Staff speaks English well. Place is a walking distance from the tram station and near a park. The place is well organized Rooms are spic and span. Breakfast affordable €10 The only downside was that there were some occupants who were a bit noisy. Probably thinking others were not sleeping early 😉
I'm usally not the one to complain but this time I have to advice you against booking this place if you're thinking about staying at their private rooms. So I paid 703 euros for four nights for two people in the premium doubles, which comes out to 175 per night. So this is similar to a hotel, but this is a hostel, so a stripped down hotel. I was told that this was with the 15% discount since I booked through their own website. So it would've come out to over 200 per night. They said their premium room would come with "complementary toiletries" which I guess was soap and toilet paper, which as for me, is not really anything I would brag about for 200 euro per night. It should just be a given. But then again, this is a hostel. Not a hotel. And they couldn't even include the 8.50€ breakfast for that price. And that 8.50 breakfast included some dried up scrambled eggs and a tiny baguette. Not worth 8.50. But: hostel. They can overprice and stupid uninformed people, like myself at that time, will still pay for it. The hostel is a nice place and the staff I encountered were nice. The rooms were clean and with a nice view over a cozy park. (But if you're going to brag about the view you should clean the windows at least). Renting a bike gives you no trouble at all getting to city centre or just take the tram which was close by. As I said, if you consider staying at their private rooms, I suggest you go to a hotel instead, its basically the same price with more of the "hotel benifits". But if you get a better price for the rooms and that you are aware that this is a hostel, not a hotel, then I would defenitely recommend this place. Or if you are planning on booking a bed at their dorms. But as for me, I had the notion that something more would be included in the price which is why I booked this, but it wasn't and I got rather dissapointed by the whole thing. This is why I give the 2 stars. Otherwise a nice trip to Amsterdam.
I wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Good location. Great rooms. The fanciest bunk beds I’ve ever been in but then again I haven’t been in a hostel for 7years. I can’t fault it. The beds are clean. The social areas are quirky.
I had a great stay at this hostel. I couldn't believe how unique the location was: it's in an old school in the middle of an amazing park, and its full of art and decorations. This really sets it apart from other hostels that I've stayed. The rooms and bathrooms were nice, and the common areas (which they call the auditorium and the library, after their use in the old school) were great places to hang out. It's a tram ride away from the party neighborhoods and the historical city center. I would certainly stay here again
Very new and up to date hostel! The staff were great and always willing to help! Good food and comfy bed, Very affordable, close to public transport and only 10min walk to the city centre!! Best hostel I’ve stayed in by a mile!
this hostel is an absolutely amazing place to stay! I recently stayed with three of my friends for a post exams trip and we all absolutely loved it. Firstly, the staff were very nice and helpful and checking in and out was super easy. The facilities themselves are amazing and the whole place is extremely well thought out and imaginatively designed. The repurposed features of the old zoological university are so creative and made a real difference from any other hostel or even hotel I have ever stayed at. The actual bedrooms were also wonderful. We stayed in a private four bed room with ensuite in which the bathroom was very clean with a great shower. The beds were extremely extremely comfortable and everyone remarked on how well they slept every night. The whole room was so thoughtfully designed, making sure that the small space didn't feel cramped at all.The hostel itself is located in the beautiful Oosterpark which was really nice instead of being in the touristy centre from Amsterdam. It is about a 20-30 minute walk into the centre but the walk itself is lovely, passing botanical gardens and a zoo where you can just walk in a see the animals. There are lots of nice cafes around as well and we felt we really got a sense of true dutch life rather than the more touristy side where our friends side. All in all, our stay at Generator was extremely comfortable, enjoyable and memorable and I would highly recommend it to anyone! Thank you Generator!!
Stayed here with a group of friends, in a dorm accommodating 4. The beds were comfy and it was nice having an en-suite. Room service came daily, and the rooms were clean on arrival. The hostel has a prime location, less than 5 minutes walk away from public transport and is easily found within the park. There are plenty of extra services available, including a games room and an area to drink. The only downside was that food was fairly expensive to order - over 10 Euros for a small breakfast. I would definitely recommend the hostel for a short stay with mates.
The location is about a 20 min walk from city centre, & they offer bike rentals. Super friendly staff, very clean & updated facilities. It’s on the nicer end as far as hostels go, but the price does reflect that. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner and drinks at the full bar everyday. All in all I recommend this hostel! We had a great time.
Dirty rubbish left on bed in top bunk. Strangers walked into our private room - overbooked. No security. Broken air conditioning unit stuck on 28c on a summers day - unable to turn off.no help from the reception.
The hostel is located near to the city. All the attarctions are at walkable distance. The rooms were good. The washrooms are in the rooms itself. It has got a good restaurant and the hostel is surrounded by a huge garden which beautifies the view from the hostel.
