After having stayed at the Generator in Barcelona we kind of knew what the Generator Hostels are about. Good atmosphere, excellent location and excellent customer service. This was not the case in Amsterdam. The front desk could use improvement and the fact that I had to make my own bed was not the highlight of my trip. The food there however is excellent and the vibes are still pretty cool. I am hoping that at our next stay in a Generator they will include towels at no cost. Other than that it is a perfect place to stay at with family and kids as security is excellent!

Being on a budget due to last minute business trip, I decided to stay the weekend at my own expense - I therefore chose the "sharing" option. Overall, it's above average in terms of onsite amenities, decor and location. However, this really doesn't justify the high rates - it's a hostel ! Positives: well designed dormitories, quiet despite shared environment, good decor, good breakfast. Negatives: way too expensive for a hostel, dorm cleanliness not up to scratch for the price, reception welcome pretty inexistant.

If all hostels were this good people wouldn't need hotels. Cant recommend highly enough, the beds are some of the most comfortable beds i've ever slept in! The decor and design is very nice, and the hostel is very clean. All tram lines that you could need are 5 minutes walk from the front door and you can but the tickets in the hostel. As a group of 4 30 year old women we found the hostel to be as good as a hotel for the weekend.

The building its beuatiful, the rooms are greats and very clean, the location in the oysterpark its beautiful too and its very safe, the service is average, not bad, but they cand be more friendly and helpful.

An excellent hostel with a great atmosphere. It's a bit outside of the Center, but located in a large park (next to which 3 different city bus lines pass). The internet was a bit weak only sometimes, but outside of that everything was beautiful.

This hostel is enormous!! Had a great time here, but feel there was a lack of communication on there part. We ordered breakfast with our rooms, but were turned away as we never had a card?! It was our last day so we took it no further, but weren't given any breakfast card, leaving us hungry and confused. A lot of private functions going on throughout our stay, giving us limited access to the on site bar and facilities. Room was warm and comfy :)

Great location even though it's not directly in the city, great staff that was quick to help me whenever I needed. Great time! I will be using Generator whenever I happen to travel to a place that they have a branch in now

We stayed in a premium room, The room itself was very modern and had a beautiful view from the big windows of the surrounding Oosterpark (Room 325). It was a bit disappointing in the premium room to have only 1 towel each for the whole 4 day stay without being changed for the whole duration. The toiletries could have been better. The bed was comfortable and the building itself very Trendy and interesting history behind it as it was an old zoological university! It would be great if the bar would stay open longer for food and perhaps drinks as it would have been ideal seeing as so many people hung around the hostel at night. The staff could have been friendlier! Overall, The hostel is a guaranteed comfortable stylish place as all the generators around the world are but i personallywould not stay again because of the distance to the city centre

Generator is always a good place to stay, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and always clean. Lockers provided too and they are spacious as well. The beds are comfy and clever design understanding our need to be connected so have USB socket and plug socket at each bed, as well as additional sockets within the room too. The hostel is located on the edge of a peaceful park which is nice and just a sort walk to cafes for some light lunch, and the centre is just 30 minutes walk.

We spent a long weekend with the family in Amsterdam and had a pleasant stay at Generator Hostel. Clean rooms, small but well planned, Nice social areas with bars, chill areas and table tennis. I would book this again if going to Amsterdam
