What a wonderful gracious hotel in the most supurb location. Our enormous room looked onto the magnificent public gardens . The staff could not do enough for us to make our stay enjoyable and really was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Our only regret is that our stay was far to brief and next time we will stay a lot longer.
My stay in Yokohama at the Hotel New Grand was fantastic! Had the pleasure of my brother joining me on this one and we have only good things to say about the country, the people, the hotel. Talking about the hotel, the employees go above and beyond to make sure you’re enjoying yourself. I highly recommend this place if you’re staying in Yokohama. Amazing location, specially for me, that raced a triathlon across the street. Even if I wasn’t racing, that view from our room was so great, I could stay there all day reading and enjoying a cuppa coffee!
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights after leaving our cruise ship in Yokohama. We had a lovely room on the 13th floor in the tower building at the front overlooking the bay. What a view!. The room was spacious and very well appointed and very clean. The only downside was that the bed was a little firm for our liking. The staff were exceedingly polite and very patient with us given the language difficulties. They went out of their way to oblige our every need like tourist info, public transport info, and arranged a taxi to take us to our next hotel in Tokyo. They have a very nice cocktail bar on the ground floor. The hostess fussed over us as we were guests of the hotel. Very comfortable place for an evening drink. We highly recommend this hotel both for its location and great staff.
Amazing two direction view from my spacious room in the tower. A beautiful and historic hotel with a wonderful atmosphere. Perfect location to China Town, Minato Mirai and connection airport. Lovely breakfast and breakfast area. Service was outstanding. Thank you especially to the young woman who RAN with my heavy bag, which she would not allow me to carry, to help me catch the bus to the airport. All staff spoke good English and were very kind. My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer.
From the door greeting and whisking away of luggage to our room, this hotel really does stand out. Excellent service everywhere we went, clean room with good amenities and wi-fi. Good nights sleep. We did stay on tower upper floors which gave great views and access to the club lounge 10am to 6pm for coffee/tea only, not like a regular club room strangely. We didn't use restaurants (theres's a super Eggs'N'Things next door for breakfast), but did use the bar named Seaguardian II which is amazing and steeped in history. Great hotel and happy to use again, just remember it's a little way from Yokohama CBD, but great for Cruise terminal and Chinatown.
This is the hotel Douglas MacArthur stayed before September 2, 1945 and wrote his famous speech. My husband and I stayed at its MacArthur suite with elaborate furnishings including the writing desk MacArthur used. It has been improved to be the finest accommodation in town, with the jacuzzi bath tub and all. Very pleasant.
This Historic Hotel is a truly joyous experience. The staff are simply superb. The rooms are large, bright and airy with amazing views. We were afforded every courtesy and luxury. The bars and lounge areas are delightful. The Normandie Restaurant provides a really good breakfast buffet. After 14 nights in sheer hell in an Apa Hotel in Tokyo we thought we had died and gone to heaven. Sadly we were here only for one night. Strongly recommended to anyone hoping for International standards in a hotel in Japan.
We always stay here thanks to a great tip from one our Japanese friends. Great service you will not be disappointed. This time both us and the couple we’re traveling with got upgraded to the suites on the 17th floor. That was awesome. After flying all day it felt great to soak in the tub. The staff is always so friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend Hotel New Grand to a friend and anybody else who is looking for an excellent place to stay in Yokohama. Another plus is that it is so close to the cruise terminal. Close enough to walk if you want.
We stayed here two nights and hated to leave. Everything was perfect. Our room was a spectacular premier suite, which looked out over the bay. The service, from the front desk to the bellhops to the maid service were all excellent. Chinatown is a about a block away and the local city bus, which takes you to the Tower for shopping, stops right in front of the hotel. English is spoken very well here. The hotel has an interesting history of famous personages who stayed here over the years. Would definitely stay here again.
We had a wonderful experience at the Hotel New Grand in Yokohama, travelling with our family of four. After landing at Haneda Airport, it was only about 15 minutes by car to Hotel New Grand, which was great because our flight from the USA was exhausting. Check in was easy with the English-speaking attendants at the front desk. The bellman showed us to our rooms, doing a great job explaining everything. Travelling with our two teen sons, two King rooms worked very well. The staff was able to arrange rooms (almost) next to each other, which allowed easy access. The beds were firm and very comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was absolutely amazing, which was a great relief both after the long flight and after two long days of sightseeing in Tokyo. We used this Hotel as a base for visiting friends in Yokohama and for a couple days in Tokyo. Access to Tokyo was easy by train (google maps provides directions with all the train/subway connections). The end of the Minatomirai-Line Train is only a block from the Hotel -- that was very helpful because you get on before the train is crowded! But, I highly recommend that you visit Yokohama. As others have said, Hotel New Grand is about two blocks from the amazing Chinatown, with its pedestrian-only street and awesome food. Yokohama's baseball stadium is also within walking distance or an easy cab ride. We spent an afternoon watching the Yokohama Bay Stars, which was tons of fun. The mix of the familiar rules of baseball with the Japanese fans' cheering and chanting was really cool and in line with what we try to show our kids when we travel abroad. The park across the street from the Hotel and the view of the bay are both fabulous. The best part of our experience at hotel new grand was the gracious and accommodating staff. It would not be a family vacation, if something did not go wrong. This time my younger son became ill. So, he and I had to extend our stay at Hotel New Grand by one night, while my wife and older son went on to Kyoto. The concierge and front desk staff were very helpful and accommodating. Although the hotel was booked solid in the morning, they understood our situation and let us know an hour later that we could keep one of our rooms. Their kindness was a great help.
