Not top of the list to return too

The overall quality of the rooms are tired, and the bathrooms not the cleanest, or most modern. The internet drops out every 5 minutes. However the staff are friendly and the restaurant is good.

It’s an old building and does need some upkeep. However, the room was arranged neatly, tidy, and comfortable.

Reasonable price and well located. Room was very tired and the carpet on the stairs to the accommodation had a lot of duct tape covering the gaps. Breakfast is fine.

Very nice looking building, is looking a bit tired inside in some areas, room was ok but does require some maintenance (bathroom door didn’t work properly, shower leaking and running under floor tiles which squeezed out every time you walked on them ) Bed very comfortable Would definitely stay again

Great hotel and great value for money. Set in the heart of Banbury we were given a newly refurbished room overlooking the gardens. Good size room, bed and bathroom. Very clean. Do shop around for bookings as there are lots of different prices on different sites. In our case Expedia gave the best rate.

I stayed here a few years ago, when it was a hotel full of character and history and original features. Now nearly all of those are gone, and the hotel is sterile, featureless and cheap looking. The bed was comfy and the shower was new, but there were no toiletries, and not even an armchair in the room, even though there was plenty of space for one. It just feels so sad that such a gorgeous exterior is betrayed by such tragic internal decoration.

Stay clear until upgraded bedrooms

This hotel is of two halves. The front looks lovely but through the arch to the car park looks like 1970s office block. Reception was lovely but our room was awful. Window did not shut properly. Mould in bathroom. Gap around toilet cistern. Tap did not work. Lock on door did not work. Marks on carpet. Cobwebs. Stair carpet ripped with silver tape holding it together. There are works going on & bedrooms being upgraded so could not understand why we was put in such an awful room when the hotel was not fully booked. Very tired hotel

Could do better

This is a really good looking hotel in a great location but it all felt tired. Stair carpets need replacing, bedroom windows didn’t open, poor shower, drainage needed sorting. On the plus side, the bedroom was a good size, dinner and breakfast were good, plenty of parking and a characterful building. Please don’t let it run down, invest in more maintenance.

Promising then so disappointing

Very disappointing, booked a Classic room for a one night stay. The good things: staff friendly and polite, breakfast very good, plenty of choice from fresh fruit to full cooked. Now the bad: on check in we were offered an upgrade (charged) advising that as we had booked a classic room these had not been refurbished yet (not mentioned when booking). We declined as seasoned travellers we appreciate things do need updating but this was only a one night stay. However these room are so bad they really should not be booking them out until they have been done. The bedroom itself wasnt too bad, was a bit battered decor wise but clean, but the bathroom was appaling, broken tiles, bath panel didn’t fit, sealant pealing away and mouldy grout (not sure the cleaner could have dont anything about it). The gaffa tape on the stairs carpet is probably a trip hazzard. After a full day travelling from France we were just too tired to do anything.
