Pretty good.

Location is very good - close to central station and the bars etc. Usual set up for this type of Amsterdam hotel - tiny frontage (a door and stairs), and a bit of a warren inside. Staff fine. Very steep stairs to upper floors - also the steps very shallow - easy to fall especially if with cases etc. The room was very recently renovated. Very clean and liked the minimalist style. I was in twin - bed was small - but singles aren’t exactly large. Of this profile of hotel in Amsterdam this is quite good.

Location is great. Price was ok.

Location near Centraal train station is excellent. Breakfast offered is a 10% discount at nearby restaurants. No elevator and rooms are at least two floors up from street. Some stairs narrow and steep.

Great stay near Centraal Station

The hotel is very clean and staff is helpful. There a a lot of steep stairs to navigate and no elevator, but staff members happily helped us with our luggage. Room is very minimalist but the location is wonderful, so we enjoyed our stay very much!

Hotel was perfectly located, five minutes from the central station. Our room was lovely and clean, with a comfy bed and, most importantly, air conditioning. It’s been 30 degrees celcius and over every day we’ve been in Amsterdam, and coming back to a perfectly cooled room was a life saver. Thank you for a great stay!

The spiral staircases are so narrow and luggages are so hard to take up there if you are lucky to have your room on the higher floor. Its like an accident waiting to happen if you are not careful going up or going down.

Hotel Van Gelder is 6 minutes from the central train station and heart of the attraction street. Location wise it’s busy and close to everything. The hotel is older/classic but kept well. My 13 yrs old daughter and I stayed at the third floor and the stairs are wild: steep and narrow. There wasn’t an elevator but we only had two carryons.

Perfect stay

Great little hotel right in the centre of Amsterdam. Our room was on the top floor, and yes the stairs are extremely tight but this is typical of all old dutch buildings. We were in room 18 which has just been refurbished and the place was immaculate. Staff were all really friendly and helpful. 5 minute stroll from the train station so really accessible. We would definately stay here again withiut any hesitation.

Amazingly quiet, great location by Centraal Statuo

Amazingly quiet given the location. Much nicer than the “fashion” hotel a few doors down which was loud. Steps from Centraal Station but somehow as quiet as the country.

Stayed in a deluxe room. Very modern room and extremely clean. We were located on the top floor and the stairs are very steep. Not an issues for us but could be problematic for those with mobility issues. Staff very friendly and conveniently located less than 10 mins from central station and dam square. Would recommend and stop here again

A very nice clean hotel that is very central. Close to all major attractions. Staff are very nice and helpful. Rooms have all that you need. Bathroom small but good facilities. The bar is nice with a good view. Would stay again.

Great central location and handy to the central railway station. Loved that we could walk out onto the busy street area with plenty of eateries and shops. Staff were very helpful, English wasn’t a problem. Just be prepared with strong arms to lug your suitcases up the stairs. 😊 The small room we chose worked well for us. Overall a great place to stay.

Great location, great staff, unfortunately rather tired & dated and in need of renovation & no tea/coffee making facilities which in the 21st century is a must. Also I know the Dutch are tall, but not everyone is 6ft+ tall… the bathroom mirror was so high I could only see the top of my head, so no use for applying make-up.

The Hotel van Gelder was one of my favorite hotels during my two week stay in Europe. My superior single room had air conditioning, unlike my other more expensive rooms in Austria, Germany, and Croatia. When I checked in I was greeted by Khalid, a very friendly person who had lots of information about local eateries and places to visit. The room was nice and clean and looks like it was recently remodeled. Some people probably didn't like the steps, but I stayed on the third floor and I didn't mind. If I ever get back to Amsterdam and am traveling alone, I would definitely stay here again.

The staff at this property is superb. They take great care of each person who is checking in or out. Friendly and very personal! They are even willing to help with luggage up the very traditional Dutch Spiral Stairs.

Nice, reasonable, clean, convenient hotel - STAIRS

Probably a typical Amsterdam "small" hotel in a former 5-6 story narrow, large house. Thus, be prepared for LOTS of stairs (no elevator) -- 2 flights just to reach the reception desk. Then 2 more curved narrow flights to floor 4 or 2 more to floor 6.Office can sell drinks and snacks for a small fee. I booked a single room which was adequate and clean, with a portable fan, small desk, and TV. A concern is the VERY slippery shower floor which hnearly caused me to slip each time. I had to hold on to the bar on the wall for my entire shower. The bathroom mirror was mounted for a 6 ft, 7 inch man, not a 5 ft, 5 inch female. Staff were friendly and helpful. Central Train Station was 2 blocks away and several Canal Tours began across the street. Lots of food businesses everywhere in closest 3 blocks, including a grocery market near this hotel.

Awesome property in the city center. Great AC and shower. Clean and comfortable. Lost a star because even though i had the Do Not Disturb option on the door, the cleaning lady decided it was her job to bang on my door at 10 am to make sure i knew checkout was at 11 am. my alarm was set fir 10:45 and everything was packed for a long trip that i needed the extra sleep fir.
