Basically , this was the second time we were booking at an Eric Vokel ... the last time i was in Madrid was in Oct 2016 and booked at Eric Vokel Atocha ...and a day prior to my arrival , they informed me via an email saying the hotel is undergoing "major maintenance " so they were changing my booking and putting us up at the Eric Vokel Madrid ( gran via ) , I agreed because it was so last minute but since i was travelling for business , it was not the most convenient location for my work . However I did accommodate their issues ! This time I booked at their Madrid ( Gran Via) property for my April 2017 visit ( since it was pleasure along with my work trip ) !!!! 24hrs prior to my arrival , i get an email from them telling me that this property is "undergoing major maintenance hence they have accommodated us at Apartment Minas !!!!!!! This was way too much of a coincidence and made me wonder WHY ?? I realised two major things ::::::: 1) The rate at which i had booked Eric Vokel was double of that at Minas for the same days ....so in essence they were saving money by re-booking me at a cheaper apartment. 2) They informed me 24hrs prior to my arrival ... i had booked through Expedia , so if i did cancel and re-book elsewhere , i would be running around like a headless chicken for the next month figuring who to receive my money from , because Expedia charges the full amount as cancellation charge if cancelled in less than 24hrs prior to arrival !!! Literally , i had no choice but to take their offer for Minas !!!! They refunded me a paltry €90 !! To get to the bottom of things , i think your confirmation at this hotel means nothing if hey get higher rates on your dates ! They tend to ditch you and inform you 24hrs before your arrival . I refuse to believe that it was a coincidence considering it was at both their properties !! Very Very disappointing and unprofessional !!!
We stayed at these apartments over Easter weekend. Its a great location, central to the fountains and seconds from the metro and airport bus. We were a family group of 7 staying in the 4 bed, 2 bath apartment. Reception staff were great and very helpful with our enquiries and were there longer hours than we expected. There is a small corner in the reception with top up bits like coffee, tea and dishwasher tablets which is very handy The apartment itself was on the 7th floor, the lift wasn't great but to be expected in this type of older building. There was a certain amount of noise from the road, but there are blackout shutters which help, which are controlled by electric switches. The apartment was clean and spacious The only complaint would be that it was too sparse in furniture / decor It needs additional comfortable seating, the settee only sat three people and there is enough space for more chairs easily. Further wall mirrors would be helpful, particularly if trying to use a hairdryer in the bedroom. The double bed had an extremely hard / firm mattress, just probably a personal thing! There was plenty of cutlery, cooking equipment and although we didn't cook, it would definitely have been an option Overall we would highly recommend this place and Barcelona. We had a great weekend and the accommodation and staff was great
Second time staying here. As we're a family of five hotel prices are expensive. The Apts on the gran via are a 12/14 minute walk to the main Cataylan square where it all happens. Apartments are very well equipped and have all mod cons and are spotlessly clean. Reception area has a supply of tea, coffee, sugar, oil, sauces etc as well as washing machine and dishwasher tabs which is ideal. Have recommended to friends & will in the future.
My family just finished staying here 6 nights over my son's spring break .We booked this hotel because we wanted a separate room/space for my son to sleep since rooms with actual double separate beds are hard to come by in Barcelona. We stayed in apartment 74, a one bedroom, that overlooked a courtyard with a view of the mountains in the background which was nice. The apartment suited our needs perfectly. It was modern, had a full kitchen, living room with a sofa that folded out, and dining table. We used the kitchen quite a bit. Our first day we went to the grocery store, Mercadona, which is 2 blocks away, and stocked up on breakfast items and snacks for the week. It helped that the kitchen was fully equipped with everything - dishes, cookware, cooking utensils, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, etc. One night I even made steaks that we picked up at Mercado de La Boqueria. The bathroom and bedroom were nice and the closet had plenty of space. We really enjoyed the location of the hotel. The metro, Rocafort, is on the same block as the hotel, though we didn't use it because my family likes to walk a lot. We loved the proximity to placa de catalunya, and because I"M A SHOPPER, I loved the proximity to Passieg de Gracia. :) There were a few, minor downsides: - The bed in the bedroom was a little on the hard side. - The cleaning staff doesn't come everyday, which we knew when we booked, but it's a feature I missed. If you plan to stay here, I would go ahead and ask the front desk for extra towels when you check in. The front desk also has a stock shelf of supplies - laundry detergent, dishwashing detergent, coffee, tea, cooking oil packets, and a few other items. - The front desk isn't staffed 24/7. This was only an issue for us one night because we had a family that was extremely loud next door until 4am and there was no one we could call to complain. - While the elevator is "charming" it does have it's quirks. In order for the elevator to work, you have to close the door after exiting. Not everyone remembers to do this and leaves the door open when they get off on their floor. So, with us being on the 7th floor, we sometimes had to hike the stairs, which were a lot. So I would recommend a low floor if possible. I think all and all the hotel is great for families and is in a very good location. Despite the downsides, we enjoyed the hotel last week.
Wow, these apartments are amazing. We had booked a two bedroom but got upgraded on arrival to a four bedroom on the 7th floor. All rooms were of adequate size and cleanliness. We stayed in 71 which over looked the Gran Via and further into the distance Tibidabo mountain. The front desk team, and in particular Andy, were extremely helpful and courteous every time we "popped" in to visit Erik's corner where you can help yourself to coffee, hot chocolate powder, napkins, dishwasher and washing machine tablets. Right outside of the apartments is a fantastic patisserie where you can get freshly made cakes, bread and croissant! To the left as you exit the apartments, two blocks or so up is placa espanyol and to the right after a 20 minute walk is placa catalunya. Taxi ride was 35 Euro from airport but 28 Euro back to airport. All in all we would recommend staying here although if you are a light sleeper or not used to traffic noise you should request a room that doesn't overlook the gran via. Fantastic stay and would so again!!!
This is our second stay at these apartments and once again it was lovely. Location is great as the metro is right next to it. The apartments are clean and modern with every thing you need. Great for kids too
Stayed here with 3 family members. Couldn't be more pleased. Great staff at reception, spotless and modern apartments. Not noisy despite being on 1st floor. Great appliances too which we used Would agree with another review that some mirrors would be useful.
We were staying here for 5 days. Hotel is only 2 minutes walking distance to underground station and only 3 stations away from La Ramblas. Love this 1 bedroom apartment, good equipped with all appliances; c/w 2in1 washing dryer, small kitchen, hot shower, small balcony, etc. love the overall design of he apartment. Coffee, tea, sugar, etc, all provided in lobby. You have to collect by yourself. Lift is very antique, it take very long time going up and down. And capacity of the lift only able to cater 4 persons at once without luggage. Highly r cowmmending for anyone to visiting Barcelona
Great location, comfortable, quiet, spacious, clean, equipped, attentive staff. We found it better to have a room and a living room with a kitchen than just a room. It gives more flexibility and you feel less constrained by the space.
We stayed last weekend in these stylish apartments. They are very comfortable, and conveniently situated next to Rocafort underground. There's a bakery underneath with a cafe for breakfast and a supermarket nearby. Now the downsides: - as you might guess from the name, they're on a main road and even though we were on the 7th floor the traffic noise was constant. However, it didn't disturb anyone. - although acceptable, both the towels and the mattresses were coming to the end of their lives. - no mirrors apart from the ones in the bathrooms, meaning me and the other two ladies had to spend twice as long in the bathrooms while we did our hair and make up. A pet hate. - be careful! In the three and four bedroomed apartments, one room is only a single. Despite these quibbles, the apartment was lovely and a very good option for a group or family.
