We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Matthiol. The rooms were well appointed, the grounds were beautiful and the service was excellent. We enjoyed using the spa area after a long hike. We also had a great meal at the restaurant on site. The lamb was excellent. Our biggest complaint was that the bed was harder than we’d like. It’s also outside of town, which we actually liked, but it may not be ideal for everyone. There is a hotel shuttle that will pick you up and drop you off at the train station, and a city bus drops you off a couple blocks from the hotel.

If your looking for a fantastic, modern hotel away from the crowds this is the place. The staff is super friendly, and you can get free shuttle service from the train station. Check in is easy and you will be offered a wonderful cocktail upon arrival. The rooms are spacious and modern. The bathrooms have a built in sauna and the shower is amazing! You are only a short walk to the gondola that can take you up to the top to an amazing Ice Palace and highest point by gondola in Europe. The restaurant is also great and free breakfast was more than you could want!!

My wife and I spent the weekend here while I had business meetings in Switzerland. We found it via Expedia and were grateful we did. The hotel is a little away from the main shopping area which worked great for us because we love to walk. There are so many things that we loved including the breakfast, the room, being picked up and dropped off at the train station, the afternoon tea or the delicious food at Filet et Fils. Having said that, what we liked the most was their service Everyone was nice and helpful. They have a young man named Silvan that is always willing to help and always has a broad smile on his face. I also liked how they have the ski room and the partnership with Julen Sports who dropped and picked up our skis. I highly recommend this place.

We feel so fortunate to have stumbled upon Hotel Matthiol for our trip to Zermatt. Our experience blew us away and exceeded any expectation we may have had. Matthiol is just as memorizing as the scenery surrounding it. The staff is phenomenal. From the taxi at the train station, to the complimentary (delicious!) drink upon our arrival, we were blown away by the attention to detail and top notch service provided. Everyone that works there is so kind and accommodating. The hotel itself is so beautiful - both high end and cozy at the same time. The complimentary breakfast is not only the best hotel breakfast we have had, but the best breakfast we have had period. We looked forward to it every day! They also have a complimentary tea time each day that we really enjoyed as well! There are igloo tents outside where they have cheese fondue dinners which are SO MUCH FUN! We felt like we were on The Bachelor dining there, and thoroughly enjoyed the traditional swiss cuisine. The room itself was awesome - especially the tub! And the views from the room. It is so beautiful it doesn't even seem real. We really enjoyed leaving the hotel to walk from town, and also really appreciated the easy ski access and assistance provided with obtaining ski rentals. We could go on and on as we enjoyed it so much that we were so sad to leave our home away from home. Highly recommend booking this place on your visit to Zermatt!

Such an amazing boutique hotel! The service was excellent, staff really friendly and the hotel had beautiful decor with all little details. Loved the spa department with outdoor jacuzzi and our room with sauna and large bathtub, amazing! Also you must have a fondu dinner in the romantic igloos in front of the hotel. Our stay was so relaxing and dreamy, definitely coming back!

We spend 2 nights there and the room are really nice, especially the ones with matterhorn view. The breakfast is really tasty. We love the spa as well as the decoration of the hotel ! Great and friendly staff ! All that you need for a relaxing time !

The staff at this boutique hotel made you feel right at home. As most cars are not allowed in Zermatt, we were picked up at the train station by a member of the hotel’s staff in an electric vehicle (side note—the public garage at tasch feels very safe and clean and worked well for us—there is ample space to park). Upon arrival we were checked in and escorted to our room. The hostess noted that we should stay very hydrated which helps those unaccustomed to high altitudes avoid insomnia (my husband found this very useful). While our room did not face the Matterhorn, we had a lovely balcony and there were astounding views of the famous peak from just outside the hotel. The food at the hotel’s restaurant- filet et fils—was EXCELLENT and again the service felt very personal with one server for the entire restaurant (with four tables of diners present, we never felt neglected). It was a short walk to downtown Zermatt and even more importantly, the tram to the top of the mountain and the glacier (highly recommended). We stayed at several lovely locations in Switzerland, but maybe because of the lack of automobile traffic, the sheep and goats one would see in the streets of Zermatt and the small size and homey feeling of the hotel, our experience in Zermatt at the Matthiol felt the most like being at an excellent mountain retreat away from it all.

It was a perfect two days in Zermatt . The hotels shuttle was waiting upon our arrival at the train station in Zermatt ! They emailed me a week before I arrived to give me heads up if I needed to make dinner reservations anywhere and also to offer their free pickup from train station . Upon entering hotel they offer you a welcome drink ( alcoholic or not ) which was refreshing and delicious . We were tired from the long train ride ( Glacier Express) and had made reservations for dinner in their restaurant for dinner ahead of time . The service was wonderful even though the server Vivienne made a mistake and ordered something we specifically said we don’t eat , ( Venison ) they quickly prepared the rib eye which is what I ordered and it was cooked to perfection. As well as the rack of lamb my friend had . I have to say though that Vivienne was very apologetic for her mistake . They treated us to desert to make up for it which really wasn’t too much of a big deal . The wine and good were amazing . My pictures don’t do it justice . Special mention has to go to Nicholas who entertained us with his warm personality at the bar the second night when we had to repeat two of those delicious welcome drinks as well as at their wonderful breakfast buffet . Laura , the hotel manager knows what she’s doing. Everything about the room was perfect and clean as can be . Sarah , the owner is hands on and runs an amazing place . Next time I have to stay longer !!! I wish them many years of success , it’s such a pleasure to stay at a place like Hotel Matthiol ! The only regret was that We had to leave ! :(

we came in winter, and the hotel had a beautiful backdrop of the Matterhorn and the surrounding snow-covered mountains. interior of the place was clean and modern yet cosy, something we were impressed with given that a great percentage of the hotel guests are on ski holidays, and the hotel has managed to maintain the floor clean amidst the muddy trails back to the hotel. there was a lovely welcome drink when we arrived, tailored to be alcoholic/non-alc depending on your preference. buffet breakfast is provided, with a huge spread to boast. staff are friendly and provide ready information regarding the surrounding attractions, hikes, or anything which you need help with. we opted to skip the ski visits and instead explored the town, took the train out from the town to nearby cantons to explore the hiking trails, as well as took the cable cars up to see the Matterhorn up close. all in all, lovely hotel, and we had a great stay here; we even tried their steam rooms after each trip out to warm up. had dinner in the hotel twice, was a little pricey but food was great; for more affordable options there are many choices out in the town, about a 30min slow walk out amidst the -10degC weather. would recommend this establishment!

We had such an amazing stay at Matthiol hotel - the staff were so welcoming and helpful, they made it a complete joy. They took such good care of us and made our stay extra special with daily sweet treats! Greatly appreciated after a long day on the slopes. The hotel should be very proud of the service it provides! Thank you for such a wonderful stay in beautiful Zermatt. I would hundred percent recommend staying here.
