It was a very nice hotel
We were put in a room by the elevator and heard the grinding noise day and night. It sounded like living under a bowling alley. When you are staying in a room for five days they should be more aware of the problems some of their room have!! They offered us to move/ I had already unpacked and hung up clothes...etc..not the best choice of a room!!!
This is an acceptable property with the exception of the wifi network and the location. The network connection if flaky for guests. "TheCaptianCookHotel" is for guests and is unreliable. "CaptainCookHotel" is available around the front desk and is meant for the front desk personnel, but it can be accessed publicly in the area around the front desk, but not in other areas. In order to get the wifi to work in your hotel room, you will have to complain and ask that the "engineer" reset to router. Then it will work for several hours. The other issue with this property is the location, since it is located in a "food desert". If you do not have a rental car and want to grocery shop and eat in your hotel room to be safe from COVID, you will be out of luck. Also, the restaurant options are limited since many of them have gone out of business, have limited hours, or close sporadically. So, you have to depend on the hotel restaurants and coffee shop for food, along with a few restaurants around the hotel. On the other hand, the hotel is near the train station, within a 15 min walk.
Comped room upgrade on second buy. Dining options including Room Service. Showing some age with cracked wall/ ceiling plaster our room could have been better cleaned. Asked for Email receipt for each visit, but never received.
The only downfall is no parking and they told us to park on the street ,free on the weekends, the problem is they did not tell us there was a marathon the next morning, we did not see the little sign on the sidewalk and they towed our rental car away !
Very walkable with great service from the bell hops and the concierge, The only con was waiting to check in for the room.
The view from the Crow’s Nest was great.
Convenient and comfortable
This hotel is the best in anchorage. Easy to walk to great dining locations and sites. We did the trolley tour which was a quick 4 min walk from the hotel. The only complaint I have is the parking. We were stuck paying for valet because we were literally trapped in the front and had to get to our tour. When we checked with the front desk they said “we can park off site at our own risk”. I feel the hotel should atleast recommend offsite locations but we ended up paying $36 a day in valet since we couldn’t get out of the sea of cars after we checked in
I grew up in Anchorage attended a ton of events here but never had a reason to stay. The rooms were lovely and comfortable. I will definitely stay here again.
Hotel Captain Cook was a great place to stay, with an upscale feel, comfortable beds, large rooms, and excellent dining options both within the hotel itself as well as within walking distance. The staff was very friendly and helpful - and the water pressure in the shower was amazing after a week of traveling around Alaska!
The rooms are a little outdated but the experience was nice. We went during a busy weekend so my neighbor room was quite loud but that’s not the hotels fault, overall a good experience

Hi Mark, Thank you for your post but let me spend a moment providing clarity. The networks you mentioned are all for guests only. The Front Office has a locked Front Desk network. There is a grocery store within walking distance of the Hotel and Instacart is also available. All the restaurants downtown are open and some have limited operating hours i.e. closed on Sun/Mon however it was the same pre pandemic. Thank you for your post and we look forward to your next visit. Ryan
