Fly from the Dallas area to Nairobi, a city that serves as a perfect launching point for safaris to Nairobi National Park or Lake Naivasha. The city itself is just as wild and rich with entertainment, featuring a robust nightlife along with museums and arts centers. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) can be reached by taxi, car, the DART or TRE trains. A flight from DFW can have you in Nairobi in about 20 hours.
Nairobi's largest draw for visitors is the natural beauty and wildlife that surrounds it. You can see the region's largest creatures at the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage or see everything from majestic zebras to ferocious large cats at Hell's Gate National Park. Rent a raft and brave the wild waters of the Tana River. In the city, you'll find the Nairobi National Museum, featuring expansive exhibits covering the city's history. Uhuru Gardens offers a natural paradise within the heart of the city.
Taxis can take you from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) directly to your destination in the city. Much of Nairobi is navigable on foot, but taxis and bus services are available. Tour companies offer expeditions to the surrounding safari destinations. The cimate is relatively consistent throughout the year, so you can expect average highs in the 70s and lows ranging from the mid-50s to low 60s. Visit on June 1 to experience Madaraka Day, the celebration of Kenyan independence.
