We stayed for a week at this small, excellent hotel. It is located across from the most scenic tor in the city and it's very easy to walk to town or take public transportation anywhere. The bus goes directly to the bahnhof and trams go anywhere you wish. When in Basel, hotels will give you a transportation pass. Use it!! The staff was so courteous and helpful. There is a nice little garden out back. The front rooms are very, very noisy, but we chose one with a small balcony anyway and slept with the windows wide open. We might chose the back of the hotel next time, though it would still be noisy. It's adjacent to the university and there are hundreds of bicycles going through the intersection. It's all fun to watch. Breakfast is quite good if you wish to pay for that.

Excellent hotel and staff. Very helpful to find many nice restaurants in Old Town. The rooms are clean and well maintained and modern. And the hotel is located extrely near bus and tram transportation transportation. We recommend highly.

We stayed here a couple of nights in April. The girl at the desk Amanda went out of her way to be helpful. She gave us directions several times on how to get around the city with the tram as well as the bus. The hotel provided a nice buffet breakfast each morning. The rooms were very comfortable. Amanda also provided us with a city map and free tram and bus ticket for the duration of our stay. Well done.

Although not in the middle of the action so-to-speak the Spalentor is a well appointed choice with comfortable and spacious rooms. The Missionstrasse can be noisy so ask for a room on the parking area side. There is a nice cozy bar in the lobby and the breakfast room is spacious with an excellent choice of breakfast items. Don't forget to ask for a mobility ticket for the trams and buses. Bicycles are available for free.

great location for walking to restaurants and catching local electric buses to anywhere including the train station; accommodations were nice size and very clean, good beds and pillows; service was superior and lovely breakfast room on the top floor

We stayed here at the end of April. First off, when arriving at the airport, make sure to come out to the Swiss side (to the right) when going through customs and head to the bus. You can use your hotel confirmation as your bus ticket if anyone asks to see your ticket (which they didn't). Take the #50 bus to SBB the central train station. From there cross the street and catch the #30 bus and go up three stops and there's the hotel across the street. Your confirmation is also your ticket for this bus. Then the Hotel gives you a pass to use for the trams and buses during your stay. How great is that! Makes getting to the hotel from the airport and getting around super easy. The hotel staff are very nice and helpful. It was directly across from the historic part of Basel, and we were able to meander through those great windy streets all the way down to the Munster, the Marketplaz and Rathaus. We ate at two restaurants with Swiss cuisine right near the hotel that the front desk recommended and both were great, Zum Tell and Restaurant zur Harmonie. So now to the hotel itself. We had a room overlooking the front of the hotel, and I was concerned since we were on a major artery that it would be really noisy. There was some noise, but nothing terrible. They have free wifi. The room had quite a few plugs to plug in electronics which is a necessity these days. The breakfast every morning was, in my opinion, extensive: pancakes, yogurt, scrambled eggs, bacon, pastries, juice, coffee, tea, cold cuts, cheese, cereal, bread. The bed was super comfortable, and our king bed had two twin duvets which was great, no fighting with the covers. The room itself was clean. The water pressure was great. There was an in-room safe. We also went back to the train station, just back those three stops on the bus and took a train to Lucerne to spend the day there. It's only an hour's ride one-way, trains run very frequently and well worth it. You get a great view of the mountains. We left on the Sunday for a Viking Cruise, and the hotel called Viking to figure out what dock we needed to go to and organized a cab to get us there. So all in all I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone planning to spend some time in Basel.

We have stayed at the Spalentor twice now, and will always choose it in the future. The staff was extremely helpful - no request was too large or difficult for them. The rooms are very spacious, particularly by European standards, as well as modern and quite comfortable. However, it is the staff that will keep us coming back.

We booked this hotel as we arrived a day early to join a river cruise. The hotel is situated just outside the gate of old town. The room was very generously sized and there was a wonderfully comfortable chair in the room. The bed was lovely with a down comforter and good pillows. It was possible to open the windows and after a long flight it was nice to have the fresh air. The bathroom had a deep tub. The staff were very helpful and courteous. The hotel sits on a corner and the front of the hotel faces a small parking area and an outdoor seating area. The back of the hotel faces a busy street with a tram line. Keep this is mind when requesting a room. Ours was to the back and the front may be quieter. We had a good stay a good rest and were ready to start our day the following morning. The hotel knew the exact location of our ship and arranged a cab to get us there. All good.

Is a great hotel value for money room is clean and very nice ,staffs are very nice always willing to assist customers ..thank you guys for hosting me i really did enjoyed my stay at the hotel ..when next am in Basel i will definitely book Spalentor Hotel ..

Great little hotel. The staff were brilliant nothing was too much trouble, even help with booking a table at the local restaurant. The room was spacious and clean. The hotel is in walking distance to the old town and other attractions. Local bus and tram links just outside the hotel door which was free to all guests. Free fruit and takeaway coffee in reception ready for your morning walk. Some English channels on the TV.
