MY only complaint is that the room was really small.
Great location, and a lovely building. Room was on the smallish side, but it had a truly great bathroom and was suitably appointed. Everything was clean, well ordered, and the bed was very comfortable. Staff was excellent.
The staff is very friendly. Location perfect within walking distance to downtown. Food is very good and great Happy Hour. All in all, the hotel is very quaint and service riented.

Built in 1923, the Inn is very unique and cozy. The bathroom was nicely tiled and comfortable. The room was great, including the robes in the closet. Had room service for breakfast and was very good. No microwave in the room. The resurant was excellent. The staff was fantastic.
Fabulous 1930s hotel, updated with modern amenities. Our room appears to have been recently (and tastefully) redecorated. Friendly staff and gorgeous bar and dining room. Both meals we ate there were outstanding. Two free drink medalions at check-in were appreciated, as were the cookies left each day in our room and in the lobby. Walk of only a few blocks to historic downtown with many interesting shops and more food choices. Outstanding value. Can’t say enough about this classic inn.
We enjoyed our stay at the Exeter Inn. The European-style room was cozy but we wished the bed was a tad more comfy. The great customer service, ease of checking in/our and the amenities the inn had to offer (in-house EPOCH restaurant, turndown service, coffee and tea service) made our stay memorable!

The hotel has incredible charm and fine wood molding work. It is very beautiful in places and the staff is friendly. Our room, while spacious, needed some upgrading. There was an old, musty smell in the hallways and in our room.
Nice, traditional and quaint hotel. Stayed for five (5) nights..however..husband and I woke up with bad backs every morning due to terrible mattress.
Exeter Inn is very well located, walking distance from the commercial center. Perfect for the ones visiting the Exeter Academy.
Based on the high user reviews I was expecting more. When I checked in I was told the room had a detached bathroom! The bathroom was across the hall and near other rooms. I've stayed at some real dives but I have never heard of a detached bathroom. I asked for another room and was told there were no more anywhere the coast. In addition the room was tiny and REALLY musty smelling. The room was the size of a closet and was next to a sloped wall that hit you in the head every time you walked around the bed.
It was wonderful! The breakfast in the morning was amazing. They also had turn down service where they left a bathrobe out on the bed and chocholate chip cookies! It was a short walk to the center of town (lots of shops, walking trail on the river). Also a short drive to Kittery and Ogunquit.
