Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan

Affordable Luxury

We loved our stay at the Old Cataract. I'd read some reviews about how it was past its hey-day, but we didn't feel that way at all. The service was excellent, from the bag handlers and golf-cart driver from the gate, to the reception, to the servers, and the pool staff. The food was more expensive than other places in Egypt, but we loved everything we ate. We had lunch on the Terrace, room service dinner, afternoon tea on the Terrace (what a view!) and they also made breakfast boxes for us to take at 6 am on our day trip to Abu Simbel. We had a late-afternoon Nile cruise to go visit one of the Nubian villages and since the Old Cataract is literally right on the Nile, they picked us up on the private dock. They must have upgraded us to a suite without us asking, because the room was huge! And gorgeous. The pool was clean and the view exceptional. And the pool staff were very kind, coming by with fruit skewers, spray bottles, and cold wet towels for our faces as we sunbathed. The whole experience exceeded all expectations.

Helnan Aswan Hotel

Aswan Helnan, excellent stay.

The hotel and grounds were beautiful. Excellent view of the Nile. Our original room was in the main building with a balcony and Nile view. We saw there were some additional rooms close to the swimming pool (which was across the street, but you can cross via the tunnel) and checked to see if we could move. We were willing to pay the price difference, but the Manager accommodated the request with no additional charges. It was an excellent Hotel and the Staff was exceptional.
