We didn’t last 10 minutes in the room we were given , it was absolutely terrible, couldn’t shut window so it was cold damp wallpaper was coming of walls , bed was tidy it would of be luck if we both fitted in it , bathroom was very small , very dated indeed , we were both shocked , we came out and paint and wallpaper coming off walls coming down main stairs , spoke to guy at desk saying we can’t stay in a room like that and he wasn’t bothered one bit , and just said hum, I wouldn’t recommend anybody staying there it’s absolutely disgusting, we had to travel up to fort William to find another room , really should be getting a full refund, not happy at all with this hotel .

Reception staff had poor communication skills. English wasn’t their first language. No parking available despite there being empty parking spaces. We arrived at 4pm. Heard raised voices from other disgruntled customers

Entrance door out of order, dingy reception once we figured out how to gain access! Staff were forlorn and disengaged. Felt like a scene from a weird horror movie. Creaky stairs, out of order lift, dingy corridor led us to a sad, little room. Unloved with shabby decor, so tired and felt like an abandoned refuge shelter. Hot water was cold, a touch of mould on the bathroom tiles and toilet paper was on the opposite wall from the toilet. We stayed away from the hotel as much as possible during our three day stay in Oban. Every moment we spent in there sucked a bit more joy from our souls. If you want to feel like you live in a refuge centre book this hotel. No joy or happiness lives here. If I had paid £20 a night I would have been disappointed.......but £80 a night!!!! Worst value for money I have ever encountered.

First room 311, was extremely noisy due to loose tiles or boards on the outside of the window. In addition, the shower head was flat on the floor as the water was gushing out. The room was not prewarmed and welcoming. After notifying reception we were told nothing else was available. After about 2 hours the receptionist came to our room to tell us he could offer an upgrade. The second room 129, was larger and better but the heating didnt work. We were given an oil filled radiator. Both rooms were not in good repair, particularly the bathrooms. The receptionist was friendly and did his best. We had breakfast both mornings and this was excellent and plentiful.

This property is extremely dated and in a poor state of repair. The decor is from the 1970s/80s and it looks as if not much has been refurbished or replaced since then. Our room was a decent size and had nice views out over Oban bay, but there was evidence of damp and water damage and the furniture was quite sparse, so there was quite a small double bed in a large room. Bathroom was small and also very dated, though everything was clean. Parking and breakfast were subject to extra charges. This was clearly once quite a grand hotel as the building and public spaces are large and airy, but it is in desperate need of investment and renovation and was not worth the price charged

Plenty option's for breakfast. Staff in the building very helpful. The £20 a night they where going to charge me for the dog i refused to pay. The carpets in our room were years old. Not very clean and smelly. Bedding and towels clean but shower and toilet not cleaned for the four days we were there. Plaster coming of the walls and damp. We came home with bad chests and coughing. I could still smell the room on my coats. We would not stay here again. Also £6 a night parking charge not mentioned when booking.

Last minute booking so arrived late. Not told when making booking that you had to reserve a car parking space at a cost so had to move car down the road. Hotel due for a refurb and cannot come fast enough. The food was to a decent standard but customer service is poor. Had booked for the restaurant and got told that because we were late (having to move the car) would have to eat in the bar or else they would have to move us halfway through meal. It will be interesting to see it after a refurb but doubt very much that I would stay in Oban again but who knows.

Everything was great. We were down as 2 adults but 1 was a child ...but on booking I was unable to book adult and child. My only complaint was that the television didn't work! As you can imagine with a 9-year-old we were back in hotel fairly early eve. Other than that a perfect place to stay.

Staff helpful. Great size room. Old establishment. Comfortable, clean, firm bed. Great location on seafront. Appreciated the biscuits in room with coffee. Tea and hot chocolate. Didnt seem to be much hot water for shower at 9am. Lift entry could be cleaned, ie, door channels. We wish owners luck with costly refurbishment. A grand old hotel.

Do not stay here!!! Not worth the money. The hotel is very run down, torn seats, torn curtains, faulty electrical sockets, faulty light switch, worn carpet, faulty sink plug, broken shower screen. Room cleaning is done on request, but this wasn’t explained on arrival. There is a car parking fee, which wasn’t mentioned prior to booking. With parking, we paid £108 a night for 1-star accommodation.

Generally we were very pleased with our room in terms of space, bed comfort, cleanliness, corner aspect and above all else the fabulous view directly over the loch. Let down by not so small an issue as poor water pressure. Shower little more than a trickle. A bath would take an age to fill. Heated towel rail not working and very dirty windows. Misinformed that we could eat in the restaurant to discover the restaurant had been given over entirely to two large groups. Shuffled into a lounge with low seating for dinner. A number of other guests similarly misinformed and not happy. Set menu dinner was however nicely prepared, quality and very good value. Chris the barman worked extremely hard to take orders and wait on while attending to the bar. Fabulous views make the Grand Western at a premium location. Sadly not so ‘Grand’ these days but so could be once again with a bit of investment not least in its structure. Would then be the go to hotel in Oban without question. New management clearly doing their best given what appears to be the limitations at their disposal.

Absolute worst hotel I’ve ever been to, hands down. I checked in on Wednesday evening and checked out 5 minutes after. The rooms and hallways smelled like cat pee and the walls and floors were sagging with weird stains all over them. After talking to the front desk, I was told that they’ve had no complaints of smells and that there’s not other rooms available. There was no manager I could speak to or anything. This place almost ruined my honeymoon, but thankfully we were able to find somewhere much nicer to stay. Do not believe the pictures shown as they told me that they are not actually representative of any rooms available at the hotel. We were also told when booking that there was free parking on the property, which was a lie. Do not go here if you value your health or safety.

The hotel needs to be closed and repaired. It’s filled with mold and mildew, the floors feel unstable and damp, the room was humid, everything’s an upcharge, parking was a nightmare, and it was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I highly recommend staying literally anywhere else. I wish I could get my money back. The only think going for this hotel is its location, but it is otherwise genuinely terrible.

Overnight stay. Ok for the money

Although lift was reliable. I’m surprised it got me up and down to the 3rd floor. On arrival I was told that the car park was full and need to park next door in a public car park. However later in the evening there was still free spaces so parked in front of hotel. TV in the room was not tuned in. Room was ok but shower pressure was poor.
