Beautifully restored neo-classical hotel with lots of marble and columns. Great bar room on mezzanine; make sure you check out the Remington-esque cowboy sculpture, the Widowmaker. Staff eager to please and accommodating. Interesting location on the edge of funky Sixth Street (college kids and hippies) and desolate downtown. Room quite comfortable (I got upgraded when asked for room with a view other than another building) including comfortable love seat and new tile bath. Library in elevator foyer on each floor a nice touch.

The architecture and history of the hotel is worth seeing. A nice place to stay. It's on 6th street so if you enjoy bars and live music close by, then this is a good location.

I stayed in a vintage room; it was lovely. My only problem was my sensitive hearing. My room was relatively quiet (no door slamming, no elevator or ice machine noises) but I was able to hear a bit of a din coming from the bar music across the street. Not loud but enough that I wished I had ear plugs. I asked the front desk and not only did they give me ear plugs they offered and placed a noise machine in my room. It made all the difference. My stay was terrific. They have the best lounge in the area and what could be better than having a drink, good food, great music and essentially being home!

Totally chalked with Texas history! Beautiful, elegant and totally a must see. Best experience I have ever had.

Terrific staff. The entire hotel is beautiful. Great location downtown. Loved staying at this place.

In room announcements were made in the small hours not once but twice to tell us we NEED NOT evacuate the building. In essence, they woke everyone up to say everything was ok. Why? If there was a fire, then they should have told us to evacuate, or at least prepare to. But they were quite explicit - DO NOT EVACUATE. When I complained to the front desk, and asked for compensation for a night of NO sleep because of the repeated announcement, exactly nothing was offered. I will do my best to avoid this hotel and other Hyatt properties. They clearly have some weird policies.

My wife has stayed here several times in years past. That was before a skyscraper was being built behind the hotel - obscuring the view she previously experienced. The bar is magnificent, a reminder of the early days of luxury hotels, and the entrance with the tree decorated for the season is breathtaking. The room we had was nicely decorated, with the night tables resembling steamer trucks covered in cowhide. However, the A/C filter was dirty, and the access over the bathtub had rust. There were two coffee "bags" but the coffee brewer was missing the "pot" and the "selection of teas" was absent. Also, there were only styrofoam cups for any hot drink - really not in keeping with the upscale image of this hotel. Self-parking is virtually impossible (not offered by the hotel), although the valet parkig is efficient. The staff are very friendly and helpful. If you check in on the lobby floor (the bar is up a flight of stairs and has a separate entrace to the cross-street, you must climb up stairs to the bar level to reach the elevators. Overall, we enjoyed our stay

Booked a junior suite for a special occasion. Was told they only had regular room upon arrival. Only compensastion was a credit toward the room. If I wanted a regular room I would have reserved one at the time.

Amazing ambiance. The bar, restaurant, and cafe were great as well. Great location in the hustle and bustle of everything. Very memorable time.

Best of both worlds: Classic features like 25 foot stain glass ceilings yet modern, comfortable, re-habbed rooms. Great location near 6th street and walking distance (sort of - 1.5 miles) from UT football stadium.

Historically charming but hotel lobby smelled like decades old mildew. Thankfully the smell was contained in the lobby. The real regrettable part was the room. Because one or more sides of the hotel face the downtown bars I was kept awake with music and bass until the bars closed in the middle of the night. The 2nd night I requested ear plugs and a white noise machine - helped a bit with the sound (emphasis on a bit) but could do nothing for the reverberations. Room temperature almost impossible to regulate and pillows also smelled "off" - not quite mildew but close enough. Will not stay there again unless it's my only option.

What a beautiful, clean, elegant, fun, solid Austin 'citizen'. Great bar and entertainment - a lot going on with downstairs tea to live entertainment in the handsomely carved and stained glass bar. We ate dinner at the Grill and were overwhelmed with the quality (and the pricetag) as well as having an outstanding breakfast downstairs........... and David at the front desk made sure we had our bearings and pointers on the area. I would certainly send friends though I would tell them to request away from the elevator shaft - it was pretty active at times. The rooms were very beautiful and the housekeeping perfect.

Room was rehabbed recently. No hot water at sink, no lights at sink or electricity at sink. Bathroom door would not close for privacy. Will not stay their again nor recommend it to anyone. Room 414 in old section. Tolbert Chisum

I had a wonderful one night stay at The Driskill. The hotel is beautiful. I was a real nerd, taking pictures everywhere I went. Valet and check-in were a breeze. My room was lovely, spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet. I actually took a bath, which I never do at a hotel. So relaxing! The location of the hotel is PERFECT a woman can walk alone to great shopping and dining. Every recommendation I received from the staff for restaurants and shopping was spot on. The bakery off the lobby has fabulous desserts. Only complaint valet parking fee was really expensive.

GM upgraded our room which made for an unforgettable weekend! This is an A+ hotel.

Amazing hotel. Loved it all. Right in the midst of Austin, this hotel has a great feel to it and a very comfortable bed. Booked it right after SXSW and got a killer deal. The shampoos and soaps were some of the best I've ever used in a hotel. The location allows you to go anywhere in Austin and the hotel itself is gorgeous. Loved it!

I loved being in the heart of downtown and the staff was very helpful.

Near the fun. Great staff and bartenders. Fun decor. Really made my first visit to Austin memorable and delightful. No disappointing elements.

Review you bill after you get home, I was told at check out I had no outstanding charges, however I was charged for the mini-bar, and I did not even accept the key to open it from checkout.

The hotel staff was awesome, and gave us a complementary bar tab of 2 drinks each for our anniversary celebration start. Nice touch!! Was a great 35th!!!
