We had to just stay one night in Basel in transit to France and found the Hotel Rochat to be well positioned and priced. The room was very large with windows that could be opened with a view into the courtyard. The rooms are not fancy but they are new and very clean with a large bathroom. Easy walking distance to everything. We took the number 50 bus to the SSB station and changed into Tram 11 (check which direction it's going before you get on!) and got off at Universitiplass. Quick clean and easy even with suitcases and child in tow! If you're in Basel in the summer buy a Wesser Fisch (a dry bag shaped like a fish available in loads of shops in the town) and head down to the river, pop your clothes in your bag and jump on in for a float down the river and stop at the bars along the way! It was so much fun and if your child is a decent swimmer there's no reason they can't jump in too!
Simple standard, good service, nice and small rooms. Refridgerators at the rooms, elevator and restaurant forbreakfast. Only few minutes to the very charming centre of Basel - 4 minutes walk to the Parking house from the hotel - I can recommend this hotel.
I stayed at the Hotel Rochat a couple of times and was always very pleased by their service. The rooms are clean, quiet and nicely appointed. Located several blocks from the Rhein, the Marketplatz and convenient to bus lines, this is a superb choice for travelers. I traveled with my Mom, who found the layout of the floors a little confusing, but, figured it out pretty quickly. I recommend doing the additional breakfast add-on. Very nice buffet with excellent and fresh offerings of muesli, fruit, cheeses, coffee and eggs.
The hotel is in the city center near restaurants and near the river. You can walk all over the city from here. The rooms are good in a convenient size. They are clean. The breakfast it's ok. I think it's worthwhile having it in the hotel because it has got all you need by a not very expensive price. When in Basel I' ll stay here again
LOCATION - Right across the street from the university, a peaceful little park and the Botanical Garden. An easy walk down the steps to city center, the Pharmacy Museum, and the bridge to Kleinbasel. Close to the Spalentor. TIPS - Down the street to the right is the least expensive market I've found in Basel to stock up on Coca Cola, fresh fruit and snacks. The excellent Middle Eastern restaurant Za Zaa is just a few steps away. DOWNSIDE - The rooms are pretty plain. A bed, a chair, a small functional shower. Some liquid soap in a squeeze container. OTHER - Didn't try the hotel's restaurant so can't comment on that. Nice center courtyard for sitting. If you have heavy bags, can be challenging to navigate over stairs (even using the small lift). Easy to catch bus to airport. Pleasant hotel, nice people. I wouldn't go out of my way to stay here again.
Partner & I are coming to the end of a wonderful vacation that began with a family wedding in England, moved across for seven wonderful weeks in France. Our last hurrah was to stay overnight in Basel before boarding the MS Monarch Baroness for a week-long cruise down the Rhine. The Hotel Rochat is in the old quarter of Basel, & for us provided easy access to the departure wharf for our cruise. The Hotel was a perfect choice. The two staff attending the main desk greeted us as friends rather than hotel fodder. Our room was great: spotless & tres comfortable bed. We also greatly appreciated being able to open windows for fresh air. Unfortunately, probably due to a meal taken before the hotel, we both be came 'slightly' nauseous. So much so that we stayed in our room, well into the following morning, neglecting to ring the front desk & cancel the optional buffet breakfasts we had ordered. Staff once again were fantastic. Not only was there no problem about striking the breakfast tariffs from our bill, but staff, knowing we were ill, assisted us with our luggage, ordered a taxi to take us to the wharf & insisted on attending us to make sure we got into the taxi safely & that the driver knew exactly where we needed to go. Sadly, we did not get to eat at the Hotel Rochat, so cannot comment on the food. We do know however, that on any future visit to Basel the Hotel Rochat would be our hotel of choice. Wonderful staff. Highly recommended.
My husband stayed at the hotel for a week and it was wonderful. The staff was very helpful and went out of their way to be accommodating. The breakfast was more than adequate. The room was nice with a large bathroom. The location of the hotel is within walking distance of the marketplatz, many restaurants, shops and museums. A pass is provided by the hotel for transportation on the trams.
We arrived around 1 PM expecting to have to check our luggage and were delighted to find our room was ready. Our room was large, comfortable and quiet. The only small downside is that getting to our room from the elevator involved several places were we had to go up or down a few steps. The room has a safe, hair dryer, and small minibar refrigerator. The bathroom is well lit with a fully enclosed shower. The room was airy with lots of natural light and good lighting at night. The bed is hard, which seems to be preferred in Switzerland. The hotel is very centrally located. We took the number 11 tram from the train station to the hotel after arriving from Luzern. The visitor information office at the train station advised us to take the number 11 tram to the Universitatsspital stop. That way you can walk up Petersgraben with no steps. If you get off at Schifflande, you are closer but must go up 75 steps, which doesn't work well when you have luggage. The Information office also informed us that we would get a transportation pass from the hotel for the duration of our stay and did not need to buy tickets to get to the hotel. If asked for our tickets on the way to the hotel, we could just show the copy of our booking paperwork. The staff were very helpful providing detailed directions on how to get to various places and where to eat. The botanic garden is very close. You can visit it at no charge. The large greenhouse is especially spectacular with some birds that sing.
Very nice property and very accommodating staff. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Awesome location. Breakfast buffet was reasonable and very good. Bring an electrical convert or you can get at front desk. Would stay here again
We stayed in Basel at Hotel Rochat twice. Both times we had a very large double room in size of a big suite (ca 35 and 45 m2). The rooms were very nice and well furnished with a large HD-TV and a good range of international canals. The hotel was quite silent and gave a good sleep. It is well situated in old town. The only minus was the lack f a bidet shower.
