We've visited this hotel once & we decided that there's no better place to have our wedding than the old cataract. Starting from the location, ultimate friendliness of the staff, food, serenity & luxury of the rooms to the extreme professionalism of the new GM Ahmed el Shandawili who absolutely turned this place into a phenomenal experience not only for us but for all our guests who were staying in the hotel. Ahmed not only delivered our requests but he actually exceeded them by far. A truly unforgettable experience that each & every member of this hotel contributed to in order to make our dream come true & make it a truly impeccable one. There's nothing that our guests requested that hasnt been assisted by the hotel staff with all pleasure. Words will never be enough to express our gratitude, appreciation & respect to each & every member of the old cataract team for their continuos efforts in giving us such pride to remember our special day with such a flawless experience

By accident we booked garden view. What we got was a view on a little garden, a dusty hill with an abandoned building and an abandoned construction site next to it. Very disappointing considering the booking level of the hotel these days. Make sure, you book Nile View, ideally with one of the plenty lovely wooden balconies. That makes 25% of the stay. I found all food short of excellent, particularly the "like anywhere" menu on the main/legendary terrace. Jacket required in the beautiful 1902 fine dining restaurant. The included Internet is artificially slowed down to sell the high speed option. This is quite annoying and outdated. The whole rest of the experience is unique and special like described in greater detail in other reviews. The entire team is very engaged, kind and helpful. The tour of the Churchill and Christie suites was very interesting. Thanks a lot for this.

Our stay at the Old Cataract Hotel was the highlight of our trip to Egypt! The room was beautiful and luxurious, the food was wonderful, the location was great, and the service was truly remarkable. We wished we could have stayed longer!

Best stay ever and the most relaxing hotel I've ever stayed in 😍😍 I recommend this hotel to every person 😍 my brother in law had his wedding over there and it was one hell of a night everyone including myself had an amazing time ♥️

What can i say the hotel is just perfect from the decor to the impeccable service we had a wonderful stay and will definitely go back. We stayed in the old building and which we preferred because of it's history but the new building is as nice with amazing balconies overlooking the nile

The old cataract is a beautiful hotel, made so ultimately by the scenic, historic views of the Nile and the boats and of course by the fantastic staff. Always ready and eager to assist with professionalism, promptness and a wonderful smile. We were there for our friends wedding and even as busy the hotel was they never disappoint! We were so happy with out stay and hope to be back again soon!!!

The hotel is divided in 2 units, both are amazing. The old part more traditional and old style but very well maintained and clean, the second more modern but very nice. I suggest the old part but really both are great. We were lucky and got the suite 1120 with huge terrace where you have to have breakfast in the morning. It is like to step back 100 years but with 5 stars comfort. For sure highly advice. The photos are from our room :)

Nothing but the best from Sofitel , really big luxurious room with all the mod cons , 6 Star Service from Check in to check out , The decor in this hotel is stunning as is the views from rooms & restaraunts over the the Nile oasis, bed comfort is great , huge bath room with tub . Nice big pool , good gym , honestly you won’t be disappointed with this place

I came to the hotel hoping to purchase a necklace for my mom knowing how her favorite author is Agatha Christie. We were not guests of the hotel but we walked in after lunch and found a jewelry shop in the lobby. Unfortunately the man who runs the shop was on a break and would return later in 2 hours. We said that was completely fine and asked if we could enjoy some tea in the meantime on the historic patio. We were given nothing but attitude... told we must purchase a minimum amount, a full meal (we had just eaten), and that the patio is for guests only. I would completely understand some of these rules had it been crowded, obviously hotel guests get priority, but there was only one woman around sitting on her laptop with 30+ tables unused. I repeatedly told them we are just waiting until the man re-opens his shop and I'm about to purchase several pieces of expensive jewelry.. but that made no difference. They still wouldn't let us just sit and enjoy tea without a minimum charge. They eventually told us to just come back in 2 hours but we said goodbye and that we would not return. I found the exact same necklace in the bazaar the next day for likely 1/4 of the price. I was happy to give my money to the kind man in his local shop rather than an extremely rude hotel. Everyone in our 2 weeks in Egypt were the most hospitable people we've met in our entire lives... except for the ones working at the Old Cataract. If this is how we were treated just wanting a necklace I can imagine how rude they would be if we were guests and used their facilities regularly.

One of the best hotels you can ever stay in. The view of the Nile is more than amazing, the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The service and crew are really nice. The food is perfect. I loved it and I will definitely go back.
