we stayed for 2 nights. first of all the parking underground is a joke. cars are just lobbed round the place, its madness down there just waiting for cars to get scratched or worse. the room was nice but needs some work, the tv was so old it didnt even have a usb connection. tv's are very important when you have a small kids in bed at 8pm and want to enjoy the evening relaxing and watching a few shows (we usually bring a chromecast with us but the tv was too old to get a connection). WIFI was excellent however with no passwords or log ins. Pool was great and lifeguards well placed and very professional. Changing rooms need some attention, of the 6 shower units only 2 had shampoo dispensers and the other 4 had just holes in the wall from where they once were, lockers are free and its a good safe system. The only thing I did not like was random people wearing their clothes and outdoor shoes walking about the pool. This has to stop!!!! How can you put up signs for swimmers to shower before they enter the pool area and then outdoor shoes dropping who knows what about the pool as they wander around.... The bar was lively earlier in the evening and was it 5 years ago when it was just 2 of us we would have had a few more there no problems. The acts the hotel attract are top class. Herself used the spa and said the facility was very nice but the massage not great and could not recommend. Overall Would I stay here again.... doubtfull Was I upset with my stay.... no Would I tell a friend to stay here.... on the fence oh p.s. if you are the manager and reading this; the travel cot the was in our room was broke when we got there. I know it was only one side but what kind of jackoff puts a cot into a room sets it up knowingly that one side keeps falling down and walks away. It was a kid going sleeping in it. I had a hanger in my bag and tied up the broken side that was falling down as it was damaged. These things should not happen in a **** hotel

All staff we came in contact with were very helpful and only too pleased to help. The Restaurant Manager in particular is a tremendous asset to the Hotel Team could not have been more helpful. Public areas were very cold and uncomfortable to sit in- time the heating was turned on or the A/con off. Temperature of pool water chilly. Temperature of water in the bathroom tepid tried to have a hot bath to warm up but not possible.

Spent two nights in the Shearwater for a large family celebration, the hotel foyer is impressive with nice areas to relax and the spa and gym are excellent, the pool area was good the water warm but I saw a slug in the grid around the pool edge, not pleasant, but the hotel generally is not 4* and is way over priced. The Resturant in particular is very worn with chipped tables and chairs and no tablecloths or linen napkins. For our celebration dinner the service was disastrous with some of our party finished their main before some had even got their starter, wrong orders and the table wasnt laid properly, for instance the bread plate was placed on the right instead of the left, not what you would expect from a 4* hotel dining experience. The breakfast was mediocre again definitely not 4*. The room corridors also show ware, doors and walls scuffed. Our bedroom carpet was very badly stained, some mildew on the bathroom tiles, very awkward to step in and out of the bath to shower and I would imagine it would be exceptionally difficult for an older person. Airconditioning didnt work properly even though we had it turned to the coldest and highest fan settings the room was very hot which made it difficult to sleep which was a pity as the beds where very comfortable. We where out most of the second day not returning till 4pm to find our room hadn't been serviced, we thought it was because we hadn't put the 'please service the room' sign on the door which we then did and went to the bar for a coffee we came back about an hour later and the cleaning staff where still on the corridor but our room hadn't been done, I caught a staff members attention and she asked in an exasperated tone if I wanted the room cleaned, so I apologetically said if she didn't mind making the beds and changing the towels, I shouldnt have to apologise for wanting my bed made and a clean towel in a 4* hotel !!!

The hotel is beautiful inside. Checking into the hotel room for 4pm seems late but we got in before that luckily. The Spa is excellent for massage's and the ladies working there are so nice. The swimming area was grand. They also had a Jacuzzi, a small steam and sauna room and kid's pool. The afternoon tea we had was gorgeous and so was the dinner and breakfast. The worker's were all very polite. Would definitely go back again!

Stayed for one night and availed of 3 course dinner, breakfast and processo. Room was perfect, clean & tidy. Welcome at reception was very good. Once we entered the bar the problems started... The manager spoke very rudely to the French waiter in front of us and other residents. My soup arrived cold, it was difficult to gather the attention of waiters/waitresses. I waited at the bar for approx 20 minutes for a drink even though there were 6 staff behind the bar. The manager again was very short with the French waiter while he was trying to locate a food order for the correct table. Megan was the only barmaid who knew what she was doing and very polite and I gather that she did not take a break when a concerned colleague told her to do so. I overheard 4 people comment on the lack of service while waiting at the bar. One male complained and wanted to speak to a manager and was told the manager is on a break!!! If this occurred in my career I would get handed my p45!!! This nale waited approx 20 mins to speak to the manger!

Very impressive hotel throughout. Was very happy with everything and was great value . The only issue I would have is the 4pm check in is far to late. The hotel is very modern good size rooms , very clean , great breakfast and a lovely bar and a great leisure centre . Would highly recommend and will stay here again

OK the best thing about this place is the food and staff. Went here with family for 2 nights and 1 was enough the pool wasn't great and room was OK. There is nothing to do around only pet farm and that's not great especially for the price. So if you get a cheap stay this is why. The staff are great it just needs a lot of work done.

The reception is beautiful and modern, the staff member who checked us in was lovely, but that's when it all went down hill. The moment we stepped off the very slow lift, we were greeted with very sickly warm heat, as you walked down the corridor you couldn't help but notice the water damage, it really sets the tone for the place, we opened our bedroom door and again we nearly had to strip off the heat was cruel, not a good night's sleep was had by anyone over the 3 nights, the bed was nothing more than a disgrace, sheets would not stay on mattresses as they were both a different height, that's when it reveled the horror that lurked beneath the sheets, I have never seen a more stained mattress and one ripped with springs ready to pop out. The bathroom has loose tiles and the bath could do with a shower mat, fairly slippy. The leisure facilities was more for the use of general public, Everytime we went down the kids swimming lessons was on and the whole pool was taken over. The changing room tiles are very very very slippery, needs grip and dispensers never full. Food- if you managed to get any it's not great, frozen burgers and frozen pizza not exactly what I like to pay E16 for. Service- well I'm still waiting for my pint of rockshore cider that the young lad asked would we like, pretty sure he left after he was spoken to by a senior member of staff, please ask him to drop it off in Kildare when he remembers. As we sat and watched the events of Wednesday night unfold, it's was pretty comical, as someone who works in the service industry the problems can easily be fixed! All 3 nights we ate in the place we had to get our own menus and cutlery, actually one night the food was dropped down, the young lad could see we hand no cutlery to eat with but just ignored it! We seen 3 other couples complain about this to the what I assume is the manager, but yet right after 1 guy exploded, we seen a table served food but waited 15mins before they got up and got cutlery themselves. Breakfast- juices need to be chilled or an ice bucket placed beside them, watching the chef refill the scramble eggs from a cracked plastic container that contained some other prepared food was pretty horrifying. Again I had to ask for cutlery also seen people served tea with no cups. Staff could do with more training, junior staff could do with more support in how to deal with complaining customers. I would recommend in the bar leaving menus on the tables and have a little bucket with cutlery in it. leaving condiments on the table would be great, it feels like your constantly asking the staff for something.

I recently held a fashion and make up masterclass in the shearwater with a local make up artist, it was our first time to do this type of event. From start to finsh the service, help and attention to detail we receieved was second to none. From Estella, the events manager, to Des and is help on the day, and all the staff, nothing was a problem, and the day ran so smooth with all their help. would highly recommend for any event, big or small. Thanks again to all the team.

My husband, our 5 month old baby & I decided last minute to go to Galway with my parents for their 40th wedding anniversary. We had booked elsewhere due to location but found out on arrival that the original hotel couldn't accommodate us. Luckily the lovely Connie at the shearwater hotel saved the day & worked wonders to get us 2 rooms even though they had a wedding on. She bent over backwards to make our stay so enjoyable. The hotel staff gave my parents a stunning family room with 2 bedrooms & a dessert plate with happy anniversary written on it. The hotel is luxurious, staff very friendly & helpful, the meals were huge & very tasty. Thank you for making my parents anniversary so special! We will definitely be back.
