from the kids, to relax all day and chill is a rare treat, and on this occasion the venue and facilities of the spa failed me. The shower then was practically cold The panel on the wall is hanging off the wall (1st shower), and when I tried all the showers, the temp was the same. I came out to reception in my towel to be told they were sorry and maintenance were aware I appreciate things go wrong and facilities break and need maintenance but the jacuzzi or cold plunge pool which it was today, was like that at 10am, so by 3pm when I took the shower, I would have expected it to be fixed. Especially the great Luton Hoo So I have no spa facilities and a cold shower. Standards have dropped and wouldn’t return I use spas a lot and I can recommend Champneys Tring, Whittlebury Hall, Aqua Sana at Centre Parcs Woburn and Wyboston Lakes - all are cheaper or on par and the facilities are amazing I won’t be returning to Luton Hoo for spa facilities.
We visited mid March for my wife's birthday. Fabulous grounds, history, and restored mansion, food in Wernher restaurant was superb. Staff mostly wanting to do a good job but seemed inexperienced which meant our having to ask for everything more than once and after a while this wears thin. Our special dinner started at 1915, but very slow and main course served after 2100, despite requests to speed things up if at all possible before children turned back into pumpkins. Food was exquisite but we were in the corner where food is served, orders placed and the staff congregate. Not quite the intended ambience. The kids loved the spa area but this consists of the infinity people only for those under 16 (steam room and whirlpool off limits) but there was enough space in the main. Two nights, two evening meals and an afternoon tea came to about £1400 which wasnt exhorbitant but the service fell short in my opinion - and it's pretty clear from other reviews that some guests have a perfect time and others fall through the cracks. It can happen but it shouldn't when you're at a 5* hotel and that is why I wouldn't recommend this hotel to look after a special occasion. The duty manager was prompt in trying to put things right and I've had two apologies since giving my thoughts after checkout, but I would prefer not to have had the issues in the first place. I have also been offered personal attention if I return in the future but it's an empty gesture as that won't be happening.
