Excellent hotel with old charm.Located close to the bay and easily accessible fro Yokohama Terminal.Nice landspace and located next to the bay.Excellent and hospitable staff. The room view is great overseeing the bay area.Good value for money
A great stay - the hotel staff was very attentive and room was perfect. We were in a room with a view (11th floor) of the city and bay and watched our ship come in at 6:00 am. The hotel was conveniently located and we got a bus from the airport – a 20 minute ride that stopped right in front of the hotel (Yamashita Park stop). Chinatown five minutes away and we walked (10 to 15 minutes) from the hotel to the cruise terminal with lots of beautiful flowers along the way as we walked along the bay.
Stayed one night. It is not a new hotel but room was clean and comfortable with a nice corner room with view of the park and the harbor. Service was good and overall a good experience. Bar has good ambience. Breakfast buffet was good. Location is great. Service was good
What a wonderful hotel made even more wonderful because of the kind, helpful and respectful staff. The location is great as it has beautiful views of Yokohama Harbor and overlooking Yamashita Park from higher floor. It is also located less than 5 mins from Yokohama China Town (largest in Japan) and other places such as Marine Tower (which has an Observatory Deck). It is also walking distance from other landmarks such as Cosmo World, Red Brick Warehouse, Cup Noodle Museum, Pacifico Yokohama etc. The rooms are quite lovely with great views (if you are lucky, you get a room with views of the Cosmo Clock which is magnificent at night). Be sure to take a walk through the beautiful gardens of Yamashita Park. The hotel restaurant serves buffet breakfast and can cater to special dietary preference upon request. My stay was a really good one in terms of hotel/ assistance provided by hotel staff especially Mr. Seeto. They have a business center where you can have coffee/tea and photocopy services/PC etc. and even though they had closing hours, the staff were extremely helpful in assisting with opening the business lounge out of opening hours. Very handy to public transportation, Chinatown, grocery store and passenger cruise terminal. Nice view of the harbor. Concierge was very helpful in pointing out the sights to visit, restaurants, etc. Room was comfortable. Booked room at a special spring promotion rate (maybe 25% savings) HN
The hotel offers first class service, spectacular views with a great location. Located across the street from the bay and 1 block from China Town this hotel has it all. I extensively used the subway located 1/2 block from the hotel. Gets you just about to any location, inexpensive, very fast SAFE travel. The hotel has 3 restaurants, all offer excellent food both western and traditional local cuisine. Customer service is outstanding. When making an outside dinner reservation, the concierge went out of her way to make sure there was an English speaking server who accommodated us at dinner. Although tipping is generally not accepted in Japan, I was able to slip a few dollars (yen) discretely into a few deserving hands. BTW: Take time to sit at the hotel bar. It's magic in the making.
We arrived late and our luggage had been lost. The hotel had upgraded us to the Executive Level which was a pleasant surprise. Our room had everything from a hairbrush to shaving supplies. We had a lovely tea service and mini bar frig. Best of all, the young lady who took us to our room at nearly 2100 that evening showed us the button to push to open the drapery, and WOW. We were in a corner room with one window looking out onto the harbor and the lovely gardens along the harbor. The other window gave us a birds eve view of the Marine Tower. We were a short 3 block walk to China Town and some very enjoyable meals. Best of all, we watched our ship arrive a few days later and waved good by to the Hotel New Grand as we sailed away. This is a PERFECT hotel for cruise ship passengers who want to arrive a few days early, or stay on after a cruise. The staff was so helpful and welcoming. Smiles everywhere.
I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. The rooms are quite large and beds very comfortable. It is 1min walk from the subway station and China town. It is a 4 star hotel with 7 star service. The breakfast is not up to international standards and the same dishes are repeated every day. No dish for vegitarians.
The hotel was withing walking distance of the cruise terminal with a couple of large suitcases and carry on bags. We arrived very early but the concierge kindly stored our cases so we could go out sightseeing. Our check in was very simple as we had booked through trip adviser. The foyer area was quite grand and the rooms were large, clean and comfortable. We only stayed one night but could easily has stayed longer. The staff were excellent and extremely helpful. We had a very late flight so after checkout we were able to again store our cases and returned later in the day to collect them. The concierge then organised our departure transport. Would recommend and hope to stay again sometime
We ended our cruise from Singapore to Japan at Yokohama and selected the Hotel New Grand because of its close proximity to the port. The majority of the other passengers lined up for taxis to go into Tokyo but we chose to walk to the hotel. It was a simple walk straight ahead to the first traffic light and turn left and took us about 20 minutes to reach. We arrived around 10am and were immediately checked in but had to wait until 2pm to access the room which is understandable. After the check-In we approached the concierge to ask for directions to local shopping and restaurants and was pleasantly surprised but her excellent level of spoken English. Her name was Yoko Ono and no she wasn't married to John Lennon. She provided us with a map and described in detail how to walk to Motomachi for some shopping for my wife. She then directed us to a coffee shop/restaurant within the hotel where we enjoyed a fresh cup of coffee prior to venturing further afield. The hotel clerk approached us ahead of the 2pm schedule and told us that the room was ready. We were given a terrific room on the 8th floor that overlooked the entire Yokohama Bay. The bed was a super king and has to be the largest I've ever seen in Japan. The TV had cable channels that allowed us to watch in English with a select button on the remote control. The bathroom had a tub and twin shower heads selectable via a control on the wall. The usual electronic bidet for Japan was also provided. Outside in the hallway we had a very generous sized closet to hang our clothes. After settling in, we decided to take a walk and after turning left outside the hotel we could see the entrance to Chinatown opposite the main street. It was filled with Chinese restaurants and interspersed with some shops which provided us with numerous choices of where to eat etc., but in the end we decided to walk a little further to Motomatchi for the fashion shops that interested my wife of course. By the time we reached there it was time for a bite but was surprised that most of the restaurants do not accept credit cards. I found this to be very odd for such an advanced economy, so be warned that you will need to have some Japanese Yen in your wallet. We ended up eating at the same restaurant in the hotel where we had coffee earlier and of course it wasn't cheap. General McArthur stayed at the older wing of this hotel after the 2nd World War when he was there to accept the Japanese surrender and to negotiate the future of this nation. We paid approx. USD155 for the room and consider it to be money well spent. This hotel offers great comfort and convenience. We booked a taxi to pick us up and take us to the Yokohama City Airport Terminal (Y-CAT) early the next morning to take a bus to Narita Airport for our flight home. The journey took about 15 minutes and cost 2,300 yen. The ticket counter was manned by English speaking staff which made me feel comfortable. They explained that a seat on the bus would cost me 2,000 yen if I paid in cash or 3,600 yen if I paid by card. I had to pay by card. The trip to Narita Airport took us 80 minutes but this was very early in the morning with next to no traffic. Allow a longer period when travelling later in the day. Overall, we enjoyed our short stay at the Hotel New Grand and would highly recommend it to other travellers.
