My Stay at the Grand Old Lady of Baker City

I love staying at these grand old "ladies" of travel accommodations. Geiser is one of the best. The food was excellent and the service outstanding. The reception could have been more helpful but it was ok.

Cute… great location and would stay again.

I was in a handicap room. It was a sweet hotel. Only issue could not get tv to work (even with the directions… yes directions) also the ventilation fan was scraping metal off and on all Night the final night.

Even with a no refund policy, rather than stay the second night, we choose to leave. The staff was rude, as if we were a big inconvenience for staying there. Everything felt cheap, for example the hair dryer could barely blow any air. There were tea bags, but no cups or even plastic glasses. The floor was dirty. We ordered room service and after 2 hours it still hadn't come. The room service actually never came and when we inquired at the desk we were told they'd talk to the kitchen staff and that was the last we heard about it. We visit Baker 2 or 3 times a year and will definitely never be staying at the Geiser Grand again. We will also be telling everyone we know about this.

Fun and historic. Worth a single try to say we did. The first room I had gave difficulty with the bath plug. They offered (we paid for) an "upgrade" in which we went from a king bed to a queen (the room was larger). Which was platformed and too high for my short stature to get in and out of easily. In addition it must have been the location of some sort of air engine because it was LOUD. My sleep was fitful and disturbed due to the pitch of sounds.

Hotel and History in One

This hotel is an absolute dream, it was like being transported back in time. The architecture and history of this place was captivating. My husband and I came here for our anniversary and we will definitely be coming back. The best part was the friendly staff, we knew them all by name and they knew us by the time we left. Sip on a delightful cocktail at the historical bar with Brittany, be served a lovely dinner under the stained glass ceiling by Mark, and make sure to do the tour of the hotel with Earl. Such a great place to just slow down and take in the moment. And Baker City has great stores and restaurants.

Overall, a great to stay and also dine. My room, 304, was quite noisy however. The air handler must be located over it. It roared much of the night.

The staff are friendly, helpful and hard working. This historic hotel is a jewel. Circa 1889, The Geiser grand Hotel has stunning mill work, wainscoting, pedestal sinks, and a gorgeous stained glass light well over the dinning room. If you are traveling on Interstate 84, don't miss this historic bonanza.

Eclectic and clean, worth the stay

The building itself is extremely old however you can tell the workers try their very best to keep every inch clean and dust free. It’s an eclectic hotel setting so don’t expect a Hilton look or anything built in the past 50 years. The beds were amazing and comfortable, linens were high quality and again, very clean and sanitized (thank you so much). We even had an air filter in our room that they installed as an add on and it ran quietly and effectively. The only crux I have is the toiletries, lack thereof. We were only given a very small bottle of shampoo, 2 bars of soap and a very small bottle of body lotion, for 2 guests. Not that I expect a lot but for it being called “grand” they should at least have in the bathrooms - shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and the soap bars, as well as enough for 2 people not to feel as if they have to ration supplies between themselves. Staff are super friendly and well knowledged in their tasks, very genuine when speaking to guests and anticipated needs as well. If I come through Baker City I would stay there again and will recommend them to friends.
