Usually staying here when visiting Wismar, good rooms but somewhat uncomfortable beds. Friendly staff and ok brekkie buffet. Even a small bar in the restaurant corner for a cold pils. I had early checkout, so the receptionist even arranged a doggy bag with some breakfast! Great service!
We stayed for one night as a stopover. Great location on the main square, easy car parking in the back (15 Euro per night). Great staff. We had a big comfortable family room, clean, with TV and safe. Breakfast was also good. Only issue was the slow wifi, at least in our room.
Steinenberger is set right in the market square. The hotel staff were wonderful and restaurant was very good but the rooms were a bit small and don't get me started on the shower. It's Germany so it was very clean. About an hour and a half north of Hamburg near the Baltic and North Seas. Still very chilly in early May, so bring a coat and sweaters.
It seems expensive, but you will get a lot for what you pay. Newspaper, shoe cleaning or car parking etc. . The Lobby staff is very helpful and friendly, and the rooms were clean. The breakfast was very good and the location is convenient. A couple of sightseeing spots are within walking distance as well as the small lake "Alster".
A very nice and clean hotel in the middle of the City. Parking was no problem, even it was at the market place. Everything around was walking distance, to the harbour, café, shopping or restaurants. The breakfast was very good, lots of choices and very friendly staff.
Nice hotel, cozy rooms, absolutely perfect location, right in the middle of the town. The breakfast is also very impressive. The acess to the garage is slightly complicated but is not a great problem. The service is kind and efficient. Nice place to stay
The hotel is ideally located at the beautiful town square and within walking distance of all tourist things to see and to do. Front desk staff was efficient. We stayed there for 3 nights. Our room was situated in the annex building, above the parking lot, but relatively quiet. It was nicely decorated, rather small, but with a good bed. There was no airco (daytime temperatures 32°c and more!) which made it extremely difficult and uncomfortable to get some sleep during the night. Also, no coffee or tea facilities. The bathroom was quite small and had soap dispensers which had to be squeezed very hard to get some soap. The small shower had a curtain. Breakfast was served in buffet form. The second day we had breakfast very early; the bread was stale; after one spoon full of peach yoghurt I noticed it had gone off. It stood in a big bowl which was not chilled. I pointed it out to a staff member who replaced it immediately. The first night we had a buffet dinner; the worst buffet I have ever had! Very limited choice, dishes were not refilled and the whole buffet got very messy after a while. We left the table feeling hungry. The hotel was not what I would expect from a Steigenberger hotel.
Though called steigenberger hotel stadt Hamburg the hotel is situated in Wismar. Facing the pituresque old market square. We arrived early but the hotel kindly offered to take care of the luggage. When arriving again our luggage was already at our room. This was the standard we met with the staff through out our entire stay. The reception was placed away from the entry so you didn´t interact so much with the staff, but when needing them their service was prompt and kind. For example when i scolded myself on hot coffee in my room, when sitting in my bed. My husband went to the reception and the helped with getting a doctorand got some ice cubes and teatowel to cool my burn down. And the receptionist changed my bedlinen afterwards thoght it was close to midnight. We honestly thought they would charge me for the inconvenience, but it was purely good service. Downside of the hotel is that it seems that boys, who are not guests use the piano in the lobby, when passing on their way. This can be a bit annoying and shouldn´t take place. Another thing is that the hotel consists of two building with a bridge between. Our room was in the "new building with the parking garage right under us. This made us wake up often when cars where coming and going and the sliding door of the garage was very noisy. Besides the delivery van to the hotels kitchen was parked right outside our window in the alley every morning with the motor on. This made a smell of fuel in our room, when the windows where open due to no aircondition. The room itself was an average roomstandard in a german hotel. Plenty of storage room a bright big bathroom of never standard. The walls in the room was a colour that we found cosy, Other will probably find it depressing. There was a minibar but no coffee/tee facilities which we kind of find a necessity these days. Unfortunately there was only one chair to sit on and the room itself was kind of inconvenient in its size and shape. with actually quite a lot of space but hard to make the most of. It was nice though that the room had a "french balcony". Overall a nice experience and the price compared to what we got, we would probably choose the hotel again if going to wismar.
This is probably the best hotel in Wismar. It's a little bit DDR still, and not as smart as some other Steigenberger hotels (their Munich hotel for example is excellent) but has a great location on the main square, is clean and tidy and if you have a room at the front, waking up watching the sun rise over the gothic loveliness of Wismar is awesome. Don't have a room at the front on Wednesday though, or you'll walks up in the early hours to see and hear the market being assembled and opened. On the plus side it makes a nice place for breakfast for a change.
My second stay (26-28 April 2015) at this hotel: a great location, right in the centre, very upmarket and efficient. My room (313) was one of the rare single, if a little cramped, rooms in modern hotels, had a fantastic view over the Market Square, was clean, quiet, comfortable and well-equipped. The only thing missing was a raised stand for my suitcase. On the door of the spacious bathroom was a notice informing guests that a bathrobe could be obtained from Reception for a deposit of €25; inside the wardrobe was a bathrobe. The bathroom was well supplied with hooks, and there were plenty of power sockets in convenient locations. Internet access (cable) was great once I got it, but the “Internet Surfticket” was not handed to me until I asked, after repeatedly failing to get online through a system which appeared to mean that only the room number, guest name and date of departure were required. I was also not told that I would need a new one every day, which wasted a lot of time on my last evening. Dinner in the restaurant was no more than acceptable, but the breakfast buffet was outstanding: extremely varied, and everything fresh.
