Hotel Gotico4.0 out of 5.0

The hotel has been renovated. We had a double bed room, which was a good size ( remember this is Europe). Beds were comfortable. Front desk very friendly. Breakfast very good. The best part is the location which is right in the center of everything. Try to book a room on the 5th floor. Some of those rooms have a "solarium" which is nice.
We had not originally booked this hotel but due to rooms being out of order at our original one we were provided this hotel as an alternative. We were very pleased. The hotel is modern and fresh. The staff are helpful and very polite. We were provided with breakfast for stay free of charge due to the change of hotel. Our room was more than adequate size with a lovely bathroom, the shower was lovely. There was a safe and small fridge within the wardrobe. The only downside was not much storage space other than hanging space, no drawers etc. Our beds were twins instead of a double though. The wifi was good and available. The flat screen tv in the room offered some English channels. The breakfast room was probably the only part of the hotel I saw that did not appear to have been updated with the look of the rest of the hotel, however that does not affect how your breakfast tastes! There was a variety of foods and drinks available and it was not overly busy in a morning. It's a perfect location for sightseeing. Five mins walk from the centre of Las Ramblas and 10mins from Plaça Catalunya. We got a taxi from the airport but it did not drop us anywhere near the hotel, possibly because Las Ramblas was so busy. It cost €41, which was a bit steep. We used the Aerobus from Plaça Catalunya for the return back, very easy and wished we'd have caught that from the airport. It cost €5.90 one way each and now we know our way around we will use it next time. When we return to Barcelona, which we definitely will be, I expect us to use this hotel again. Highly recommended.
We stayed here one night before leaving on our cruise. Excellent location with excellent staff. We arrived early so they stored our luggage and had nice bathrooms to freshen up in before sight seeing. We returned and our luggage was in our rooms. The young man handling our bags on both days was so pleasant and our group had a lot of bags. The rooms were clean, updated and spacious. It was surrounded by great bakery's, restaurants and sights. We will return for our next trip to Spain.
Can't fault this hotel at all infact it is a little gem in a perfect location. Rooms are lovely, small but adequate and very nicely decorated. The hotel is spotless. ALL of the staff are very pleasant, helpful and polite. Breakfast good and plenty of choice and available until 10.30 which suited us! We will be back! Thanks for a fantastic stay in Barcelona.
We could not fault this hotel. The rooms are on the small side but when you only need it to sleep in, that's no issue. The bathroom was clean and well finished. The hotel is well placed for la Rambles and the marine and beach area. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If or should I say when we return to Barcelona we will look to book in here again.
Only real bad point I have to say is I emailed the hotel twice before arrival and neither got replied to. Now the good stuff. Arrival and check in was friendly and fuss free. We had room 509 which wasn't massive but had comfy beds, decent number of hangers in a decent size wardrobe and a good size bathroom / shower. It's very modern and clean. Maid service daily. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom. We were next to a lovely roof terrace with loungers, seating and parasols. The hotel staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The location is excellent. In the beautiful gothic quarter with shops, bars and restaurants the minute you venture out. Less than 5 min walk from la rambla, less than 5 min walk from the nearest hop on hop off bus stop (catedral gotic). Taxi was €38 one way and €35 the other. The aerobus is €10ish return and drops you at plaça catalunya which is a 10 min walk from the hotel. Hotel is 1 min walk from nearest metro. Safe hire in room is €2 a day. City tax was approx €7 for 3 nights. We couldn't get on the wifi our whole stay but not seen anyone else say this and we didn't report it as didn't really need it as had free roaming abroad. I am going to Barcelona again in March and had booked my stay before this one. I'm going to a different hotel but had I not already booked, I would definitely be booking this one again.
We checked into room 504, which would have to be the smallest hotel room I have ever seen. One side of the bed is flat against a wall therefore you can only access the bed on one side. The bathroom is unbelievably small, the basin is so tiny you can't even wash your face without water going all over the mirror, yourself and the floor. As you sit on the toilet you are squashed between the door and the shower. Positives of the hotel include, air conditioning, nice balcony however always too hot to use, staff where friendly, the location of the hotel is perfect and very central and good water pressure from shower. Negatives include, very small room(when asked to change and even pay extra we were told nothing was available), the smell of the hotel which is strongest in the room is horrible, it smells like some strong chemical, when we checked into the room the sheets where stained and we asked them to be changed (to which they where changed within the hour) and breakfast has a poor variety and is basic. We would not recommend for families or couples, probably best for one person who will spend minimal time in the hotel.
Stayed here for 4 nights, great location right next to the metro. Staff were always friendly, air con was a little bit noisy but not too much of a problem. Misses bag got stolen on our first night and the staff were very helpful with getting hold of the police. Highly recommend.
2 weeks ago we stayed there for a family vacation, This place offers a good location, but is not good for families with small children. Staff in front were nice, but were not locals (all were from other countries) and in times for help, well they did not knew the city very well or were able to recommended anything useful. Nevertheless, location is right there in the middle of Gothic Old town, which is great for local shops and restaurants. Again most things were walking distance, also the time we visit was really full of Tourists making our stay with a toddler a very difficult one there. Room was very small, but they did provided a crib. this place is better for Young couples without children or People /groups which did not care about space and can sacrifice other comforts to be right there at the city. So we understood out limitations as a family. In our care was booked with an agency we requested 4 stars hotel in Barcelona, but this place did not reflected 4 stars in any way. Breakfast was good thou.
The stars mean something different in the old world. Good location. No area to leave baggages ( middle of the street). Incredibly small rooms even for European city standards. The staff was nice but most are not in condition to help you with the usual tourist questions (they know nothing about restaurants, tours, etc). If you're a couple below 30 and no kids I guess it's ok. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it.
