Hotel Diagonal Barcelona4.0 out of 5.0

It was special occasion for us as it was my 30th on the 25th of April and we had the whole idea how we going to spend it. We searched for various cities and fell in love with photos of Diagonal and booked Barcelona for that reason. We went for the Junior Suite which is on the top floor and one of the best rooms in the hotel.. We have arrived at 10am to get told we can not check in until 2pm which was no problem. The friendly porter took our cases from us we got back at check in at 2pm. Once we got in the lift there was a sign saying the Pool Terrace was closed from 24th - 26th of April. It really threw me off as we booked that hotel for the reason we wanted a pool on the terrace and we had planned to get a bottle of champagne and enjoy the sunshine on my 30th birthday while soaking up the sunshine and enjoy the views.. considering we had no email or anything to let us know otherwise we would have stayed elsewhere? Can I also point out that this hotel is nowhere near the beach (around 10E to get there one way) so letting us know such vital information about the pool terrace really upset me. I went downstairs and spoke to rude receptionist called Jesus - I was very upset about the fact no one emailed us about pool area closed for maintenance and I felt like the whole trip is ruined for me especially it's such a special occasion my 30th. Jesus was rude to me and didn't apologise nor look interested seeing me in distress and had the cheek to tell me that "it's too cold to sunbathe anyway" (!!) I asked to speak to his manager and then got greeted to a hotel manager Sergio who again didn't look interested in helping me said that the pool area only opens 1st of May anyway which was a lie as it states on the paper that it's open unless it's a private function..I have asked for compensation of some sort which he refused which caused us arguing in the middle of the reception area in front of all checking in guests!! After arguing with me for around 15 minutes Sergio offered me to go to their sister chain company to use the pool for my birthday if I wanted to but it would cost me around 15-20E in the taxi one way, he also said he will send a complimentary bottle of champagne to my room that night for 8.30pm which he didn't send.. There's other things that was wrong with the hotel in general without the FALSE promises and cute pool photos on the roof for example we got the best room in the hotel however currently there's a lot of other hotels being built and construction is loud and on from the morning until end of the late afternoon. There's no kettle in the rooms which is strange so you can't have a coffee or tea. I got woken up by cleaners every morning at around 9am smashing doors closed / hoovering and chatting very loud. Cleaners also knock and just walk in the room - which is rude I was standing by the mirror which is on the main door and I said no thank you she opened the door anyway! Goood job I was dressed!! You only get 1 pillow per person. I've asked for an iron and got told they only have 1 iron at the hotel (?) There's tiny TV with 1 english channel that doesn't really work. Overall really disappointed with the service from your staff and how I was treated on my birthday and no one seem to care or want to listen. I would say if you want to book this hotel DON'T put your money towards somewhere more central.
I stayed here for a week with my partner and the Reception staff were brilliant and catered to all our needs. Our sink was blocked one night and within 15 minutes it had been sorted. Shower is very glass and open so be sure to be aware of this before staying! Lovely spacious bright room, we had gorgeous views of Barcelona. The blinds were great at blocking out the light and the room catered to all our needs. Don't buy from the fridge- next door are plenty of shops much cheaper. Also breakfast is expensive so we opted to go to a cafe about 2 minutes away which was lovely. One issue we did have was the maids/cleaners. There was no option to have them not disturb us. Even if we didn't want our room cleaned they would walk in. At least twice whilst we were in bed they walked in to clean our room without knocking and without an apology - this definitely needs addressing- a hotel without privacy. Despite this the hotel was kept to an incredible standard and the top terrace was beautiful and offered a great reading space. Cocktails are very expensive though. We walked to the beach but it is a good 20/25 minute walk so best not to head down there at midday either go earlier or later. Wonderful area nearby called Poblenou offers lots of lovely Spanish cuisine and the shopping centre opposite is obviously a great help. Metros nearby so transport is easy. Probably a bit pricier than it should have been considering there was barely a swimming pool (it's tiny) and we didn't have breakfast included and we had no privacy, but nonetheless I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it if you're with friends/have a lot of spare money.
The location of the hotel is very good, as it's close to "Glories" metro station where you can go on foot. Not very far from the overcrowded center, on Diagonal Av., where you can find several shops. Generally we had a nice stay; the room was cosy and with a good view, on the 8th floor. The front desk was helpful. The telephone calls from the room was very expensive (as we had to make some, because our provider didn't open the roaming). Also, resonable prices at the bar of the lobby.
We came to Barcelona as a couple on a 4-day city trip. Arriving at the hotel is sublime. There's a lovely welcoming smell as you enter and the staff welcomes you as if you are a regular guest. The rooms are spotless and very modern. Breakfast isn't cheap but the diner-restaurant is in mid-range costs and the food is pretty decent as they also serve local products.
The hotel was nice and the staff was friendly throughout my stay the bed wasn't so comfortable as there was only one pillow and I can't sleep with one pillow the service in the restaurant was good as well
Stayed for 3 nights and the hotel room exceeded expectations. We had two windows with automatic blinds and the bathroom was amazing. It was so modern and the bed was so comfy. We had such a pleasant surprise when we walked into our room it was amazing. Staff were also so friendly. It is close to a metro stop so is easy to access the sites.
This hotel is not far from the metro so it was very easy to get to from the airport. The hotel is always kept neat and tidy and our room was very modern and clean. Only negative is that the hotel pool isn't heated so could only be used during the day but apart from that, the staff were very friendly and helpful, it is close to the beach, plenty of shops and super markets around, and in a good location.
The hotel's staff was friendly and highly responsive. The breakfast buffet was remarkable. Our room had a fabulous view of Sagrada Familia. The rooms had a lovely interior design. Overall the customer service was excellent and our stay made our first visit to Barcelona memorable.
Comfortable, clean hotel with helpful and accommodating staff. I would definitely recommend it. Room with a view of Tower Akbar is very nice. Near a subway and tram stop, so you can easily access various sites in the city.
The hotel is nearby public transportation (M = gorcies), and easily accessible from the centre. Across the street there's a shopping complex (different clothing brands, food, ...). We had a nice welcoming when checking in, and the staff is very friendly/helpful. The hotel has a good atmosphere, though the blue/purple light feels a bit cheap. Room and bath room were clean. It's located next to a street, but you can barely hear something. For me, the beds weren't very comfy. I think the beds have a sprung mattress, which I find very uncomfortable to sleep on. This is also the reason that I quoted the hotel with a lower score. I definitely recommend to drink something in the bar. The wine is relatively cheap (around €3.75).
