My room was clean, provided quick and easy access to the outside for the needs of my service dog, and frankly was a fabulous respite from difficult travel and meeting experiences. I plan to stay here regularly.
We arrived at the Extended Stay America University South and were offered an upgrade. Our room was on the second floor, we were staying for 8 days and there was an awful smell that justified the upgrade. It smelled like some animal was decaying in one of the rooms. Bad enough to make you hold your breath and have your card ready..... The room was fine but we limited our time in the hotel due to the hallway smell, which thank goodness did not impact our room. The lobby looks dated and a bit worn or dirty. The staff was very friendly and resupplied us in toilettereis. My room rate was reasonable but I would check on whether the 2nd floor is fully usable before booking another stay. The breakfast is a grab and go breakfast with oatmal packets, cereal bars, and muffins, all store bought. If you like a big, fresh breakfast, go somewhere else.
My headband and I stayed at the hotel for one night. Upon check in at 4 in the afternoon there was no one at the front desk. We rang the bell 5-6 times, called with no answer and after 10-15 minutes the front desk attendant came to the desk smelling strongly of cigarette smoke. The room was clean and had a full kitchen however no coffee pot, no utensils, no glasses, no plates, no hair dryer so I'm unsure what the full kitchen was for since there were no supplies to use it. Thankfully we didn't have plans to use the kitchen. The bed was extremely uncomfortable which we probably would have looked over had the staff not been so unprofessional. Upon checkout again there was no one at the front desk, but you could hear loud laughter and talking from the back. We had to ring the bell twice before someone came to help us checkout. They had the price of the room wrong and we had to argues with the staff before she pulled our receipt that we signed at check in showing the correct price. Our check out was also interrupted due to another staff member coming to the front desk to borrow a lighter from the person checking us out. Again these other staff members were in the back loud swearing etc during our checkout. Lots of hotels in This area that are similarly priced if not better priced. Would not stay here again.
They charged me $400/night to stay here. Yes, it was a football weekend in Ann Arbor, so I can understand prices will get high. However, the service we received was sub-standard to say the least. If you are going to charge $400/night, you better provide some basics. No maid service to make up the room. No new towels each day. "We're an extended stay hotel". Sorry, if you're going to charge $400/night, you can't get by saying that. If you charged me $60/night, I'd have an easier time accepting that. No opportunity to get extra pillows for the room! "Sorry, we're all out." But the best was when they were out of coffee in their "breakfast" room at 9:30am. I asked them if they could make some more and was told "Sorry, breakfast has ended". REALLY??? For $400/night I can't even get a cup of coffee?? The room itself was old and decrepit. The sink faucet was not secured; while there was a stove and refrigerator there were absolutely no plates, utensils, or even cups! We were awoken in the middle of the night by either a freight train or a loud truck in the parking lot. The toilet paper almost ran out and the room was tiny. I won't stay there again.
Visiting for football games make their prices seem extremely high for a very basic extended stay hotel room. Room was large, it had all the appliances. But the AC was loud and the non-smoking room, still smelled smoky.
The room was clean and comfortable. I used the guest laundry and the detergent machine was empty. The front desk clerk gave me a box much larger than the machine offered. Washed all my clothes and had some detergent left over...sometimes the little things make a difference.
My family and I were traveling through on our annual trip to northern Michigan. I chose this hotel because it had rooms large enough to fit our family of five and it allowed dogs (for a reasonable $25/night fee). Upon arriving there was no one at the front desk. I rang the "doorbell" sitting on the front desk twice as I waited. As I stood there for over five minutes I eventually decided to call them to see if someone would answer. As it was ringing I finally heard someone come in the back office door. She came in and simply asked if I was checking in. No apology for not being there and making me wait. As I am checking in I can smell the smoke on her. Obviously, I had been waiting there so she could take a smoke break. Which was interesting since there are a ton of signs upon entering informing customers this is a no smoking facility and there is no smoking within 100 feet of the building. The room was large with two full beds and a sofa bed, full kitchen (which we didn't use) and an average sized bathroom. Plenty of room for the five of us and our dog to spread out. The room was dated, but clean. The bed was very firm. The shower drain needed to be cleaned out as I was standing in about two inches of water by the end of my shower and had to wait for it to drain before anyone else could shower. Also, the train was nearby because I heard it go by a couple times during the night. Breakfast was coffee, oatmeal, and some muffins. Overall, I thought it was reasonable for the price of $135/night for the size of the room and number of beds. It worked for us as a one night hotel.
This is an extended stay hotel where trash cans are in the stairwells for the residents to use , because of waste from kitchens, etc.. I have been here 2 days, they have not been emptied, they are overflowing. I told the front desk about it. They said their maintenance man hasn't been in for two days, and they can't do anything about it. I asked for the manager, they said none on site.. I called corp headquarters to register my complaint and was on hold over 12 min, message just repeating that all reps were busy, so I never got through to speak with a rep. I emailed headquarters to register my complaint. We still have the trash and odor from it. The stairs are dirty in the stairwells. We notice because we walk stairs to keep healthy. I would leave, but am prepaid for 4days through online site.
We stayed for 9 days while a family member was in the hospital. The room was spacious and comfortable, but the cleanliness level needed an upgrade. There is no room service; hence, you have to go to the front desk for everything from cups to toiler paper. The front desk staff were awesome, though! The location is fairly convenient as well.
My husband and I have stayed here for the past five or six years to attend football games, usually for 2 -3 weeks. This year the rooms had been painted, there were new furnishings (couch, chairs, dining stools in kitchen, sink and countertop in bathroom, and carpet). As a result, it was cleaner than usual. Instead of leaving kitchen items in the room, you are now provided with a "kit" of dishes, utensils, a couple of pans, toaster, coffemaker and dishtowel. Again, these were cleaner than in previous years, when those items remained in cupboards and drawers from guest to guest. Housekeeping can be sketchy and doesn't always show up on the appointed day (you get one cleaning a week included in the rate.) The front desk staff is stellar. Cedric provided a very warm welcome when we arrived and actually came and cleaned our room himself when housekeeping failed to show for several days. Jenna and Dayna were also both great. The big test for management will be to maintain the facilities in their cleaner, more welcoming condition as the newness wears off.
