This motel, not a hotel, is convenient to Lakeway. But, it has very basic everything. If you’re looking for a good price and no frills, stay here. Remember what I said, cheap and warm. Bring earplugs for the wall bangers heaters/air conditioners. The new owners are very nice. They will do what they can to make you happy.
Lovely quiet hotel, great price for the excellent location. Nice people, clean quiet room with super comfy bed, and a lovely view of the pool and rolling hills from the nice balcony. No frills hotel that is currently being fixed up, I have a feeling that when they are finished the rooms will cost a lot more to stay in. So close to Hamilton Pool and Downtown Austin, 15 minutes either way. Very convenient if you want to stay away from the insane traffic and crowds.
M wife an I were disappointed after reading other reviews. This is a old hotel which is being refurbished. When we were there the lobby was having new flooring installed. Our room had new bath fixtures, new flooring, fresh paint and was clean. It did not have a closet. Lighting was not adequate, some bulbs were burned out, there were no bedside reading lights and we could not turn on the ceiling light or fan (perhaps we could find the proper switch). Heating and air conditioning was provided by a wall unit which preformed adequately. The room was smaller than we expect in hotel rooms today. Unfortunately refurbishing can only do so much without making some structure changes. Breakfast was a waffle, cereal, donuts, or other items which contained gluten, so not much for a celiac who must be gluten-free. I did eat a banana. In my opinion this motel would not compare favorably to any chain budget hotel. I had the feeling they were working on a tight budget. I wish them luck but I will not be back.
The front desk guy would not take the credit card I offered to pay with. It was my live in partner's card that he had given me to take a few days getaway to Austin and San Antonio. He looked at it and gave it back saying that I was breaking the law. I told him that I pay with my partners credit card without a problem anywhere else. He kept telling me it was illegal to use it and refused it. I explained to him that I've stayed at the hotel numerous times and he did not attempt to check on any of that. He was rude and caused me to feel like a common criminal by his attitude. Also they quoted us over %155 for the night and online the prices are $120. So I drove down the road south a little ways and get a room at a nice new hotel that had no problem at all with my form of payment. I have never had this issue at any hotel before. Strange.
The Mountain Star Lodge and Hotel is a very classy small hotel with wings forming semi-circle around a pool and arbor. While main doors open from parking areas on outside of this arrangement there is another door leading to the lawn and pool area on the groun floor or to a balcony overlooking the enclosed private garden area. The hotel serves a continental breakfast but has no restaurant. Each room does have a refrigerator, microwave oven and coffee-maker with selections of coffees and teas for making in the room.
my fiance and I stayed here for a wedding at star hill ranch on April 22nd. we ended getting a suite room (not sure if all the rooms are suites) with an awesome view that overlooked the hill country. it was perfect! we used ride austin to get to 6th street and it was only $20. the breakfast was pretty good, the room and restroom were nice. since we got the suite we ended up having extra room for my fiance's brother and his gf and we still had plenty of privacy. it was such a great stay even if it was just for one night.
We were very pleased with our room. We had made reservations for 2 nights and when we got there he only had us down for one night. He upgraded us to a suite. He didn't have to do that. They are new owners only been there for 10 months. They are working very hard to make things nice. The suite was recently remodeled and had a balcony that had a totally awesome view!!
This hidden hotel was fantastic ! We had a updated room with brand new hardwoods, beds 💤 and a huge balcony. The fog was the only thing obscuring the beautiful view. This family run business aims to please and scored a home run ⚾️I can not wait for my next visit to The Mountain Star Lodge!
The hotel and room was clean. The furnishings were nice. The couple who runs the hotel is very friendly. On the downside, the walls are very thin. We could hear so much going on around us. We asked about breakfast at the time that it should've been closed, and he kept out what was left for a little bit longer for us. It wasn't much, so I can't comment on how good the breakfast actually is, but it was still very sweet that he extended the breakfast time for us.
The manager is friendly and accommodating. Housekeeping does a great job. The hotel is still being remodeled, so one can see construction items tucked under the outside stairs. The hotel is quiet, with comfy beds, lots of hot water in showers, and each room looks out over the pool and the Tx hill country. Bring your own pillow though (I always do!,) because the pillows were really big and rather hard. The breakfast is minimal with cereal, oatmeal, pancakes and some fruit. Location is great...only 5 min.s away from the Hill Country Galleria. Although this hotel is small, I prefer to stay here over the other hotel in the area...because Mountain Star Lodge is a good, affordable and comfortable stay.
