Poor Nice room view As we did not book breakfast we went down told wait as had to seat people who booked 15 wait Then order full English. Ha ha a joke I sausage 1 egg no toast no beans 2 bacon Then had to ask for salt pepper as not on table Ask coffe bring no milk no duvet so try catch eye but 10 mins so cold Husband go bed I stay last drink We only given one key so ask one more informed hotel full so no more key they take me room open door Shower in room not flow away For 4 star very poor I would ask for refund really

Mini break in Chester

Well appointed hotel with very comfortable rooms. Location is great, just 6 mins walk from city centre and reasonably priced parking 5 mins across road (Little Roodee Car Pk). Staff are really friendly and the 5th floor dining room has great views over the race course topwards Welsh mountains. Catherine in the restuarant was particularly welcoming and helpful. Thank you.

Great location...other than that not great. Parking first come first served so we missed out on that, foyer floor dirty and ceiling obviously being repaired. One receptionist so in a queue to check in, failed to tell us and other guests to swipe room card to get lift to work. Room view great over racecourse, door handle to bathroom broken. Bed 2 singles zipped together , very uncomfortable and the pillows too soft. Shower didnt have good pressure. Returned to bar on 5th floor after night out, literally 3 other people in there, staff had no idea about some of the beer choices..zero atmosphere. Breakfast basic, one waitress speaking to everyone like children..whilst regularly serving the wrong table/ food. Full english greasy and not hot- we couldnt wait to leave! Love Chester but definitely wont be staying at Abode

The ABode is in a central location in Chester which makes it very convenient for walking to plenty of restaurants and shops. The river Dee, park and Roman Amphitheater is also within easy walking distance. Not all rooms have a bath and a shower, therefore you will need to specify your preference when booking or checking in. The room was a nice size and the bed was really comfortable. There is underground secure parking at an additional cost of £20 per night, however spaces are limited and it is not possible to reserve a parking space. Additional car park is available a short distance away.

Hotel staff excellent and can’t do enough for you. Only negative. The rooms are tired had a loose floorboard in our room which pinched your foot mirror cracked. I would say the room needs a refurbishment. One frustrating thing was they didn’t tell us to keep our room key so when we went to go to get our car laid in with bags, we couldn’t use the lift had to walk down four flights of stairs. There was also items missing from the room and regarding the side of the room there should be a fridge.

Rooms very spacious. Very nice array of teas and coffees. Was a bit dark in the room, and hard to work out how to get any lights on - have to go round and individually turn lamps on and there was no hall light near the door so hard to see how to control the heating - not a major issue but a bit odd for a nice hotel. Also could do with USB ports for charging. Parking is very limited, this should be made clearer on the advert - they emailed about it after but you can't cancel then. It's also extortionately priced, though at least secure. I'd advise parking across in the little roodee car park as it's cheaper and really close.

Pros & Cons to stay

Overall an OK stay but ages things could be better. Arrived around 7pm on Friday evening for a 2 night stay. Checked in but only given 1 room key and not asked if I wanted 2. Asked what time I would like breakfast as I had to book a time. Personally I would rather decide in the morning instead of running to a schedule but no real problem. Allocated room 319 a Desirable Room overlooking the inner courtyard. Room was a good size, had a bath with shower over. There are 2 issues with the bathroom - the door!! It’s a frosted glass door that doesn’t close without leaving a gap all the way round (it’s not broke, it’s made like that), you can hear every bodily function from the bedroom!! 2nd is the toiletries, whoever designed the bathroom did not give any thought to how to use the toiletries while in the bath. They are fixed onto the wall, right at the far end of the bath high up. You need to stand up every time you want to access them. Not good. The other issue is the actual breakfast. It’s served on the 5th floor and it is all table service. Fine if you like that, but I would have liked to have been able to self serve fruit, yoghurts & cereals. There are none. You basically have tea / coffee, toast & croissants and then order from a menu. I had a full English & what I had was very nice, I’m not someone that eats loads at breakfast so it was fine for me but if you’re expecting a full plate then you’ll be disappointed. Cooked food fine but would be good to have continental also
